Hotel Description
I remember stumbling upon La Finestra sulle Beccarie almost by accident last spring – well, not really by accident, since I’d booked it after hearing from a friend who’d stayed there during Carnevale. Tucked away on Calle del Capeler in San Polo, it’s one of those spots that feels like a secret even though it’s smack in the middle of everything. You hop off the vaporetto at Rialto Mercato – that’s the stop right by the fish market, you know, where the air smells like salty Adriatic catches and fresh bread from the nearby bakeries – and it’s just a quick wander down those narrow calli, dodging the occasional delivery cart. No cars in Venice, obviously, so you’re on foot, but honestly, that’s part of the charm; my suitcase wheels echoed off the stone like they were announcing my arrival. Check-in was a breeze – the owner, this warm Italian guy named Marco (I think?), greeted me with a espresso and a map scribbled with his favorite osterie. The building’s old, like 16th-century old, with these creaky wooden beams that add character without feeling gimmicky.
What really hooked me was the view – the name means “Window on the Butchers,” referencing the old Beccarie market stalls below, and from my room, I could lean out and watch the whole scene unfold. Mornings were magic: the clatter of vendors setting up, the scent of ripening fruit wafting up, and if you’re up early (say, before 8 a.m. when the tourists flood in), it’s like having a private balcony over a living postcard. The rooms aren’t huge – I mean, this is Venice, space is at a premium – but mine had this cozy setup with exposed brick walls, a ridiculously comfortable bed (those linens felt like they were woven from clouds), and a bathroom that, surprisingly, didn’t skimp on hot water even during peak season. Breakfast was simple but spot-on: fresh cornetti, yogurt, and cappuccino served in a little courtyard that’s quiet despite the bustle outside. Oh, and a minor gripe – the Wi-Fi could be spotty in the evenings when everyone’s streaming, but hey, you’re in Venice; put the phone down and go explore. It’s steps from the Rialto Bridge, but far enough that you escape the worst of the selfie-stick crowds, and there’s this tiny bacaro around the corner on Calle della Madonna where locals grab cicchetti after work – I spent an evening there nursing a spritz, feeling like I’d cracked the code to real Venetian life.
You know what, if you’re the type who wants more than just a bed in a tourist trap, this place is gold. It’s got that 4-star polish without the stuffiness, and with a 9.6 rating, it’s no wonder folks rave about it. Sure, summer gets packed and the market noise might wake light sleepers, but that’s authentic Venice for you – embrace it. I’d go back in a heartbeat, maybe in autumn when the fog rolls in and everything feels a bit more mysterious. If you’re planning a trip, book early; spots like this fill up fast.

What a place! Maurizio was an exceptional host who was on hand when we arrived to show us around the apartment, he also provided a complimentary bottle of prosecco which was great to have sitting on the rooftop in the evening.
The apartment was super clean with our own private balcony, great to have a morning coffee, pre evening aperol.
The location was incredible, 2 mins walk to Rialto bridge, super central and lots going on around. Plenty of cicchetti options in the immediate vicinity also!
We couldn't recommend this apartment enough, a little gem !

The roof deck with a view of Venice. The location was quiet but with great proximity to the Rialto bridge and public transport stops on the Grand Canal. The self serve yogurt, fruit and coffee for breakfast was also perfect for me. The room surprised me with how nice it was.
What could be improved: This is probably normal for Venice, and it was communicated, but the stairs are steep to get to the place. There is a chair lift, however. This wasn't a problem at all for me, but I am sharing just for further awareness.John from United States – 3 March 2025 (10/10)
The suite was nicely appointed and cozy. Bed was very comfortable, hot water and water pressure outstanding. Linens were better than most. The weather was not suitable for sitting outdoors, but the balcony in the suite and the property's rooftop are very nice, with a great view from the rooftop terrace.
The continental breakfast was very satisfactory. Fruit, yoghurt, breads and juices – all fresh and delicious. Nespresso pods were available without charge throughout our stay – nice touch! The common area includes a full kitchen and was stocked with snacks throughout our stay.
Communication prior to and throughout our stay was prompt and clear. Mauricio provided excellent recommendations for restaurants in the area (within a 10 minute walk). The location is ideal, just a 3 minute walk to the Mercato Rialto vaporetto stop, and only 5 minutes from the Rialto bridge.
What could be improved: It wasn't a surprise, as it clearly disclosed in the property description, nor was it an issue for us, but there are 50 steps from street level up to the 3rd floor property. The stairs are quite steep and lack a landing or a place to "pause".Holly from United States – 28 February 2025 (10/10)
Convenience and wonderful amenities, gracious host (exceptional)
What could be improved: Many stairs to be aware of to get upstairsAya from Japan – 18 February 2025 (10/10)
Thank you for the wonderful room! Maurizio, the owner, was an amazing host. When I couldn’t find the hotel, he kindly guided me over the phone.
The location, the room, and the view from the rooftop were all perfect—absolutely breathtaking. The hotel has a gorgeous atmosphere that made me feel truly elegant and luxurious.
It’s close to the Rialto Bridge, and the vaporetto stop for Burano Island is within walking distance.
However, please note that the stairs leading to the room are very steep. I was able to carry my 10kg carry-on suitcase down by myself, but it was not easy. If you have a larger or heavier suitcase, carrying it up and down the stairs alone—especially for a woman—could be quite difficult. That being said, if you put in the effort to climb the stairs, you will be rewarded with a truly amazing room waiting for you at the top.
I loved the elegant and peaceful atmosphere of Venice here, and I would definitely stay again when I visit Venice next time!!!

This is a great place to stay in Venice. The location is excellent – close to the Grand Canal and a vaporetto stop at Rialto Market – but it's also quiet and feels tucked away. Our room was very comfortable with a good mattress and nice lighting. The bathroom was clean and modern, and the rest of the space was well-designed. There was even a private balcony! In the shared part of the property there's a kitchen with a good coffee machine and tasty cakes, a sitting area with comfy armchairs, and a roof-terrace with an amazing 360 view of Venice. And finally – our hosts couldn't have been more welcoming. Highly recommended.
What could be improved: Nothing! Everything was great.Justine from Australia – 23 October 2024 (10/10)
The location and rooftop was great.
What could be improved: The steep stairs would be tough for some.Jennifer from United States – 22 October 2024 (9/10)
Property was very clean. Location was perfect
What could be improved: So many stairs!
