First Impressions

Walking down the narrow Calle dei Preti in Castello, you might almost miss La Boheme if you’re not paying attention — and honestly, that’s part of its charm. This three-star boutique hotel sits tucked away in one of Venice’s most authentic neighborhoods, far enough from the tourist chaos of San Marco but close enough that you can still hear the distant hum of the city. The entrance feels intimate, almost like you’re being welcomed into someone’s carefully curated Venetian home rather than checking into a hotel.

Location & Neighborhood

Here’s what I love about Castello — it’s where actual Venetians still live and work. You’ll find neighborhood bakeries, small trattorias where locals grab their morning coffee, and narrow canals that haven’t been completely overrun by gondola traffic. La Boheme sits right in the sweet spot of this district, and couples especially seem to get it (they rate the location 9.9, which honestly makes perfect sense). You’re a pleasant 10-minute walk to St. Mark’s Square when you want the iconic Venice experience, but you can retreat back to this quieter corner when the crowds become too much.

The Rooms

The rooms here feel authentically Venetian without trying too hard — you know what I mean? There’s character in the details, from the traditional terrazzo floors to the way morning light filters through the windows overlooking the canal or courtyard. It’s not trying to be flashy or overly modern, which actually works perfectly in a city like Venice. The bathrooms are compact but well-designed (as you’d expect in a historic building), and the beds are genuinely comfortable after long days of walking on those unforgiving stone streets.

Getting Around

One thing that surprised me was how easy it is to navigate from here — Venice can be a maze, but Castello has this logical flow to it that makes sense once you get your bearings. The nearest vaporetto stop is just a few minutes away, so you can easily hop over to other islands or districts. But honestly, some of my best Venice moments happened just wandering the immediate neighborhood around La Boheme, discovering tiny squares and bridges that don’t make it into guidebooks.

Why Guests Love It

This place works because it doesn’t try to be everything to everyone. Instead, it does one thing really well — it gives you an authentic Venice experience in a neighborhood that still feels real. The staff genuinely knows the area and can point you toward that perfect little osteria or the best route to avoid tourist bottlenecks. For couples especially, there’s something romantic about staying in this quieter part of the city, where you can actually have a conversation while walking along the canals without being swept up in cruise ship crowds. It’s Venice, but it’s Venice on your terms.

  It's a good location, especially if you're visiting the Bienalle. The necessary tools / equipments are available
  
  What could be improved: I think improvements are needed: lack of cleanliness (only surface areas are cleaned, garbage in the bathroom has not been cleaned, dishes have been washed poorly, kitchen lacks cleanliness), the mattress needs to be replaced as the existing one is sagging and very uncomfortable, lack of choice of pillows (only very large, poor quality pillows). Bear in mind that the bedroom ceiling is very, very low and the stairs up to the bedroom are steep.

  La propiedad está muy bien! La ubicación excelente si para visitar la bienal. Zona muy tranquila y cerca de buenos restaurantes. Es muy agradable y muy completo.
  
  What could be improved: El techo del altillo/dormitoriio es muy bajo y está ubicado en un tercer piso por escalera. A mi no me molestó pero es para tener en cuenta.
  También pedí si era posible usar una noche el sillón cama porque estaba engripada y no quería compartir la cama con mi hija y no me lo permitieron. Me pareció un poco rígido en ese sentido.

  Die Lage der Wohnung hat uns besonders gut gefallen, da wir wegen der Biennale nach Venedig gekommen sind. Die Wohnung ist schön eingerichtet, man kann sich wohlfühlen.
  
  What could be improved: Uns hat irritiert, dass wir eine Late-Check-in-Gebühr von € 35,00 bezahlen mussten, da wir nach 19:00 Uhr angereist sind. Diese sollten wir bar in der Wohnung hinterlassen. Ebenfall die Venedig-Tax. Unseren Gastgeber haben wir nicht gesehen. Das war etwas anonym. Im Dachgeschoss, wo sich das Schlafzimmer befindet, ist die Decke sehr niedrig, dass man nur sehr gebückt gehen kann und sich von daher dort nicht aufhalten kann.

  We thought this was a perfect location. It’s in a calmer part of town but there’s still a ton of restaurants and a grocery store right next door. It also had everything we needed inside. And the bed was super comfortable.
  
  What could be improved: We could’ve used another roll of paper towels and some dish towels. this would have helped with dishes and cleaning up better in the kitchen. it was also strange how we had to take the trash out ourselves. we had never had to do that at an airbnb/ apartment type stay.

  Top Lage- prima um Venedig zu Fuß zu erkunden. In direkter Umgebung viele nette Restaurants und Cafés. Ruhig gelegen. Das Appartement ist sehr gut ausgestattet und wirklich schön eingerichtet, etwas Besonderes.
  
  What could be improved: Die Decke im Schlafzimmer ist niedrig, so dass man nicht aufrecht stehen kann, was für uns jetzt aber nicht so schlimm war. Da wir nur mit leichtem Gepäck gereist sind waren die drei steilen Treppen zum Appartement kein Problem, mit schwerem Gepäck könnte dies evtl. problematisch sein.

  Perfekt gelegene, ruhige große Ferienwohnung. Modern und gemütlich eingerichtet. In einem wunderschön alten Haus im Stadtkern.
  Alles, was man sonst noch braucht in direkter Umgebung…. Restaurants, COOP, Apotheke,….
  
  Sogar eine Waschmaschine war vorhanden.
  
  What could be improved: Die Wohnung war bei unserer vorab angemeldeten Ankunft um 15 Uhr noch nicht gereinigt.
  Wir fanden sie so vor, wie der Vormieter sie verlassen hatte.
  Wir wurden gebeten unser Gepäck zu deponieren und später wieder zu kommen. Das war dann okay.
  
  Das Schlafzimmer auf dem Zwischen- (Dach-)Boden hatte eine sehr niedrige Deckenhöhe. Dort kann auch eine sehr kleine Person nicht stehen.

  appartement idéalement placé, ,très confortable et au calme .jolie deco ,bien équipé et facile à vivre !très bonne literie.
  le quartier est vivant ,commerces et restauration à proximité ,non loin des arrêts vaporetto et des jardins !on reviendrait pour un deuxième séjour avec grand plaisir!
