Hotel Description
You know, the first time I stumbled upon Liassidi Wellness Suites, I was weaving through those narrow calli in Castello after hopping off the vaporetto at San Zaccaria – honestly, it’s one of those spots where Venice feels a bit more lived-in, away from the San Marco crush. The address is right there on Castello 3335, tucked along a quiet canal that doesn’t get as much foot traffic as, say, the Riva degli Schiavoni just a stone’s throw away. I mean, arriving by water taxi felt almost cinematic, with the evening light bouncing off the water and that faint salty tang in the air mixing with whatever was baking at the little pasticceria around the corner. Check-in was a breeze – the staff were these warm locals who chatted about the best time to hit the Arsenale for its biennale exhibits (pro tip: go early morning in shoulder season to avoid the hordes). No parking drama here, obviously, since it’s Venice, but if you’re lugging bags, they’ll sort a porter without batting an eye. The building itself has that classic Venetian patina – think weathered stone facades and wrought-iron details that creak just a tad when the wind picks up off the lagoon.
What really sets this place apart, though – and I say this as someone who’s crashed in a few Venetian digs – is how it leans into the wellness vibe without feeling gimmicky. It’s a solid 4-star setup with an 8.9 rating that actually holds up; the suites are spacious, with these massive windows overlooking the canal (mine had a view of gondolas gliding by at dusk, which was pure magic, even if the occasional boat horn broke the spell). They’ve got a small spa area – nothing over-the-top, but the sauna and steam room were lifesavers after a day pounding the pavements to places like the Biennale gardens or that hidden gem of a church, San Giorgio dei Greci, just a five-minute stroll away. The beds? Oh man, plush and firm in that perfect Italian way, with linens that smell faintly of lavender – though, fair warning, if you’re a light sleeper, the early-morning delivery boats can rumble a bit around 6 a.m. in high season. Breakfast was a highlight too: fresh cornetti, local cheeses, and coffee that’s strong enough to wake the dead, served in a courtyard that catches the morning sun. I wandered out to grab cicchetti at a nearby bacaro on Salizada San Provolo – it’s the kind of unpretentious spot where locals gossip over spritz, and being so close made it easy to pop back for a siesta. Well, sort of – the rooms are modern but nod to the old palace feel with exposed beams and mosaic floors that are cool underfoot.
All in all, if you’re eyeing Venice but want something that feels authentic without the tourist trap vibe, Liassidi is worth it – especially in quieter months like October when the fog rolls in and everything gets that ethereal hush. It’s not the cheapest (suites can nudge up there in peak summer), and yeah, navigating the stairs with heavy luggage might test you if mobility’s an issue – no elevator that I recall, classic old building quirk. But honestly, waking up to the gentle lap of canal water and knowing you’re steps from real Venetian life? That’s the stuff that makes you book a return trip. I’d go back in a heartbeat for that alone.

The breakfast was a nice assortment of meats, pastries, jams, jellys, coffee/teas, eggs, etc. The concierge ensured that he and the staff were available for our every need. He offered suggestions for restaurants and arranged transportation. The location was nice, away from the busy street but close enough to get transport. Close by shops and restaurants. The Turkish bath was the most relaxing start and end of the day from sightseeing. I would definitely stay here again.
