Hotel Description
You know, when I first stumbled upon Hotel Ca’ dei Conti after weaving through those narrow calli in Castello, I was honestly a bit wiped out from the vaporetto ride from the station – Venice in summer can be a sweaty affair, with all the tourists clogging the bridges. But stepping into this old palazzo at Castello 4429 felt like a cool exhale. It’s tucked just off Campo Santa Maria Formosa, which is one of those quieter squares where locals actually hang out, grabbing espresso at the corner bar or chatting by the church steps – not the mad rush of San Marco, but close enough that you’re only a 10-minute wander to the Rialto Bridge or St. Mark’s if you fancy it. The entrance is unassuming, almost hidden behind a wrought-iron gate, and check-in was a breeze; the staff – mostly Venetians, I think – were chatty without being pushy, handing over a map with handwritten notes on the best nearby cicchetti spots (try the baccalà mantecato at that tiny osteria on Calle del Mondo Novo, it’s divine). Oh, and no elevators in the older wings, so if you’re hauling luggage, pack light or ask for help – they were quick to grab my bag, which was a lifesaver after dodging gondola touts all day.
What really hooked me was how the place blends that classic Venetian vibe with just enough modern comfort to make you forget you’re in a building that’s probably seen centuries of intrigue. My room overlooked a skinny canal – nothing grand like the Grand Canal, but charming in its own way, with the soft lap of water against stone and the occasional murmur of voices echoing up at dusk. The decor’s all heavy drapes, polished wood floors that creak a little (in a cozy, not annoying way), and those high ceilings that make you feel like minor nobility – it’s called Ca’ dei Conti for a reason, after all, “House of the Counts.” Breakfast was solid, served in a sunny courtyard where the smell of fresh cornetti mixed with blooming jasmine; not a massive buffet, but quality stuff like prosciutto and local cheeses, and the coffee’s strong enough to wake you for an early stroll. Honestly, the Wi-Fi’s a tad spotty in some rooms – blame the thick walls, I suppose – but who comes to Venice to scroll Instagram? And while Castello gets lively in the evenings with folks spilling out from aperitivo bars, the hotel’s position keeps the noise down; I slept like a log, even during Carnevale season when the city’s buzzing. It’s not perfect – the bathrooms are on the compact side, with those quirky Italian showers that flood if you’re not careful – but it adds to the authentic feel, you know?
All in all, if you’re after a spot that feels genuinely Venetian without the tourist trap prices or crowds, this 4-star gem with its 8.2 rating is a smart pick. I’ve stayed in flashier places near the Piazza, but they lack the soul – here, you’re immersed in the neighborhood, maybe catching a whiff of frying onions from a nearby apartment or spotting kids playing football in the campo. It’s ideal for couples or solo travelers who want to explore on foot, perhaps popping into the Querini Stampalia museum just around the corner for a quiet afternoon. Sure, Venice can be overwhelming, but basing yourself at Ca’ dei Conti makes it manageable, even magical. I’d go back in a heartbeat – well, maybe in shoulder season to avoid the peak heat.

What could be improved: Only had one night which it was longerChristine from United Kingdom – 10 October 2024 (9/10)
Very helpful and friendly staff. Breakfast was excellent. Quiet location very close to San Marco.
What could be improved: The shower was not particularly good. The room was cold (due to the municipality regulating when the heating can be turned on), however, the hotel provided a heater upon request.Manon from United Kingdom – 4 October 2024 (7/10)
Staff were friendly and helpful and the room was very comfortable and clean.
What could be improved: It was a bit outdated and rooms are very small and dark. It’s rated as a 4* hotel, but I would say it’s more of a 3*. Having said that, all hotels in Venice are very expensive so this is a good option that’s relatively affordable.Wayne from United Kingdom – 22 September 2024 (9/10)
The hotel was very central, once we'd worked out the twists and turns of the streets and canals. Our room was a suite beautifully furnished with a very comfortable bed. The staff we're incredibly helpful, didn't seem to mind our poor attempts at Italian and we're happy to arrange trips and give recommendations.
What could be improved: Can't think of anything.Miguel from United States – 13 September 2024 (9/10)
Good breakfast, great staff, and good location

The view!
What could be improved: The room we were in does not correspond to the rooms in the pictures that we paid for!!! You pay for one, you get another!
This is not correct!
