I remember pulling up to the Fortuny Design Loft and Terrace on a vaporetto from the Zattere stop – you know, that long promenade across the Giudecca Canal where locals grab gelato and watch the sunset. It’s tucked away on Fondamenta San Biagio, right in the heart of Giudecca, which honestly feels like Venice’s best-kept secret if you’re tired of the San Marco crowds. No cars here, obviously – Venice being Venice – so I lugged my bag from the boat stop, just a short walk past those weathered brick warehouses that smell faintly of salt and old wood. The building itself is this converted loft space, all modern and artsy with nods to Mariano Fortuny, the designer guy who did those famous pleated fabrics and lamps. Check-in was a breeze; they sent me a code for the door ahead of time, which was clutch because I arrived late after a delayed train from Milan. Stepping inside, it hit me – high ceilings, exposed beams, and this massive terrace overlooking the lagoon. I mean, the views of San Giorgio Maggiore at dusk? Stunning, with the water lapping gently below and that briny sea air mixing with whatever herbs they had growing in pots out there.

What really sold me on the place was how it balances that sleek design vibe with actual comfort – it’s not one of those sterile spots that look great in photos but feel cold in person. The loft’s got this open-plan setup with a kitchenette stocked with basics (espresso machine included, thank goodness, because mornings without Italian coffee are a non-starter). The bed was plush, king-sized, and the bathroom had rain showers that actually worked without that weird low-pressure thing you get in some older Venetian buildings. I spent afternoons on the terrace, sipping prosecco from the nearby enoteca on Campo San Barnaba – well, it’s a bit of a boat ride away, but worth it for the cicchetti. Giudecca’s quieter side means less noise at night; you might hear a distant church bell or the hum of a water taxi, but it’s peaceful, especially off-season in fall when the tourists thin out. That said, it’s not perfect – the stairs up to the loft can be a haul if you’ve got heavy luggage, and the Wi-Fi dipped a couple times during a rainstorm, but hey, you’re in Venice, sort of forces you to unplug anyway. Mornings were my favorite, brewing coffee and watching fishing boats head out, the light filtering through those Fortuny-inspired textiles on the walls.

Look, if you’re after a spot that’s more authentic Venice than the packed Grand Canal hotels, this is it. Rated around 8.3 for good reason – it’s got that 4-star polish without the pretension, perfect for couples or solo travelers who want space to breathe. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in shoulder season when Giudecca feels like your own private island. Just pack light, time your vaporetto rides (they run every 10-15 minutes from Piazzale Roma), and prepare to fall in love with the slower pace over here.

  Quote location with view great on Venice
  Everything was so well accommodated, the kitchen with everything you need, the giant living room and terrace as well as the bedroom with very comfortable beds. 2 nice bedrooms ( 1 with jacuzzi), 3 toilets. Very nice furniture and paintings, all in perfect style with the modern building and the Venice style. Alvise is of great help for check in check out and all you need to visit Venice.

  Очень красивая и чистая квартира, особенно очень вежливый и заботливый владелец )
  Он нас встретил , подсказал как проехать к объекту , и на протяжение всего времени был на связи и скидывал ориентиры куда можно сходить покушать , где ближайшие супермаркет )
  Очень внимательные и доброжелательный )
  Так же как приятный бонус нам даже в холодильник поставили бутылочку белого вкусного Вина )
  Когда мой муж разбил коленку , нам принесли мини аптечку и антисептики , такой заботы я нигде не видела , действительно такое сложилось впечатление как будто старые хорошие друзья )
  Очень рекомендую всем тут проживание , и сама квартира сделана с душой , остались очень приятный впечатление ₽
