Hotel Description
You know, when I first stumbled upon Ecco Suites Apartments tucked away on Ramo primo dei greci in Venice’s Castello neighborhood, I was honestly a bit skeptical—Venice can be such a maze of overhyped spots, right? But stepping off the vaporetto at San Zaccaria (which is literally a five-minute walk away, dodging those narrow calli that twist like secrets), I felt this immediate sense of calm. The building itself is one of those understated historic gems, with weathered stone facades that blend right into the neighborhood—none of that flashy tourist trap vibe. Check-in was a breeze; the staff, these friendly locals who actually live nearby, handed over the keys with a quick chat about the best time to hit the nearby bacari for cicchetti (that’s those little Venetian tapas, if you’re new to it). My suite—well, it’s more like a proper apartment—had this cozy living area with exposed beams overhead, and the kitchenette was stocked just enough for whipping up espresso from beans I grabbed at the market on Via Garibaldi, which is a stone’s throw away. Oh, and the beds? Plush, with linens that smell faintly of lavender—honestly, after a day of pounding pavements, sinking into that was pure bliss. But fair warning, there’s no elevator, so if you’re hauling heavy luggage up those creaky wooden stairs, pack light or ask for help; I learned that the hard way.
What really sets this place apart, I think, is how it feels like you’re actually living in Venice, not just visiting. Castello’s got that authentic edge—less crowded than San Marco, with locals chatting in the campos and the occasional whiff of salty canal water mixing with fresh bread from the bakery on Salizada dei Greci (grab a pastry there at dawn; it’s worth the early wake-up). My room overlooked a quiet courtyard, so nights were peaceful, broken only by distant church bells from San Giorgio dei Greci—sort of magical, you know? During high season, like Carnevale, the area buzzes a tad more, but it’s nothing like the chaos around the Rialto; you can actually hear yourself think. The WiFi’s solid for streaming or working remotely—I mean, I got some emails done while sipping wine on the balcony—but it did glitch once during a rainstorm, which is par for the course in this humid city. And parking? Forget it; Venice is car-free, but they can point you to spots in Mestre if you’re driving in. Little touches like the fresh fruit basket on arrival and the insider tips on avoiding the touristy gondola rides (head to the Arsenale instead for a real boat tour) made it feel personal, almost like staying with a savvy friend.
All in all, if you’re after a spot that’s got that 4-star polish without the pretension—scoring a legit 9.3 rating for good reason—Ecco Suites is a winner, especially for couples or small families wanting space to spread out. It’s not perfect (those stairs, again), but it captures Venice’s soul in a way that leaves you lingering over breakfast, plotting your next hidden alley adventure. Trust me, you’ll leave feeling like you’ve uncovered a piece of the city most folks miss.

We stayed at the Ecco Apartments for 1 week in June 2023. Ivan our concierge met us and was extremely helpful during our stay, suggesting which ferry to catch and where to eat and drink.
The apartment was modern, with new kitchen equipment that looked unused.
I do enjoy a coffee in the morning and whilst a cafetière would have been ideal, Ivan went out and purchased a coffee maker which was fantastic.
The bathroom was spotless, as was the rest of the apartment
The location is literally a couple of minutes from the main front of San Zaccaria, but far enough away to be a quiet peaceful area.
There were a number of bars, shops and restaurants near the apartment
On arrival, we were added to the Concierge Whatsapp group and Ivan was on-hand for any questions or help which was reassuring in a busy city
We used the apartment as a base and had day trips out to Lake Garda and Verona with the rail infrastructure being far superior to anything in the UK and we would highly recommend using the train to explore other parts of Italy.
We would highly recommend the Ecco apartments. Thanks for a great stay.

Location is incredibly convenient, just a 5 minute walk away from a major port. (San Marco Zaccaria). Hosts were extremely nice with checkin, giving a nice gesture of leaving a small wine and biscuits as a gift when there was a room mixup with another guest, not to mention a cash refund for the room downgrade. The bed and bathroom were immaculately clean, and modern. (Aka all of the things that you saw)
What could be improved: While the bed and bathroom were clean, a lot of the other utilities were not. In our room, we found there was a moldy smell coming from the laundry machine, like it had never been cleaned before. as a result, we didn’t use it, for fear of getting bacteria everywhere. Also, one of the metal pieces in the water heater they provided fell out. Upon looking closer, we saw that the metal was actually rusting and in dire need of a replacement. Finally, the checkin process isn’t really that foolproof. Because the hosts leave ALL keys out for all guests checking in that day (self checkin), one of the guests ended up taking our nicer room on the 3rd floor. Instead, it would make more sense for there to be a staff to escort the guest to the correct room, or to create a mechanism where guests can only collect the room key for the room they’re assigned.Judy from United Kingdom – 9 February 2025 (10/10)
Perfect location. Quiet street in easy walk of main attractions. Very clean and comfortable. The owner can offer a service to stock your fridge with essentials. Excellent restaurant very close – Trattoria da Denis.

it was all so good, location, shower, bed and kitchen.
What could be improved: nothing really, it was above expectations.Olga from United States – 16 December 2024 (10/10)
Comfortable modern apartment in a great location in Venice. Quiet, yet an easy 5-10 minute walk to St.Mark’s Square. The entrance is in the alley side of the building, and around the front are small shops and restaurants. The kitchen was well stocked, and we made several meals with fresh pasta made by the 3rd-generation pasta maker on that street.
The concierge was very responsive and able to answer questions that you might ask in a travel office, which Venice no longer has!
We stayed for 7 nights, and the concierge offered to exchange towels and bedding and clean the apartment in the middle of our stay, which was an unexpected bonus.
What could be improved: Nothing.
The apartment is on the 3rd floor (fourth for Americans), and no elevator, which didn’t bother us, but might be an issue for some.Graham from Australia – 3 December 2024 (10/10)
Awesome location; were walked everywhere. Apartment was fantastic; I loved cooking in the kitchen with a spritz and listening to my favourite music on Spotify with the window open! Washing machine a massive plus. Management team are great communicators and go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable and satisfied during your stay.

Will I come back? Definitely!!
What could be improved: Cons:
So it is not really a negative point but you need to know how to reach the place.
When I reached Venice, I walked to the property and it took 45 mins with 2 suitcases.
When I was going back, one of the staff members guided me so it was super easy via ferry from San Marco to the train terminal.Susan from Canada – 24 October 2024 (8/10)
Door code was provided upon arrival at the doorstep
What could be improved: Hosts were not very responsive via email but improved after we connected through WhatsApp.
3rd floor in Venice actually means 4th floor and there was no lift available so 4 flights of stairs with luggage was very challenging with my cane and bad knees. I had requested a ground floor unit due to my mobility issues but my request was ignored by the host and they were not present in person at arrival or anytime during our stay to assist carrying luggage up 4 flights.Jean-luc from Belgium – 16 October 2024 (9/10)
Very clean apartment with excellent location. Very smooth follow up by owners.
What could be improved: Inside less natural light than foto's suggestFrina from France – 3 October 2024 (10/10)
