Hotel Description
I stumbled upon the iH Hotels Venezia Salute Palace last spring during one of those whirlwind trips to Venice, you know, when the city isn’t totally overrun by tourists yet but the canals are starting to sparkle under that soft April light. It’s tucked away in Dorsoduro, right at 222 – honestly, if you’re coming from the airport, hop on the Alilaguna water bus to Zattere stop, and it’s just a short wander along the Fondamenta Zattere al Ponte Longo, dodging the occasional cyclist or gelato vendor. My first impression? This place feels like a hidden gem in a city full of overpriced palaces – it’s a restored 17th-century building, with those classic Venetian arched windows and faded frescoes peeking out from the lobby walls. I mean, checking in was a breeze; the staff – mostly locals who know every shortcut through the sestiere – handed me my key with a quick chat about avoiding the high water alerts that sometimes flood the nearby Rio di San Trovaso. No pretentious vibe here, just a cozy welcome that made me drop my bags and head straight out to explore.
What really won me over, though, was how the hotel nails that balance between old-world charm and the little comforts you actually need after pounding the pavements all day. My room overlooked a quiet side canal – nothing grand like the Grand Canal views you pay an arm and a leg for elsewhere, but the gentle lapping of water against the stones at night was oddly soothing, drowning out any distant vaporetto hum. It’s a 3-star spot, so don’t expect marble spas or infinity pools (Venice isn’t built for that anyway), but the beds are comfy with those crisp linens that smell faintly of lavender, and the breakfast spread in the morning courtyard – oh man, fresh cornetti and cappuccino with a side of birdsong – sets you up perfectly. Well, one minor gripe: the Wi-Fi can be spotty in the thicker-walled rooms, especially if you’re trying to upload photos from your day at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, which is literally a five-minute stroll away across the Accademia Bridge. But hey, that’s Venice for you – sort of forces you to unplug and soak in the atmosphere, like the salty breeze off the lagoon or the echo of church bells from Santa Maria della Salute just around the corner.
All in all, if you’re the type who wants to feel like you’re living in Venice rather than just visiting, this place is a solid pick with its 8.5 rating feeling well-earned. It’s not flashy, but it’s authentic, and in a spot like Dorsoduro – quieter than San Marco but close enough to hop over for a sunset at Punta della Dogana – you’ll save on those insane central prices without sacrificing the magic. I left thinking, yeah, I’d come back in a heartbeat, maybe in the off-season when the fog rolls in and the whole area feels like your own private storybook. Trust me, it’s the kind of stay that lingers, long after you’ve caught the train out.

If I ever get back to Venice, I will stay here! The hotel was lovely, in a quiet part of Venice with an easy walk to all the restaurants, shops, historic sights, and water bus. We were in Venice at the peak of summer tourism and it was SO NICE to leave the hustle and bustle at the end of each day and retreat to a beautiful, quiet, air-conditioned room in this quaint neighborhood. Two water bus stops are just a five min walk (Zattare, on the blue line, and Salute on the Grand Canal) as well as a delicious, traditional Venetian restaurant — recommend by the hotel staff — called Trattoria Ai Cugnai.
What could be improved: Nothing. Loved all of it.Relaxing family base. – Fergus from Ireland – 12 July 2025 (9/10)
Family of four, we booked two rooms: both rooms were compact but we didn't come to Venice to stay in a hotel room. The beds were very comfortable, the Air conditioning was excellent (hit the low 30's Celcius during our stay) and the showers / bathrooms had plenty of space. The buffet breakfast was first class: a variety of fruits, juices, cereals, cold meats, scrambled eggs and bacon, freshly brewed coffee etc. If we needed to chill as a group there was plenty of space downstairs or, temperature permitting, out in the courtyard. Location was perfect: quiet and peaceful area and only a few minutes to the Vaporetto routes from Salute (next stop St Marks or stay on board all the way to the Lido).
What could be improved: At €17, even though quality and quantity cannot be faulted, the breakfast price is still steep.Exceptional – Roland from United States – 25 June 2025 (10/10)
