Hotel Tintoretto Overview

First Impressions

Walking into Hotel Tintoretto feels like discovering a well-kept secret in the Cannaregio district. This three-star property sits quietly on a charming canal-side street, away from the tourist chaos but still perfectly positioned for exploring Venice. The building itself has that authentic Venetian character — you know, the kind where you can actually imagine locals living here rather than just posing for Instagram photos.

Location That Actually Makes Sense

Here’s what I love about staying in Cannaregio — you’re close enough to walk to San Marco in about 15 minutes, but you’re also in a neighborhood where Venetians actually live and work. The hotel is just steps from the Santa Fosca area, which honestly feels more genuine than some of the overly touristy spots near the main attractions. You’ll find local bacari (wine bars) around the corner and a morning market that’s not entirely focused on selling overpriced souvenirs. The location score of 9.1 makes perfect sense when you realize you can easily reach both the Rialto and the train station without getting completely lost in the maze of bridges.

The Room Experience

The rooms at Hotel Tintoretto are what I’d call “thoughtfully simple” — they’re not trying to be something they’re not, but they get the essentials right. Each room feels clean and comfortable, with decent-sized windows that actually let in natural light (which, trust me, isn’t always a given in Venice). The bathrooms are compact but functional, and the beds are surprisingly comfortable for a three-star property. What really struck me was how quiet it gets at night — being slightly off the main tourist routes means you’re not dealing with groups of people wandering around at all hours.

Practical Venetian Living

The staff here actually knows the neighborhood, which makes a huge difference when you need directions or recommendations. They’ll point you toward the local spots rather than just the obvious tourist traps. The hotel doesn’t have a full restaurant, but honestly, you’re in Venice — you want to be out exploring the incredible food scene anyway. There’s a small breakfast area that serves a decent continental spread, nothing fancy but it’ll get you started for a day of walking around the city.

Why Guests Love It

What keeps people coming back to Hotel Tintoretto is that it strikes the right balance between authentic Venice and tourist practicality. Couples especially seem to appreciate the quieter setting — there’s something romantic about staying in a real neighborhood while still being able to easily reach all the must-see spots. The 8.0 overall rating reflects exactly what this place is: a solid, unpretentious base for exploring Venice without breaking the bank or feeling like you’re staying in a tourist factory. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re getting a genuine taste of Venetian life, even if you’re only there for a few days.

Venice’s hotels pair butlered gondolas, Murano chandeliers, and concierge-led lagoon hops.

Reviews of Hotel Tintoretto

  • Penny from United Kingdom – 20 March 2025 (9/10)

    Good, decent breakfast,

What could be improved: It was all fine

  • Andrew from Austria – 31 January 2025 (8/10)

Solid, comfortable, loud being right next to the canal.

  • Nicola from United Kingdom – 15 August 2024 (9/10)

Hotel is very central, there is a bit of noise in the morning but this is Venice and people have to work, but hey ho it did not put me off @ all there is walking involved to get you to the main parts, but I would wholeheartedly say go explore as that’s the beauty of it. Around every little corner there is something new. The rustic look of the whole area for me was exactly how I wanted to see it.

What could be improved: Pack mossy spray as those little critters get ya!

  • Steven from United Kingdom – 26 July 2024 (9/10)

Helpful staff throughout stay. Prior to vist we asked questions about accessibility and although their stair lift had broken they arranged to get it fixed on the day we arrived.
The hotel was clean and well maintained.
    The breakfast was good.
    We would definitely return!

What could be improved: Nothing really.

  • Janet from United Kingdom – 11 July 2024 (7/10)

Quirky old hotel off the main tourist area. We stayed in the annexe across the road. Our family room had a beamed ceiling and was comfortable. Friendly staff gave us a warm welcome. Good breakfast buffet.

What could be improved: The electric sockets were challenging- especially trying to get the kettle plug to work. We had to reconfigure the room to make it more manageable. The tea/milk/stirrers were not replaced nor the shower gel. Fortunately we had brought our own.

  • Leanne from South Africa – 10 June 2024 (9/10)

Great location. All major attractions are within walking distance. Please note that there is no elevator, so be prepared to carry your luggage to your room. On arrival we were "upgraded" due to 3 persons staying in the room. We were in room 102 (first floor) with canal view. The room was spacious and well appointed. Note that you are on the water so there are mosquitoes. It wasn't terrible, but I prefer fresh air and therefore had the windows open during the late afternoons/mornings. Mosquito repellant is provided. Bring cream if you do tend to get bitten to avoid the itch. The food in the morning was perfect. Perfect selection of a continental breakfast with coffee from the machine – magic! Breakfast is only served from 07:45 am, although there is a bit of a selection available earlier if you have an earlier tour booked. There is a restaurant attached to the hotel which offers discounts on their foods. We never tried it but it was busy with locals so must be a favourite. Overall, I would definitely recommend the hotel.

What could be improved: Everything was as expected after reading reviews and seeing images, so there was no surprise.

  • Judith from Australia – 5 June 2024 (8/10)

Hotel was not too far from the railway station.
The room was light, airy and quiet.
    I had breakfast outside!

What could be improved: The hotel was not in just one building.
Breakfast area was a bit squishy.

  • Nancy from United States – 23 April 2024 (8/10)

Quaint old building remodeled inside. On a piazza and canal.

  • Nikolay from Bulgaria – 25 November 2023 (8/10)

Location, the staff and window view.
    The breakfast was good.

What could be improved: Every day the breakfast is the same.

  • Jennifer from United States – 29 June 2023 (9/10)

The hotel was easy to get to, the staff was friendly and efficient, and they allowed us to leave our luggage before check-in. Our room was at the annex across from the hotel. It was easy to get to. The room was small but suited our needs for one night. Everything in Venice was easily accessible by foot from our room. It was a great stay.
