You know, I stumbled upon Hotel Do Pozzi almost by accident during a rainy October trip to Venice – I’d been wandering down Calle Larga XXII Marzo, dodging puddles and those high-end shop windows (think Gucci and the like, all lit up like they’re daring you to splurge), and there it was, tucked away in this narrow San Marco alley that’s somehow both bustling and hidden. It’s not one of those grand palazzos overlooking the Grand Canal – honestly, for a 3-star spot with a solid 7.8 rating, it’s more like a cozy bolt-hole that feels authentically Venetian, you know? I arrived via vaporetto from Santa Lucia station, lugging my bag over a couple of bridges – no cars in Venice, remember, so everything’s on foot or by water taxi, which can be a hassle if you’re not prepared. Check-in was straightforward, though the front desk guy was chatting away in rapid Italian about the latest acqua alta warnings (those high tides that flood the streets in fall – pack rubber boots if you’re visiting then). My room was on the second floor, overlooking a quiet courtyard – nothing fancy, but the wooden beams and that faint musty scent of old stone mixed with fresh linen made it feel lived-in, like staying at a friend’s place rather than a sterile hotel chain.

What really sold me on the place was how it plants you right in the heart of things without the overwhelming tourist crush – I mean, you’re just a five-minute stroll from Piazza San Marco, where you can grab an espresso at Florian’s if you’re feeling extravagant, or duck into the less-crowded side streets toward Campo Santo Stefano for a real cicchetti bar (those little Venetian tapas spots – try the baccalà mantecato, it’s divine). The hotel itself has this charming, no-frills vibe: breakfast is a simple spread of croissants, fruit, and strong coffee in a small dining room that echoes with the clink of plates and distant church bells from La Fenice opera house nearby (catch a show if you can; it’s magical, even if opera’s not your thing). Rooms are compact – well, sort of snug, which is par for the course in Venice – with decent Wi-Fi that held up for my late-night work emails, and the air con hummed quietly enough not to disturb sleep. Oh, and a minor gripe: the bathroom was a bit dated, with tiles that could use a refresh, but the hot water was reliable, and that’s gold after a day of traipsing over bridges. Noise-wise, it’s surprisingly peaceful at night, though mornings bring the chatter of delivery boats on the nearby rio – adds to the atmosphere, if you ask me.

All in all, if you’re after a spot that’s unpretentious and lets you live like a local without breaking the bank, Hotel Do Pozzi is a gem – especially in shoulder seasons like spring or fall when Venice isn’t swarming with day-trippers. It’s not perfect (who needs perfection in a city this quirky?), but it gave me that warm, insider feel, like I’d unlocked a secret corner of San Marco. I’d go back in a heartbeat – just remember to book a room away from the street if you’re a light sleeper, and hey, explore the nearby Mercerie for some hidden gelato spots. Trust me, it’s the kind of place that makes you fall for Venice all over again.

  The facilities were great and the room was better than I expected. The location of the hotel was ideal and allowed us to visit around the area.

  Most of the staff were very friendly and nice. Hotel was centrally located .
  
  What could be improved: I found the visitors tax awkward as I wasn't sure how to play and the receptionist wasn't helpful when I asked. I wasted time trying to sort it online when all he had to do was tell me I could just pay it with the bill.

  The location was perfect,several minutes walk from San Marks square
  Double rooms are renovated, clean, good lightening, non smoking, air conditioner was working perfectly, bathroom clean, new hairdryer
  
  What could be improved: Everything was good besides that they didn’t add coffee for the next day. It’s written coffee/ tee included but seems that’s only for one use

  Great position, few minutes form piazza San Marco, teatro la Fenice and the boat transport to Murano, Burano e Torcello.
  
  What could be improved: The bathroom was very small, there was no hairdryer in the room and the walls are very thin. We could hear the alarms/tv in the rooms next to us.
