Hotel Description

You know, stepping off the vaporetto at Ca’ d’Oro and weaving through those narrow calli in Cannaregio – that’s when Venice really starts to feel like it’s letting you in on its secrets. I remember dodging a few delivery carts on Strada Nova, the kind that locals use to haul everything from laundry to fresh fish, before turning onto Ss. Apostoli and spotting Hotel Giorgione. It’s tucked away on this quiet side street, away from the San Marco chaos, but honestly, it’s just a 10-minute stroll to the Rialto Bridge – perfect if you’re like me and prefer wandering without the constant selfie-stick crowds. The building itself has that classic Venetian vibe, with its faded pink facade and wrought-iron balconies that make you think of old merchant houses. Check-in was a breeze; the staff – mostly Venetians who actually live in the neighborhood – chatted about the best time to hit the nearby bacari for cicchetti (those little snacks that are basically Venice’s version of tapas). My room overlooked a tiny courtyard, and while it wasn’t huge – I mean, space is at a premium here – the high ceilings and heavy velvet curtains gave it this cozy, almost theatrical feel. Oh, and the bed? Super comfortable after a day of pounding the pavements; I slept like a rock, even with the faint church bells from Santi Apostoli chiming in the morning.

What really sets this place apart, though, is the garden – yeah, an actual outdoor space with a small pool, which is kind of a unicorn in Venice where everything’s crammed together. I spent an afternoon there in late spring, lounging under the wisteria vines with a spritz in hand, listening to the distant hum of boats on the canal. It’s not some massive resort setup, but that’s the charm; it feels intimate, like you’re borrowing a local’s backyard. Breakfast was solid too – fresh cornetti, prosciutto, and that strong Italian coffee that wakes you right up – served in a room with exposed brick walls that smell faintly of aged wood and espresso. Well, sort of a minor gripe: the Wi-Fi can be spotty in the older wings, but hey, you’re in Venice – put the phone down and explore. The neighborhood’s great for that; pop over to the Jewish Ghetto just a short walk away for some history, or grab dinner at a no-frills osteria on Fondamenta della Misericordia, where the seafood risotto is killer and way cheaper than the tourist traps. Noise-wise, it’s peaceful at night – no rowdy groups stumbling back from Piazza San Marco – but if you’re here during Carnevale, expect some extra buzz in the air.

All in all, if you’re after a spot that captures that authentic Venetian essence without the over-the-top luxury price tag (though it’s not exactly budget, let’s be real), Hotel Giorgione’s a winner. It’s got that 4-star polish with an 8.5 rating that feels earned – think reliable comfort mixed with those little surprises that make you smile. I’ve stayed in flashier places, but this one sticks with me because it feels lived-in, like you’re part of the city rather than just visiting. Next time I’m in town, I’d book it again in a heartbeat – especially in shoulder season when the canals are quieter and you can really soak it in.

Everything. Nice place to stay. Pleasant staff.

  • Gillian from United Kingdom – 17 February 2025 (8/10)

    Very quaint

  • Philippa from Italy – 3 November 2024 (8/10)

Good location, 20 minutes from Rialto. Quiet location.

What could be improved: Rooms not too insulated for sound so could hear other guests outside.

  • Camilla from Denmark – 20 October 2024 (9/10)

We had a courtyard room which was fanstic. The location and stadd were excellent. In the warm summer it made a world of difference that the hotel had a small swimming pool!

  • Barbara from United Kingdom – 13 October 2024 (7/10)

Location, lobby and ambience with Venician glass etc, breakfast very good. Check out 11.00 am

What could be improved: No kettle in the room! Pretty poor for a 4 star hotel, and surprising. Both coffee machines broke down at breakfast and the coffee provided after that by staff was very poor quality. The jaccousi/pool didn't open until 11.00 which meant that as I was checking out that morning I couldn't use it.

  • William from United States – 7 October 2024 (9/10)

The staff–and particularly the front-desk staff–are exceptionally friendly and professional. The common areas are beautiful and well cared for. The courtyard is like an oasis in a city that doesn't have a lot of foliage otherwise. Breakfast at the Hotel Giorgione is a highlight with many delicious options, both sweet and savory. The location is great, close to many excellent restaurants, bars, and gelaterias, and within a reasonable walking distance (< one mile) of every main sight/site.

What could be improved: It isn't accurate to say that there is anything that we didn't like. To be fair, we liked everything about the Hotel Giorgione. It might be worth mentioning that our room, though comfortable, clean, and attractive, was not large. It is also not directly on a canal, if that is important to you. We found that its convenient location more than made up for that.

  • Mary-ann from United States – 5 October 2024 (9/10)

great selection of breakfast foods and my husband liked the coffee machine. The wait staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was convenient to the water taxi, restaurants and shops.

  • Richard from United Kingdom – 9 September 2024 (9/10)

very good standard hotel, staff were all very courteous
    great location
breakfast was well stocked with plenty of choices
    nice outdoor seating area.

What could be improved: electric plug points were lacking and the one's that were there seemed a bit outdated and dubious
breakfast setting was good, but they need to update their toaster, which seemed to take forever!

  • Kathy from Australia – 5 September 2024 (7/10)

Nice hotel made up of many buildings joined together over time. Good location , easy walk to everything. Comfy beds and pillows. Pleasant room with windows you can open .

What could be improved: Booked this hotel especially because it had a pool so I was disappointed that you had to pre book a daily 1 hour session. Breakfast was not up to the standard of similar hotels.

  • Charlene from United Kingdom – 3 September 2024 (9/10)

Great location, swimming pool is lovely.

What could be improved: Beds were a little hard.
