Hotel Description

I remember stumbling upon Hotel Torino after a long vaporetto ride from the train station—honestly, if you’re coming from Santa Lucia, just hop on the No. 1 and get off at San Marco Vallaresso; it’s a quick walk from there, dodging the crowds on the Frezzeria before turning into Calle Delle Ostreghe. That little alley feels like a secret, you know? Tucked away in the heart of San Marco, but not right in the thick of the piazza madness. I arrived mid-afternoon in September—peak season, but the check-in was a breeze; the front desk guy, Marco (I think that was his name), chatted about the latest acqua alta warnings while handing over my key. No fuss, no long lines, which is a godsend in Venice where everything can feel like a queue. The building itself has that classic Venetian vibe—old stone facade with those narrow windows overlooking the calle, and inside, the lobby smells faintly of polished wood and fresh coffee from the breakfast setup. It’s not flashy, mind you—three stars means cozy, not luxurious—but there’s a warmth to it, like staying at a friend’s well-kept apartment.

What really won me over were the rooms—mine was on the second floor, with these heavy velvet curtains that blocked out the early morning light from the canal just a stone’s throw away (actually, you’re super close to Rio di San Moisè, so you might hear the occasional gondola splashing by at dawn). The bed was comfy enough, firm mattress with crisp sheets, and the bathroom had one of those rain showers that feels like a treat after trekking around all day. Breakfast is included—think croissants, yogurt, and decent espresso in a small dining room that opens onto a tiny courtyard; it’s nothing gourmet, but it hits the spot, especially if you’re fueling up for a walk to La Fenice theater, which is literally around the corner. I mean, you’re steps from seeing an opera or just wandering to Rialto Bridge without the hassle of multiple bridges. That said, the rooms can feel a tad snug—Venice hotels often do, with that old architecture squeezing things in—and if you’re a light sleeper, the bells from St. Mark’s might wake you around 7 a.m. during high season. But well, that’s part of the charm, right? The Wi-Fi was surprisingly reliable for streaming a quick show before bed, and they have a little lounge area where I nursed a spritz one evening, chatting with other guests about dodging the tourist traps on nearby Calle Larga XXII Marzo.

All in all, if you’re looking for a spot that feels authentically Venetian without breaking the bank—rates hover around 150-200 euros in shoulder season—Hotel Torino is a solid pick. It’s got that insider feel, like you’re living in San Marco rather than just visiting, and honestly, after a day of navigating the throngs at the Doge’s Palace (five minutes away, tops), coming back to this quiet nook is a relief. Sure, parking’s a non-issue since cars don’t exist here—leave your wheels in Mestre and take the train in—but pack light for those stairs; no elevator in sight. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in quieter months like November when the fog rolls in and the place feels even more magical. You know what? It’s not perfect, but it’s real Venice, and that’s what counts.

Reviews

  • Good – Brianne from United States – 10 July 2025 (7/10)

    The location was amazing!

What could be improved: Was heat wave and air conditioning went out. Hotel was understanding and adjusted our bill.

  • Very good – Alex from United Kingdom – 9 July 2025 (8/10)

Great location. Comfortable.Lovelt breakfast. Friendly staff. We saw some negative Google review comments that were not true for us.

What could be improved: Some of the decor and fittings were a little tired around the edges.

  • Once we found the hotel, we enjoyed our stay despite the slow lift to the top floor. – Ian from Australia – 7 July 2025 (7/10)

The location was excellent and despite the crowds outside it was very quiet. The staff were efficient and helpful. Breakfast was good with a fair range of options and good service. The room was clean and well maintained.

What could be improved: The lift was probably the slowest in Venice and perhaps Italy. Finding the property was not easy as the only sign is on the doorstep of a single door.

  • Absolutely wonderful location, 2 minutes from St Mark’s Square! – Kirsty from Australia – 4 July 2025 (7/10)

Proximity to everything was outstanding and it had a traditional Italian aesthetic!

What could be improved: It had a musty smell and was extremely small. The bathroom got saturated when showering and our room was not like the picture in the booking.
Coffee and tea were not provided in rooms.

  • Hotel Torino – Galin from Italy – 3 July 2025 (9/10)

    Friendly staff

What could be improved: Too much noise from other rooms. Maybe because of insulation

  • Excellent location, accommodating staff, clean. – Traian from United States – 2 July 2025 (9/10)

    Location

What could be improved: The AC went out the last night

  • Good – Meibh from United Kingdom – 30 June 2025 (7/10)

    Great location

What could be improved: Very small room and bed was quite uncomfortable

  • overall great experience – Beadle from United States – 26 June 2025 (9/10)

stocked fridge, close to many things

What could be improved: Breakfast could be included in price of stay.

  • Perfect 3 night stay.great location 6/8 minutes from Saint Mark Square the boat station services Line 1 which goes – Daniel from United Kingdom – 21 June 2025 (9/10)

Location. 3 minutes from Santa Maria del Giulio boat dock.
Next to an excellent take away with local food and top gelato!
Quick check in. Fun lift (not for speed but great for 25kg suitcases!)
Long breakfast period with super selection of parties, hot and cold bacon/egg/ham cheese etc.

What could be improved: It seems other Italian hotels follow a policy of not providing tea making facilities. Missed that here, too.
Lack of hangers and sockets for chargers etc.

  • Great location but AC doesn’t really work. – Katy from United States – 16 June 2025 (7/10)

Great location and decent sized room. Bed was comfy.

What could be improved: The AC either did not work or was extremely inefficient. We were so uncomfortable trying to sleep each night. We did tell the staff and they said it worked fine but compared to the other places we have stayed so far, there was no way the AC was working properly.
