Il Nido di San Stae Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Il Nido di San Stae feels like discovering a hidden gem tucked away in one of Venice’s most authentic neighborhoods. This three-star boutique hotel sits quietly in Santa Croce — honestly, it’s refreshing to find a place that doesn’t scream “tourist trap” the moment you approach. The building itself has that weathered Venetian charm you’re hoping for, and when you step inside, there’s an immediate sense that someone actually cares about this place. It’s intimate without feeling cramped, which is no small feat in Venice where space is basically liquid gold.

Location & Neighborhood

You know what really impressed me about the location? It’s in Santa Croce, which means you’re living like a local while still being incredibly well-connected to everything that matters. The San Stae vaporetto stop is practically on your doorstep — I mean, we’re talking about a two-minute walk here. From there, you can reach St. Mark’s Square in about fifteen minutes by water bus, but honestly, the real magic happens when you just wander the neighborhood on foot. This area has that perfect balance where you’ll find authentic bacari (those little wine bars locals actually frequent) mixed with enough tourist amenities that you won’t feel stranded.

The Rooms

The rooms at Il Nido di San Stae are what I’d call thoughtfully designed rather than flashy. They’ve managed to blend traditional Venetian elements with modern comfort — think exposed beams and period details, but with reliable Wi-Fi and proper air conditioning (trust me, you’ll appreciate that in summer). The bathrooms are compact but well-appointed, which is pretty much the Venice standard. What really stands out is the attention to detail in the furnishings and the quality of the linens. Some rooms offer canal views, though even the courtyard-facing ones stay surprisingly quiet for being in the heart of the city.

Daily Experience

Breakfast here feels more like visiting a friend’s well-appointed kitchen than eating in a hotel dining room. It’s served in a cozy space that actually encourages you to linger over your coffee — something I found myself doing more than once while planning the day’s adventures. The staff genuinely seems to enjoy helping guests navigate Venice, and they’ll give you the kind of insider tips that make a real difference. I particularly appreciated their recommendations for restaurants that weren’t just the obvious choices near major landmarks.

Why Guests Love It

What makes Il Nido di San Stae special is how it strikes that sweet spot between authentic Venetian character and genuine hospitality. Couples especially seem drawn to the intimate atmosphere — there’s something romantic about staying in a neighborhood where you can actually imagine living, rather than just visiting. The location score of 9.3 isn’t just numbers on a page; it reflects how perfectly positioned you are to experience both tourist Venice and the real city that exists beyond the crowds. You’re close enough to everything important, but far enough from the chaos to actually enjoy your evenings.

Best hotels in Venice blend frescoed salons, marble hammams, and rooftop altanas for prosecco sunsets.

Reviews of Il Nido di San Stae

  • Yvonne from United Kingdom – 20 March 2025 (9/10)

The location and how quiet it was. The apartment was very comfortable and apart from only having 3 cups (we are big tea drinkers) it had everything we needed! Fantastic shower.

What could be improved: A few more cups but that really is a very minor issue.

  • Blanka from Italy – 27 February 2025 (7/10)

The apartment was quite spacious, comfortable and quiet. The location was also very good.

What could be improved: The kitchen was very narrow, without window and with basic equipment only. Cups and other dishware was missing. There was no possibility to leave the luggage 2 hours longer after the check out.

  • Nick from Canada – 20 July 2024 (9/10)

The location was excellent, only steps away from the San Stae Vaporetto stop which was very convenient for us with two children and luggage. It is not easy to get around Venice since there are no cars/taxis otherwise. It is in a quiet neighborhood but still a lot of cafes, shops and restaurants nearby right on a small canal. Only 10-15 minute walk away from the busier tourist areas.

The apartment itself is very traditional which we loved. The bedrooms are a good size and the beds comfortable. The kitchen and bathroom were a bit small but this was not an issue for us. The wifi dis not reach the bedrooms well, but we were not there for this so it was not a bother.

The host was extremely friendly, accommodating and very responsive to any questions we had.

What could be improved: We were there in the middle of a heat wave and one of the bedrooms is not air conditioned. We were able to cool it down by having the units in the other bedroom and main areas on.

  • Scott from Australia – 2 July 2024 (9/10)

Great location. They meet us at the room and showed us local things like shops etc

  • Gaetz from Canada – 19 May 2024 (6/10)

The location was fine as Venice is easy to walk around

What could be improved: I found the property had a mildew smell probably due to being so close to the canal.

  • Aman from United States – 26 September 2023 (9/10)

The property is super close to S State boat station. Also, the room are pretty big with a nice breakfast table for family.

What could be improved: There were mosquitoes and we had to use spray and ointments.

  • Simona from Italy – 17 July 2023 (8/10)

La location era bella e molto in linea con i gusti e lo stile della città

What could be improved: Abbiamo avuto dei problemi con la serratura.

  • Hoy from Canada – 12 May 2023 (6/10)

    very clean and comfortable

What could be improved: we had no control over the heat. was 18 degrees we were all cold. No hot water for showers first 2 days. No instructions on where hot water was to be turned on or wifi code was found in the bedroom behind the tv there should be a book about the house. my husband found the hot water controls behind a picture and we didn't figure it out until day 3 and finally could have hot showers

  • Anna from Estonia – 1 December 2022 (8/10)

    Good location,

  • Ana from United States – 4 July 2022 (9/10)
