It’s tucked away on Calle Flangini, right in the heart of this quieter neighborhood, which honestly feels like a breath of fresh air after the San Marco crowds. I mean, Venice in peak summer can be a madhouse, but here you’re just a short stroll from the Jewish Ghetto with its hidden synagogues and that amazing kosher bakery on Campo di Ghetto Nuovo – perfect for grabbing a quick espresso and some zaleti cookies if you’re up early. The building itself is one of those classic Venetian spots, all weathered stone and wrought-iron balconies, and when I first pushed open the door (after a seamless self-check-in with a code – no fussing with reception desks), the view hit me like a postcard come to life. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Grand Canal, with gondolas gliding by and the occasional water taxi horn echoing softly – it’s mesmerizing, especially at dusk when the light turns everything golden. But fair warning, if you’re a light sleeper, those canal sounds might keep you up a bit; it’s not noisy like traffic, more like a gentle lapping rhythm that sort of lulls you eventually.

Inside, it’s got that 3-star charm without trying too hard to be fancy – think exposed wooden beams on the ceiling (a nod to old Venetian architecture) and a kitchenette that’s actually stocked well enough to whip up a simple pasta dinner from ingredients you pick up at the Rialto Market, which is just a 15-minute walk away across the bridge. I loved how spacious it felt for an apartment in Venice; there’s a comfy living area with a pull-out sofa (great if you’re traveling with a friend or kid), and the bathroom’s got those fluffy towels that make you forget you’re not in a five-star spot. Well, almost – the Wi-Fi can be spotty during rainy days, which hit Venice hard in fall, but hey, it forces you to unplug and watch the world from your balcony instead. I spent one morning just sipping coffee there, smelling the faint salty tang from the water and hearing the chatter from locals on Strada Nova below, where you can find unpretentious spots like Osteria Al Portego for cicchetti that won’t break the bank. It’s not perfect; the stairs up to the apartment are steep (no elevator, classic Venice issue), so pack light if you’ve got mobility concerns.

All in all, with its 8.3 rating, this place nails that sweet spot for travelers who want an authentic slice of Venice without the tourist trap vibes – you’re immersed in Cannaregio’s everyday rhythm, close enough to hop on a vaporetto to Piazza San Marco but far from the selfie-stick hordes. I stayed during a quieter shoulder season in October, when the fog rolls in and everything feels a tad mysterious, and it made the whole experience magical. If you’re after views that inspire without the hefty price tag (and you’re okay with a bit of self-sufficiency), book it – you’ll thank me when you’re toasting prosecco on that canal-facing terrace, feeling like you’ve got your own little piece of La Serenissima.

  What could be improved: Not being allowed to know the access code in advance was troublesome for me. What if my phone had died during my long travel from the US. Also, they could use a coffee table in living room. We used a bedroom night stand. (picture of living room included)

  We loved the apartment overlooking the grand Canal and we loved the location. So easy to transport our suitcases when we arrived at the train station.

  Convenient location, a short walk from the train station. The flat is very spacious and has a big terrace with a table and chairs, as well as beautiful views of the Grand Canal from the bedrooms.
  
  What could be improved: The pillows were very thin, hard and uncomfortable, so unfortunately I didn't manage to sleep very well. There is quite a lot of noise in the morning coming from the Grand Canal even when the windows are closed. For the price that we paid, it'd have been nice to find a bottle of water upon arriving at the flat.

  No breakfast included & as far away from St. Mark’s Square as could be! Very close to bus & train station, so good for that, but the foot traffic unbelievable in dogging many, many people with luggage.
  
  What could be improved: Please provide more towels, soap & toilet paper. A coffee maker would be nice. One towel per person is very unacceptable!!! And paper towels would be good too. (Bare necessities provided was terrible!) The beds & couch are uncomfortable too! More pillows would have been helpful. Plus an ice machine would also be welcomed!
