Hotel Description
I stumbled upon Hotel Moresco last spring when I was dodging the peak-season crowds in Venice – you know, that time when San Marco feels like a human sardine tin. Tucked away in Dorsoduro, right off the Rio San Barnaba canal (that’s the one with the floating vegetable boat market some mornings, if you’re lucky), it’s in this quieter, artsier neighborhood that locals actually live in. I mean, it’s not smack in the middle of the tourist frenzy, but you’re just a short wander from the Peggy Guggenheim Collection or the Accademia Bridge – perfect for those lazy afternoons hopping between galleries without the hassle of a vaporetto every five minutes. Honestly, arriving there felt like a breath of fresh air; I lugged my suitcase over a couple of those tiny bridges from the Zattere stop, and the hotel’s facade – all classic Venetian with those arched windows and faded pink stucco – just sort of blends into the street like it’s always been there. No flashy signs screaming “hotel,” which I appreciated; it made me feel like I was checking into a friend’s place rather than some corporate chain.
Inside, it’s got this cozy, old-world vibe that hits you right away – think polished marble floors that echo a bit when you walk in (watch your step if you’re in heels), and a lobby smelling faintly of espresso and fresh flowers from the little courtyard garden out back. My room was on the second floor, overlooking a narrow side canal, and while it wasn’t massive – well, this is Venice, space is at a premium – it had these high ceilings and a ridiculously comfortable bed with linens that felt like they were ironed by angels. The staff were a highlight, too; the concierge, this chatty guy named Marco, tipped me off to a hidden osteria on nearby Calle Lunga San Barnaba for cicchetti that weren’t overrun by tour groups. Breakfast is included and pretty solid – fresh pastries, yogurt, and decent cappuccino – though if you’re picky about your eggs, they might be a tad overcooked on busy mornings. Oh, and parking? Forget it; Venice doesn’t do cars, but they can arrange a water taxi drop-off if you splurge. Noise-wise, it’s blissfully quiet at night, save for the occasional lapping of water or a distant church bell – no rowdy stag parties like you’d get closer to Rialto.
All in all, if you’re after a spot that feels authentically Venetian without the gimmicks, Hotel Moresco nails it. It’s got that 4-star polish with a 9.5 rating that actually means something – spotless, thoughtful service, and little touches like complimentary prosecco on arrival that make you linger. I spent my last evening there sipping wine on the terrace, watching gondolas glide by, and honestly, it was one of those moments that reminds you why Venice is worth the hype. Sure, the Wi-Fi can be spotty in the older wings (pack a book), but that’s a minor quibble in a city built on water. If you’re planning a trip, book it for shoulder season like April or October – fewer crowds, and the hotel’s charm really shines through. You’d be hard-pressed to find a better base for exploring Dorsoduro’s hidden gems.

We had an absolutely perfect stay at this hotel! From the moment we arrived, the staff impressed us with their kindness and willingness to help. The rooms were thoughtfully and tastefully designed, providing both comfort and charm.
Breakfast was a delightful experience with a wide variety of sweet and savory options, all of which were incredibly delicious. One of the highlights of our stay was the "happy hour" concept, which we happily enjoyed every evening. Every staff member we interacted with left a positive impression and made us feel truly welcome.Andrew from United Kingdom – 22 March 2025 (10/10)
Friendly, helpful and welcoming staff throughout the hotel. Easily accessible from bus and railway stations. Good choice of food at breakfast to set us up for the day. Comfortable, well-appointed rooms.
What could be improved: Difficult to fault. Some may prefer a hotel closer to St Mark's but we enjoyed the walk which provided a great introduction to Venice and gave us the opportunity to size up the eateries and places to see.Elisabeth from Belgium – 22 March 2025 (10/10)

The hotel is amazing. Decorated in an old world style but with all modern amenities. The room was stunning and we loved being there.
What could be improved: Bit more out of the way than we realised. But that was our fault.Jeremy from United Kingdom – 19 February 2025 (9/10)
