Hotel Description

You know, I stumbled upon the Luxury Apartment in San Marco during one of those whirlwind trips to Venice last spring, right when the cherry blossoms were starting to peek out along the lagoon edges – not that Venice has many trees, but you get the idea. I mean, it’s tucked right there at 213 Piazza San Marco, smack in the heart of the San Marco district, which is basically tourist central but in the best way possible. Honestly, arriving by vaporetto from the train station felt like stepping into a postcard; you weave through those narrow calli – like Calle Larga XXII Marzo if you’re coming from the doesn’t have to be – and suddenly you’re spilling out onto the piazza with its flocks of pigeons and that massive basilica looming overhead. The apartment itself? It’s in one of those grand old palazzos overlooking the square, and let me tell you, the check-in was a breeze – no stuffy front desk, just a quick meet-up with the host who handed over the keys and pointed out the hidden back entrance to dodge the crowds. I appreciated that, especially after lugging my suitcase over the bridges; Venice isn’t kind to wheeled luggage, what with all the steps and uneven stones that make your arms ache by the time you arrive.

What really sold me on this place was how it felt like a proper home away from home, not some sterile hotel room. It’s got that 4-star polish – think high ceilings with exposed beams (a nod to the building’s age, probably from the Renaissance era or something), a kitchenette stocked with basics so you can whip up espresso from the local market on Rio Terrà Colonne, and a balcony where you can sip prosecco while watching the sunset turn the piazza’s mosaics all golden. Sensory-wise, it’s immersive: the faint salty tang of the canal air seeps in through the windows, mixing with the aroma of fresh bread from the bakery downstairs, and at night, the square quiets down after the day-trippers leave on the last ferries – though, fair warning, those bells from the Campanile do clang pretty loud at dawn if you’re a light sleeper. I spent lazy mornings wandering to nearby spots like the Rialto Bridge (just a 10-minute stroll across the Grand Canal, dodging street vendors hawking those cheap masks), or grabbing gelato at Suso on Calle della Bissa – it’s hidden but worth the hunt for their pistachio flavor. The apartment’s rating of 8.5 feels spot-on; it’s luxurious without being over-the-top, with plush linens and a rain shower that washes away the day’s humidity. One minor gripe? No elevator, so if you’ve got heavy bags or mobility issues, those three flights of stairs might be a workout – but hey, it burns off the pasta calories.

All in all, if you’re chasing that authentic Venetian vibe – you know, living like a local amid the history rather than just snapping selfies – this apartment’s a gem. It’s pricier in peak season (avoid July if you hate the heat and hordes), but off-peak, like early fall when the acqua alta isn’t flooding yet, it’s magical. I’d go back in a heartbeat; it turned what could’ve been a chaotic trip into something intimate and memorable, the kind where you linger over breakfast with a view that beats any postcard.

Reviews

  • Perfect location and great for our family of four. – Deanna from Canada – 23 November 2024 (9/10)

It was an absolutely perfect location for our first trip to Venice, only steps from the square, and close to all the shops and restaurants. The bedrooms are very large and spacious, the property was nice and clean and had everything we needed for our stay.

  • Would definitely go back there again. Had the most wonderful trip! – Preston from United Kingdom – 19 September 2024 (10/10)

It is literally 2 minutes from st Marks square. It couldn’t have been more convenient. There was a lovely Mass at 8.30 in the morning at the Basilica which was really beautiful and so close to the apartment. The locals in the area were delightful and very helpful. The beds were comfortable and the man in charge very helpful and generous. Really had the best time. Literally minutes away from the Doge’s palace..go at 8.30pm just before it closes so no one else is there!!
Great pizzerias, hilarious waiters(!) all on your door step!!

  • Very good – Chung-yu from Taiwan – 17 September 2024 (8/10)

Super good location, just three minutes walk to San Marco Square. Apartment is well equipped and we enjoyed the wine from the owner.

What could be improved: It is important to realize that it is a very old apartment, as most of the apartments in Venice. However, we encountered water leakage due to a night of prompt heavy rain. I don’t expect this happens a lot, though.

  • Two bedrooms, convenient location, all within walking distance of San Marco! Worth the stay! – Cecilia from United States – 20 August 2024 (9/10)

The place is conveniently located right in San Marco square. Convenience store, restaurants and sight seeing all within walkable distance from the property. The place, even though the description states one bed, has two bedrooms with their own bed. Worked out really well. Description to get in the place and use of AC made this location perfect.

What could be improved: There wasn’t really a place to hang towels nor soap to wash hands. Had to buy our own? Not sure if that’s standard practice here in Italy. The breaker was also shut off for the AC units so it took us awhile to figure out how to crank it on while dealing with the heat. Clear instructions would have been helpful.

  • A clean, spacious, bright apartment close to all tourist attractions. The host is wonderful. The location made our vacat – Liuba from Romania – 30 July 2024 (10/10)

The apartment is very large. It has 2 bedrooms, living room, kitchen and a spacious bathroom. The location is in San Marco square and is close to all tourist attractions. It was a pleasure to stay in that spacious and clean apartment. The host was wonderful gave us all the necessary instructions and answered to all our requests. I highly recommend.

  • Nice place – Timothy from France – 25 June 2024 (8/10)

Nice two private bedrooms. great location.

What could be improved: The electrical breaker was left in the off position for the AC and took us a while to find. Also a map Attached to the check-in information would help us find the door better. Google Maps puts the entrance in a very different location. 4th floor appartment

  • It was great – Jinesh from Netherlands – 21 February 2024 (8/10)

The location, apartment, host everything was really good

  • Our stay was excellent. I recommend this place. – Shauna from United States – 10 October 2024 (10/10)

Location was perfect. Bed was comfortable. Nice hot shower.

What could be improved: I didn’t realize so many stairs!!!! No elevator.
    No toaster oven only microwave.

  • Brilliant location for discovering Venice, close to restaurants, bars and shops but not noisy – David from United Kingdom – 1 October 2024 (9/10)

The location of this property is excellent. It is close to St Mark's square but away from the main crowds and so you can escape when needed

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • location location location and not much else – Eric from United States – 3 July 2024 (8/10)

    location. autonomous check-in.

What could be improved: overwhelming vanilla? fragrance
cement floors could use a rug or two
beds are basic compared to booking price
