Hotel Santa Marina Overview

First Impressions

Walking into Hotel Santa Marina feels like discovering one of those hidden gems that locals actually know about. This four-star property sits right in Campo Santa Marina in the Castello district, and honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering. You know how some Venice hotels feel touristy? This one doesn’t — it’s tucked into a quieter corner where you’ll hear more Italian conversations than camera clicks.

The Perfect Venice Base

The thing about staying in Castello is that you’re close enough to everything but far enough from the chaos of San Marco. I mean, you can walk to the Doge’s Palace in about ten minutes, but you’re not dealing with the crowds right outside your window. The campo itself is actually quite charming — there’s a small bridge nearby and a few local bars where Venetians grab their morning coffee. Couples seem to get this location particularly well (they rate it 9.3, which honestly makes sense when you experience it yourself).

Your Room and Comfort

The rooms here strike that sweet spot between traditional Venetian character and modern comfort. You’ll find the typical high ceilings and period details you’d expect, but everything feels fresh and well-maintained. What I really appreciated was how quiet my room was — Venice can be surprisingly noisy, especially near the main tourist routes, but this spot stays peaceful even during peak season. The bathrooms are updated without losing that Italian elegance, and there’s actually decent storage space (which, let’s be honest, isn’t always a given in Venice hotels).

Starting Your Day Right

Breakfast here is one of those pleasant surprises that sets the tone for your entire day. They’ve got the full spread — continental options, proper Italian pastries, vegetarian choices, and even American-style items if you’re craving something familiar. The buffet setup means you can take your time, and they actually know how to make decent coffee (not always guaranteed, even in Italy). I found myself lingering over breakfast more than usual, partly because the dining area has this relaxed atmosphere that doesn’t rush you out the door.

Why Guests Love It

What really works about Hotel Santa Marina is how it balances authenticity with comfort. You’re staying in a real Venetian neighborhood without sacrificing modern amenities or service quality. The staff genuinely seems to care about helping you navigate Venice — they’ll give you actual useful directions and restaurant recommendations, not just the standard tourist suggestions. With an 8.3 rating, it’s clearly doing something right, and after staying here, I can see why people keep coming back. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re experiencing Venice rather than just visiting it. The apartment-style layout of some suites offers flexibility for longer stays, and the convenient parking arrangements nearby make arrival hassle-free.

Reviews of Hotel Santa Marina

  • Vytautas from Lithuania – 1 April 2025 (9/10)

Good breakfast, staff, clean rooms, good location

What could be improved: A little bit noicy, but it's good like in Venice 🙂

  • David from United Kingdom – 3 March 2025 (8/10)

This is a very nice hotel just off the main busy area around the Rialto bridge it's tucked away in a quiet little square, which for a newcomer to Venice can be a little awkward to find, however I have since discovered that the Santa Marina has a small advantage over other hotels which to a newbee is very beneficial to know, this little plus is at the back of the hotel it has a small canal and it's own pier so you can order your taxi from the airport and it will take you and your luggage to the hotels back door. They will even order you a taxi back for your departure….this service is not cheap but it is very efficient and stress free which is what we came to Venice for.
The hotel's location is quite central on the island so all attractions are in easy reach and with lots of shops bars and restaurants to refresh and entertain you as you walk to see the sights I would say the Santa Marina was a good choice for us to get the best out of our stay in Venice.
Our room was very nice clean, modern and comfortable.
The staff were very helpful, spoke good English and were happy to answer any questions we had, breakfast was good too lots of choice and even a glass of prosecco was available as we found out it's not uncommon for the people of Venice to start the day that way.
Would we stay here again YES absolutely and would bring our friends as we are confident they would enjoy what we have discovered here.
Thank you Santa Marina and look forward to seeing you again hopefully sooner rather than later.

  • Vered from Israel – 25 February 2025 (9/10)

Breakfast was rich and tasty. Team was kind and friendly . Hotel location very convenient and close to main sites

What could be improved: Wi if reception very low inside the room
Could add more vegetables to breakfast

  • Ivan from Moldova – 20 February 2025 (8/10)

Very nice and helpful personnel. The breakfast was really good. The price of the room and meal was ok. The positioning of the hotel is perfect for staying in the centre of Venice several days (everything you need is several steps distance from the hotel)

What could be improved: The too warm and humid air in the room, air-conditioning present, but not working properly. It was necessary to open the window at midnight (in February). The sound isolation is not obviously first-class.

  • Geg_thomas from New Zealand – 21 January 2025 (9/10)

Great hotel in a slightly quieter part (which is good) of Venice but still close to a lot of key areas. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and the room was very nice and comfortable. Recommended!

  • Matthew from United States – 7 January 2025 (9/10)

    Great location.

  • Aileen from United States – 5 November 2024 (9/10)

The location was great and the staff was very friendly and helpful (with the exception of one crabby man at the front desk 😆). The breakfast buffet was amazing and the ladies who worked it were wonderful.

What could be improved: Getting to my room was a bit like going through a maze and there were lots of steps

  • Iryna from United States – 2 November 2024 (9/10)

Excellent breakfast, great location, friendly staff.

    What could be improved: No

  • Sara from United Kingdom – 22 October 2024 (8/10)

The breakfast was great, the pancakes with fruit were delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel was very clean. Our room was great. It is in a central location, within minutes of bridge Rialto.

What could be improved: The WiFi didn’t work very well in our room, and we had to go to reception to get a good signal.

  • Anna from Poland – 18 March 2023 (9/10)

    – great location
    – comfortable bed and choice of two pillows (hard and soft)
    – luggage storage
    – clean rooms
    – check out time

What could be improved: – you can hear your neighbours perfectly
    – during breakfast once fruits finish they dont add extra ones
