Hotel Description

I remember stumbling upon Fornace Loft with Dependance R&R during a drizzly October trip to Venice – you know, that time of year when the crowds thin out a bit and the city feels more like it’s yours. I’d just hopped off the vaporetto at Ca’ d’Oro, lugging my bag through those winding calles in Cannaregio, which honestly feels like the real Venice, away from the San Marco chaos. Calle della Fornasa Vecia is tucked right in there, near the old Jewish Ghetto – think quiet brick alleys where locals chat over espresso and the air smells faintly of saltwater from the nearby canal. No cars to worry about, obviously, since it’s Venice, but watch your step on those uneven stones after rain; I nearly twisted an ankle rushing to check-in. The place itself? It’s this converted loft setup in what used to be some kind of old furnace building – “fornace” gives it away – with a separate dependence that’s perfect if you’re traveling with a small group or just want extra space. The host met me at the door with a warm “benvenuto” and a quick rundown of the Wi-Fi code, no fuss, though I did have to buzz twice because the intercom was a tad finicky.

Stepping inside, it hit me how cleverly they’ve blended that industrial-chic vibe with Venetian charm – exposed brick walls that feel textured and cool under your fingers, big windows letting in that soft lagoon light, and a kitchenette stocked with basics like fresh coffee pods and those little packets of grissini (you know, the skinny breadsticks that crunch just right). My room in the main loft had this lofted bed area – pun intended – with super comfy linens that smelled like they’ve been line-dried in the sun, and honestly, after a day pounding pavements, sinking into that was heaven. The dependence part is like a cozy annex, with its own bathroom and a tiny patio where you can sip wine and listen to the distant hum of boats on the canal; it’s not huge, but it feels intimate, sort of like crashing at a stylish friend’s place. Noise-wise, it’s pretty peaceful for Venice – no blaring tourists at night, though you might hear the occasional church bell from nearby Sant’Alvise tolling in the morning. One minor gripe: the shower pressure was a bit weak during peak hours, but nothing a quick “scusi” to the host couldn’t fix. And the air conditioning? A lifesaver in summer, I bet, though I was there in cooler weather and didn’t need it.

What really sold me on Fornace Loft is how it lets you live like a local without skimping on comfort – you’re a short walk from spots like the Strada Nova for affordable cicchetti bars (try the baccalà mantecato at that hole-in-the-wall near Campo dei Mori), or you can wander to the Fondamente Nove for a ferry to Murano. At 8.6 rating and four stars, it’s solid value, especially off-season when rates dip and the whole area quiets down. If you’re after that authentic Venice immersion – dodging laundry lines in the alleys, grabbing groceries from the corner market – without the tourist trap vibes, this is your spot. I’d go back in a heartbeat, maybe in spring when the wisteria blooms and everything smells even sweeter. Just pack light; those stairs to the loft aren’t kidding around.

Reviews

  • Exceptional – Chalani from Australia – 8 July 2025 (10/10)

Excellent apartment, beautiful, comfortable and clean! Wonderful staff

  • Superb – Kunal from India – 20 June 2025 (9/10)

Pretty newly built property with nice 3 bedroom apartment. Walkable distance from Venice centre

  • Excellent – Ronja from Finland – 5 July 2024 (10/10)

    A very lovely apartment.

  • In general the location of this property is perfect, 2 minutes walk to supermarket, 5-10 minutes to cafés and restaurant – Dorothy from Australia – 14 February 2024 (10/10)

The cleanliness, the interior design and most of all the location.

What could be improved: The second room was a separate room by itself and my daughter had to go outside in the cold to get to her room to sleep.

  • Beautiful modern appartment, great for a family or a group of friends – Florian from Taiwan – 16 September 2023 (10/10)

Very beautiful modern apartment with top notch appliances and a great view over a canal from the kitchen windows. A huge supermarket is right next door.

  • Great apartment without soundproof – Katharina from Austria – 16 September 2023 (8/10)

Stayed here the 2nd time, the equipment and cleanliness n this apartment is outstanding.

What could be improved: Unfortunately In the flat above the apartment live really uncomfortable people, they keep walking up and down the apartment, move furniture and you can hear every step above you, especially in the bedroom, from 6.am until 2.am… not the best option to get some sleep after an exhausting city trip day…

  • Modern and good service – Katia from United States – 31 August 2023 (8/10)

The main apartment is beautiful and very well decorated. The kitchen had coffee, sugar and some water which was extremely useful. The main bedroom is beautiful and comfortable. The other beds are sofa beds.

What could be improved: It is not in the center of Venecia where all the things are happening. You have to walk like 30 min from plaza di san Marco and 20 min from Santa Lucia station

  • Superb apartment – Nancy from United Kingdom – 4 July 2023 (9/10)

Beautiful modern apartment. Very clean and looks just as in pictures.

What could be improved: The location is about 20-25 mins walk from main square so if you don't like walking this is not the place for you. We as a family enjoy walking so it was good for us. Unable to contact the management company on a weekend which was a let down, otherwise would have been a perfect stay

  • Exceptional – Jodie from United Kingdom – 19 June 2023 (10/10)

stunning interior, so clean and peaceful location

What could be improved: it’s a 30 minute walk to St Marks Square, but the area or Canneragio is beautiful and a more quieter, chilled area of Venice. plenty of shops, restaurants and bars just a few minutes walk

  • Exceptional – Ryadinsky from Israel – 18 June 2023 (10/10)

Great and very modern loft. Very clean and beautiful. With top notch TV's, espresso machine, dish washer and even washing machine. We enjoyed our stay very much.

What could be improved: Nothing really. Had wonderful time. The location is in the Jewish getto a bit far from the center.
