Hotel Description
You know, I stumbled upon Gradenigo Apartments 767 almost by accident last spring, right after hopping off the train at Santa Lucia station – it’s just a quick 10-minute walk across the Ponte degli Scalzi, dodging the usual throng of tourists with their rolling suitcases. Tucked away on Santa Croce at number 767, in that quieter corner of the sestiere where the canals feel more like hidden alleys than postcard scenes. Honestly, Venice can be overwhelming with all the crowds in San Marco, but Santa Croce has this lived-in vibe – think local bakeries on Rio Terà San Leonardo pumping out fresh cornetti smells in the morning, or the occasional whiff of canal water that’s not as pungent as you’d fear. I arrived a bit sweaty from the vaporetto ride (pro tip: if you’re coming from Marco Polo airport, grab the Alilaguna boat to Piazzale Roma and stroll from there; parking’s a nightmare anyway, since, well, it’s Venice – no cars allowed). Check-in was a breeze; the host met me at the door with a set of keys and a handwritten map of nearby spots – no fancy lobby, just a warm “benvenuto” and tips on avoiding the tourist traps.
What really won me over, though, was the apartment itself – it’s one of those converted old buildings with exposed wooden beams that creak just a little underfoot, adding to that authentic Venetian charm (or maybe it’s the settling foundations; either way, it’s endearing). My unit had a compact kitchenette stocked with basics – espresso maker, a few pots – perfect for whipping up a quick pasta after a day wandering to Rialto Market, which is only about a 15-minute amble away across the bridge. The bed was surprisingly comfy for a 3-star spot, with crisp linens that didn’t feel like they’d been through a thousand washes, and the bathroom had one of those rain showers that actually works without sputtering. Noise-wise, it’s pretty peaceful at night; you might hear a distant boat horn or neighbors chatting in dialect, but nothing like the bustle near the Grand Canal. I mean, it’s not luxurious – the Wi-Fi can be spotty during peak hours, and there’s no elevator, so pack light if stairs aren’t your thing – but that’s part of the appeal. It feels like borrowing a friend’s place, you know? Mornings were my favorite: sipping coffee on the tiny balcony overlooking the calle, watching locals hustle to work while the city wakes up slowly, especially in shoulder season when it’s not sweltering yet.
All in all, with that stellar 9.6 rating, it’s no wonder folks rave about it – it’s the kind of spot that makes you feel like you’ve unlocked a secret side of Venice, away from the overpriced gondola rides. If you’re traveling solo or with a partner and want to stretch your euros (rates are reasonable, especially off-peak), this is gold. Just remember to explore nearby like Campo Santa Margherita for aperitivo – it’s lively but not chaotic – or pop into the natural history museum if you’re into that sort of thing. I’d go back in a heartbeat; it turned what could’ve been a hectic trip into something genuinely relaxing.

The location is fantastic, 5mins across Grand Canal. The host was waiting for us at the door of apartment. He was really lovely, helped us with our luggage. He sent us instructions of nearby restaurants recommendation and groceries.. highly recommend. The apartment is so new and clean
What could be improved: There was 2 showers, you have to toggle the main switch between the heaters which is a minor inconvenience. Nothing difficultOksana from Ukraine – 28 March 2025 (9/10)
The location is perfect — just near the bus and train stations, yet the street is quiet and not crowded. The windows overlook the canals, which is a must-have experience when staying in Venice. The apartment is spacious and comfortable, with everything you might need.

The room is very good, comfortable, clean and tidy. It is very close to the train station and the balcony is the river. The landlord is very kind.
What could be improved: You need to discuss the check-in time with the landlord in advance. Although there are some twists and turns, the result is good.Jorge from Costa Rica – 1 September 2024 (10/10)
Everything es gorgeous!! New apartment, good place near the train station, wonderful host
Excellent place fully recommendedBan from Iraq – 27 August 2024 (10/10)
Everything in the property is beautiful in terms of space, furniture, cleanliness, passing boats, and its location opposite the train station, taxis, and markets. Its location is very convenient from our point of view. The ground floor apartment does not need stairs or an elevator at all. It is more beautiful than the pictures. Everything is clean, oil, salt, shampoo, conditioner, hair dryer, net, liquid salt to clean the dishes, as well as for one-time use, laundry detergent is available in order and elegance. I highly recommend staying in it, and our host, Cristiano, is very friendly.
What could be improved: The main power plug should be replaced with one that can handle more pressure because when using the washing machine or the stove, you need to turn off almost everything, one or two lights, to continue working.
