Hotel Description
You know, I stumbled upon Hotel Flora during my last trip to Venice a couple of summers ago, and honestly, it was one of those places that just clicks right away – like finding a quiet corner in the middle of all that tourist chaos. Tucked away on Calle Larga XXII Marzo, which is basically this chic little street lined with high-end shops like Gucci and such, it’s super close to St. Mark’s Square – I mean, you can walk there in under five minutes without breaking a sweat. But here’s the thing: it’s not right on the square, so you dodge that overwhelming buzz of pigeons and selfie sticks. Instead, you’re on a side alley that feels more authentic, with those narrow calli where locals pop in and out of cafes. I remember arriving via vaporetto from Santa Lucia station – easy enough, about a 20-minute ride to San Marco stop – and dragging my suitcase over the bridges, but the hotel’s entrance is discreet, almost hidden behind a wrought-iron gate that leads to this lush little garden courtyard. Oh man, that garden – it’s got these blooming jasmine vines and old stone benches, and in the mornings, you’d hear the faint chime of bells from the nearby San Moisè church, mixing with the distant hum of canal boats. For a 3-star spot, it punches way above its weight with a 9.3 rating, and I get why; it’s family-run, so the staff actually remembers your name, not like those big chains where you’re just a room number.
What really sold me, though, was how the place balances that classic Venetian vibe without feeling stuffy or overpriced. The rooms are on the smaller side – well, it’s Venice, so everything’s compact, right? – but mine had these exposed wooden beams and heavy velvet curtains that made it feel cozy, almost like stepping into an old palazzo. No elevator, mind you, so if you’ve got heavy bags, ask for a ground-floor room or prepare for some stairs (I learned that the hard way after a gelato binge). Breakfast is served in the courtyard when the weather’s nice – think fresh cornetti, cappuccino that’s actually strong enough to wake you up, and those little jars of homemade jam that taste like they’re from someone’s nonna’s kitchen. It’s not flashy, but practical touches like free Wi-Fi that doesn’t glitch out and air conditioning that hums quietly (a godsend in July’s humidity) make a difference. And location-wise, you’re steps from La Fenice opera house – I caught a show there one evening, and it was magical walking back under the stars without dealing with late-night crowds. Sure, the area gets busy during Carnevale season, with masks and revelers spilling over, but the hotel’s tucked enough that noise levels stay low; I slept like a baby, even with the occasional gondola serenade echoing from the canal nearby.
All in all, if you’re eyeing Venice without wanting to blow your budget on some ritzy 5-star, Hotel Flora’s the kind of spot that makes you feel like you’ve got the inside scoop. It’s got that genuine charm – smells of blooming flowers in the air, textures of cool marble floors underfoot – and it’s perfect for couples or solo travelers who want to explore without the hassle. I left thinking, you know what, I’d totally come back; it’s not perfect (bathrooms could use a bit more space), but for the price and that high rating, it’s a winner in a city where authenticity is gold.

When I was planning a trip to Venice for my daughter and me, a friend said, “You HAVE to stay at Hotel Flora." It's the best place to stay in Venice! She was right. Everything was wonderful: staff, room, location, and a quiet garden for breakfast and afternoon snacks/drinks. The staff is incredible! Thanks to Marco and Nona for helping my daughter and me deal with a difficult transportation issue. When traveling to Venice, do yourself a favor and stay at Hotel Flora….truly wonderful!

the hotel was like a movie. So elegant, nice and decorated. The staff were amazing. Nicoletta helped a lot with my early commute to the airport, and the front desk clerk even carried out my luggage to get to the water taxi quickly so i didn't lose my flight. Amazing people and amazing place.
What could be improved: that i had to leave too early, 4am, so i couldn't enjoy the breakfast in the amazing patio. Next time i won't miss it 🙂Exceptional – Wendy from United States – 4 June 2025 (10/10)
