It’s tucked away on a quiet side canal, just a stone’s throw from the Rialto Bridge, but honestly, it feels worlds apart from the chaos of the market stalls and selfie sticks over there. I arrived by vaporetto from the train station – the No. 1 line drops you off at Ca’ d’Oro, and from there it’s an easy five-minute wander along Strada Nova, dodging the occasional delivery cart and inhaling that salty lagoon air mixed with fresh bread from the nearby bakeries. Check-in was a breeze; the host met me right at the door with a set of keys and a quick rundown – no fancy lobby, just a warm, “Benvenuti!” that made me feel like I was crashing at a friend’s place. The flat itself is on the second floor (well, first by European standards), and stepping inside, you’re hit with these massive windows framing a perfect canal view – gondolas gliding by silently, the water lapping against old stone walls. It’s not one of those overhyped spots; it’s authentic, with creaky wooden floors that whisper stories from centuries ago.

What really sold me was how it balances that old-world charm with stuff that actually makes a stay comfortable, especially if you’re here for more than a quick weekend. The kitchenette’s stocked with basics – a proper espresso maker (thank goodness, because Venice’s café prices can add up), and there’s a comfy living area with plush sofas that beg you to flop down after a day of walking those uneven cobblestones. Bedrooms are cozy, with linens that smell faintly of lavender – I mean, nothing extravagant, but clean and thoughtful. Noise-wise, it’s surprisingly peaceful at night; the canal’s off the main drag, so you get the gentle hum of water taxis instead of the all-night revelry from Campo Santa Margherita. That said, if you’re a light sleeper, pack earplugs for the occasional church bell or early-morning boat horn – Venice doesn’t exactly do silent mode. I loved popping out to the nearby Jewish Ghetto for cicchetti at those hole-in-the-wall spots like Gam Gam, or grabbing groceries from the Rialto fish market for a homemade meal. And parking? Forget it – this is Venice, so leave the car in Mestre and embrace the walking (or water bus) life. In summer, it can get humid inside without AC blasting 24/7, but the cross-breeze from the windows helps, and it’s way better than sweating in a crowded hotel lobby.

All in all, if you’re after a slice of real Venetian living without the gimmicks, this flat’s a gem – rated 8.7 for good reason, I’d say. It’s got that four-star polish but feels more personal, like you’ve unlocked a secret corner of the city. I’ve stayed in fancier places, but this one sticks with me for the mornings sipping coffee while watching the canal wake up. Go in shoulder season, like April or October, when the crowds thin out and you can actually hear your thoughts. You won’t regret it – just watch your step on those slippery bridges after rain.

  Right on canal with gondolas going by. Very spacious and comfortable. Quite central, could walk to most tourist places in 10-15minutes. There were a few minor things needing to be fixed and these were attended to very promptly.

  What could be improved: Kanał przy którym jest apartament jest dość ruchliwy. Nawet nocą pływają motorówki i gondole. Przy delikatnym śnie może to być kłopot. Brak zmywarki i braki w wyposażeniu typu sztućce, szklane kieliszki.
