Hotel Description

You know, I stumbled upon this place while wandering through San Polo last spring, right after the Easter crowds had thinned out a bit – honestly, that’s the sweet spot for Venice if you want to avoid the shoulder-to-shoulder tourist crush. The hotel’s tucked away on Rio Terà, which is this quirky little street that used to be a canal until they filled it in centuries ago; it’s got that classic Venetian vibe without feeling too hidden or sketchy. I remember arriving by vaporetto from Piazzale Roma – no cars in Venice, obviously, so you’re either walking or boating it – and it was a quick 10-minute stroll from the San Silvestro stop, dodging the occasional delivery cart loaded with fresh produce for the nearby Rialto Market. Check-in was a breeze; the staff were these warm locals who chatted about the best cicchetti spots (try the ones at Cantina Do Mori, just around the corner – it’s been there since the 1400s). My room overlooked a narrow rio, and the first thing that hit me was the gentle lapping of water against the stone walls – sort of soothing, though if you’re a light sleeper, the early-morning boat traffic might nudge you awake around dawn.

What really makes this sophisticated hideaway stand out, I mean, beyond the 4-star polish, is how it blends right into the neighborhood without trying too hard. The building’s got these exposed wooden beams and terracotta floors that feel authentically old-world, not some staged replica – and the beds? Plush, with linens that smell faintly of lavender, like someone’s grandmother ironed them fresh. I appreciated the little kitchenette in my suite; nothing fancy, but perfect for brewing espresso from beans I grabbed at the market and nibbling on prosciutto while watching the world (or at least the gondoliers) go by. Breakfast was included, served in a cozy courtyard – think fresh cornetti, yogurt, and cappuccinos strong enough to power you through a day of exploring. It’s not without its quirks, though; the Wi-Fi can be spotty in the thicker-walled rooms, and during high season, you might hear the buzz from Campo San Polo nearby, where kids play soccer till dusk. But that’s Venice for you – alive and unfiltered. Oh, and parking? Forget it; leave your car on the mainland and embrace the water taxi life.

All in all, if you’re looking to dive into the real Venice without the San Marco overload, this spot’s a gem with its 9.2 rating earned honestly. It’s close enough to the action – a 15-minute walk to the Rialto Bridge or a short boat ride to Dorsoduro’s galleries – but far enough that you can retreat to quiet evenings sipping spritz on your balcony. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in autumn when the fog rolls in and the whole place feels like a secret. Just pack light; those cobblestone alleys aren’t kind to wheeled suitcases. Beautiful apartment with lovely frescoe’d walls and decorations in a central location at San Polo. All the facilities were in good working condition. Walkable to good restaurants and key attractions. The property manager Michele was very welcoming and responsive. We were welcomed with a bottle of prosecco and a basket of snacks.

Space was excellent. Location was great, quiet out of the way but near everything we needed to be by!

    What could be improved: Nothing

What could be improved: The steps were a little steep and 27 was a few too many we were told first floor but really it is second floor.A very nice apartment in a very good area.

This is a glorious place, and it’s location is spectacular if you are keen to visit all quarters of Venice. Beware that during acqua alta you will be wading through the vestibule but the water entrance is stunning and added all the charm for us. We had a mini problem with hot water, however, Michele fixed this immediately. He is a superb property manager, extremely responsive and nothing was too much trouble. We could not recommend this place more highly.

What could be improved: There’s nothing we didn’t love about this property. Fortunate are those who get to stay here!

The location was perfect – a non-touristy neighborhood in a central location. We loved having the grocery store nearby and a great cafe & wine bar in a couple minute's walk. It was a 10-15 minute walk to just about everywhere we wanted to go and the water taxi was also easy to catch from the local stop.

The apartment itself was beautiful. The natural light and different canal views out of every window made it feel like a true Venetian experience. Having two bedrooms with separate bathrooms gave our family plenty of room to spread out.

Beautiful property in a nice area

What could be improved: We arrived late and the host was very unhelpful with providing support on how to get to the accommodation.

  • Ricardo from Portugal – 2 September 2024 (10/10)

    Maravilhoso!
Havia um canal à beira e na entrada do apartamento, com água do canal.
A decoração parecia uma obra de arte e havia muito espaço para a famila inteira.
    Michele, o gestor, foi impecável.

What could be improved: Havia um ar condicionado que não funcionava.

  • François from Switzerland – 1 February 2024 (10/10)

What could be improved: Rien tout était parfait
