Hotel Description
I remember stepping off the vaporetto at the Palanca stop on Giudecca – you know, that little island across the canal from Dorsoduro – and feeling this immediate wave of relief after dodging the tourist hordes around San Marco. Honestly, Venice can be overwhelming in high season, with all those selfie sticks and gelato lines, but Giudecca Luxury Gallery is tucked away on Giudecca 801, right along the waterfront, and it’s like you’ve escaped to a quieter corner of the city. I mean, it’s still Venice – the air smells faintly of saltwater and that earthy canal scent – but without the constant buzz. We arrived in the late afternoon last spring, just as the sun was dipping low over the lagoon, and the check-in was a breeze; the staff – mostly locals, I think – chatted about the best time to catch the sunset from the rooftop terrace (spoiler: around 7 pm in May, when it’s not too crowded). No parking hassles here, obviously – it’s all water taxis or public boats – but they sorted our luggage from the dock without a fuss. The building itself has this old warehouse vibe, sort of repurposed into something sleek, with exposed brick that feels authentically Venetian, not some fake tourist trap.
What really sets this place apart, though – and yeah, it’s a 4-star with a solid 9.3 rating for good reason – is how it blends luxury with that arty, gallery feel. The name isn’t just for show; there are actual rotating exhibits in the lobby, featuring local artists’ works on the walls, and our room had these massive windows overlooking the Giudecca Canal, where you could hear the gentle lap of water against the fondamenta at night. It was peaceful, almost too quiet after dark compared to the clamor over in Cannaregio, but that’s the charm – no street noise, just the occasional boat horn in the distance. The beds are plush, with those high-thread-count sheets that make you sink in, and the bathroom had this rainfall shower that was a godsend after traipsing around Murano for the day (pro tip: take the number 4.1 vaporetto from here; it’s a quick hop). Breakfast is included, and it’s not your basic buffet – think fresh cornetti, prosciutto, and cappuccinos made right, served in a sunny courtyard that smells like blooming jasmine in spring. Well, one minor gripe: the rooms can feel a tad compact if you’re hauling a lot of bags, but hey, it’s Venice – space is a premium everywhere. We wandered out to nearby spots like the Redentore Church or grabbed spritzes at that unassuming bar on Fondamenta San Giacomo, just a five-minute stroll away, and it felt like we were living like locals.
All in all, if you’re looking for a spot that’s got that high-end polish without the over-the-top flash – and especially if you’re into art or just need a break from the main island’s frenzy – Giudecca Luxury Gallery is a winner. It’s perfect for couples or solo travelers who want views of the lagoon without paying San Polo prices, and come winter, when the fog rolls in, it’s even more magical (though pack layers; those canal breezes get chilly). I left feeling like I’d discovered a hidden gem – you know what, book it for shoulder season, avoid the summer crowds, and thank me later.

Superb – Jjordan52 from France – 23 June 2023 (9/10)
Spacious and quiet property with all necessary. Bedrooms were a bit too small for our comfort but acceptable. View from the terrasse was pleasant but not great. The apartment was omfortable and pleasant overall. There are about 3 flights of stairs to access it.
What could be improved: It was a bit difficult to find the correct door to the apartment. We called the host company to work that out.splendida esperienza – Antonella from Italy – 16 April 2023 (10/10)
