But honestly, finding Little Canal 19 tucked away on Calle Priuli Ai Cavalletti in Cannaregio felt like stumbling into a quieter corner of the city, away from the San Marco crowds. It’s just a short walk from the station, maybe five minutes if you’re not dodging tourists with maps, and right by this little canal – hence the name, I suppose. The building itself has that classic Venetian charm, with weathered brick and those narrow windows that let in slivers of light reflecting off the water. Check-in was a breeze; the staff were these friendly locals who chatted about the best time to catch the vaporetto to avoid the rush (early morning or late afternoon, by the way, especially in high season when the Grand Canal turns into a floating traffic jam). No parking hassles here, obviously – Venice being car-free and all – but if you’re arriving with heavy bags, they helped lug them up the stairs without a fuss. Well, there are stairs; it’s an old building, so elevators aren’t a given, but it adds to the authentic feel, you know?

What really won me over was how the place balances that cozy, lived-in vibe with solid 4-star comforts. My room overlooked the canal – nothing grand like the Rialto views, but peaceful, with the gentle lap of water against the walls at night that lulled me to sleep (though earplugs might help if you’re sensitive to the occasional boat horn in the mornings). The bed was plush, sheets crisp and cool – a godsend after traipsing around in the humid summer air – and the bathroom had this modern rain shower that felt luxurious without being over-the-top. Breakfast was a highlight: fresh cornetti, cappuccinos made just right, and those little jars of local honey, served in a sunny courtyard where you could hear birds chirping over the distant hum of the city waking up. It’s not huge, so it never felt crowded, even in peak July when Cannaregio gets lively with folks heading to the Jewish Ghetto or popping into spots like the nearby Campo dei Mori for a quick spritz. Oh, and a minor gripe – the Wi-Fi could be spotty in the evenings when everyone’s streaming, but hey, you’re in Venice; put the phone down and wander out to Strada Nova for some cicchetti instead. The neighborhood’s got that real Venetian pulse – quieter than Dorsoduro but with easy access to hidden gems like the Madonna dell’Orto church, just a 10-minute stroll away.

All in all, if you’re after a spot that feels like a home base rather than a tourist trap, Little Canal 19 nails it. With its 8.8 rating, it’s clear others agree – it’s perfect for couples or solo travelers who want to dip into the action without the overwhelm. I mean, Venice can be exhausting with all the bridges and crowds, but coming back here to unwind by the water made the whole trip memorable.   Location is perfect – it is in 5 minutes walk from the railway station and 15 minutes from the bus stop. The kitchen is fully equipped, and there is a dishwasher.
