Hotel Description
I remember stepping off the vaporetto at Ca’ d’Oro stop – you know, that gorgeous Gothic palace right on the Grand Canal – and weaving through the narrow calles of Cannaregio to find Guizzo Apartment Venezia. It’s tucked away in this quieter part of Venice, away from the San Marco crowds, but honestly, that’s what makes it feel like you’re actually living in the city rather than just visiting. The address is right in the heart of Cannaregio, on one of those side streets off Strada Nova, where locals pop into bakeries for fresh cornetti in the morning and the air smells faintly of saltwater and espresso. I mean, Venice can be overwhelming with all the tourists, especially in high season like July when the canals are buzzing with gondolas, but this spot? It’s got that authentic neighborhood vibe – think old stone walls, the occasional clatter of a delivery boat unloading crates at dawn, and none of that constant selfie-stick chaos. Check-in was a breeze; the host met me with keys and a quick rundown in broken English (which was charming, actually), and there’s no real parking to worry about since, well, it’s Venice – you’re better off ditching the car at Piazzale Roma and hopping on the water bus anyway.
What really won me over was the apartment itself – it’s not some sterile hotel room, but a proper 4-star setup that feels like a cozy Venetian home, with high ceilings, exposed wooden beams that creak just a bit underfoot (in a good way, like they’re whispering stories from the 1700s), and these big windows letting in that soft, golden light off the canal. The place is spotless, with a full kitchen where I whipped up pasta from ingredients grabbed at the nearby Rialto Market – oh man, the smell of fresh tomatoes and basil filling the space was heaven after a day of wandering. There’s a comfy living area with a sofa that begs for lazy afternoons with a spritz, and the bedroom’s got this plush bed that made me sleep like a baby, even with the faint hum of church bells from Santa Maria dei Miracoli echoing in the distance. It’s rated a stellar 9.6 for a reason; everything’s modern without losing that old-world charm – think Wi-Fi that actually works (a miracle in these historic buildings) and a bathroom with heated floors, which was a lifesaver in the cooler evenings of early spring. One minor gripe? The stairs up to the apartment are steep and no elevator, so pack light if you’ve got mobility issues, but hey, that’s Venice for you – it builds character, or at least some calf muscles.
All in all, if you’re after a spot that lets you dip into the real rhythm of Venice – grabbing gelato from that little place on Fondamenta della Misericordia or strolling to the Jewish Ghetto for some history without the hordes – Guizzo is a gem. It’s not the cheapest, but for the value, with that high rating and the way it makes you feel like a local (sort of, anyway), I’d book it again in a heartbeat. Just time your visit for shoulder season, like April or October, when the streets are quieter and you can actually hear the water lapping against the walls at night. Trust me, it’ll make your trip unforgettable.

Great Location, clean and comfortable.
Wonderful host and wonderful property – Les from Australia – 25 September 2024 (10/10)
This was our second stay at the apartment in a short space of time. As we had before, we found the apartment to be clean and very comfortable. We slept well in the bed. The kitchen has all the facilities you need and is so large, bright and airy with opening windows with a delightful view over the varied and very old terracotta roofs of Venice.
The apartment is on its own (without neighbours) at the very top of the building (4th floor). However a lift takes you up to the third floor so you only ever need to walk up one flight of steps with luggage. Gianmarco took all our luggage up anyway. For us being on the top floor is always an advantage because you don’t hear any noises from people above. You also get lots more light.
The owner, Gianmarco, is such a delightful person. Truly welcoming and helpful. Check in and check out went so smoothly, as it did on the previous occasion. Thank you Gianmarco.
We recommend and rate the property highly. We would not hesitate to stay again.Fantastic stay in Venice – Les from Australia – 22 September 2024 (10/10)
There is a lot to like about this apartment. The owner is just delightful. Full of interesting information about the history of Venice. Helped with the luggage. A great communicator. Excellent English.
The apartment is more spacious and light than the photos indicate. The kitchen is delightful. Large with great windows which open out to the roofs of Venice and of course the canal. You feel right at home sitting at the kitchen table.
Location is great. Just far enough away from being hectic but close enough to feel part of the action. There are many bars and restaurants nearby, filled with locals and tourists.
Facilities all work perfectly well. Use S. Marcoula Vaporetto station if you want to go up and down the grand canal easily. It is under 10 mins walk.
Good bed in main bedroom (can comment on the kids beds).
We are actually returning to the apartment in 2 weeks for a second stay.
What could be improved: Like in all of Venice there are mosquitoes because of the canals. So best to close windows in Venice before sunset to keep mosquitoes out. There is mosquito spray in the apartment for the odd one that makes it in.Exceptional – Ronen from Israel – 29 July 2024 (10/10)
great location, specious
What could be improved: better keep windows shut at night because of the mosquitosSuperb – Pawelsoja from Poland – 18 June 2024 (9/10)
Large apartment in an old tenement house with an elevator. Spacious with beautiful views of the city. Perfect for a longer stay. The host was very helpful and talkative.
