Hotel Description

Oh man, stepping into Maison Venezia | UNA Esperienze for the first time felt like stumbling into one of those hidden Venetian palazzos you only hear about from locals who’ve lived here forever. I mean, it’s tucked away on Ruga Do Pozzi in Cannaregio, which – honestly – is the best neighborhood if you’re trying to dodge the San Marco tourist crush. You know, that area where everyone’s elbowing for a gondola selfie? Yeah, skip that. Here, you’re just a short wander from the Strada Nova, with its little bakeries pumping out fresh focaccia smells in the morning, and you’re practically next door to the old Jewish Ghetto – that spot with the quiet squares and kosher spots that feel worlds away from the Rialto chaos. I arrived by vaporetto from Santa Lucia station (pro tip: grab the No. 1 line and hop off at Ca’ d’Oro; it’s a five-minute stroll from there, but watch your step on those uneven cobblestones, especially if you’ve got luggage). The check-in was a breeze – this older guy at the desk chatted me up about the best time to hit the nearby market (early mornings, before the delivery boats clog the canals), and he even slipped me a map with handwritten notes on where to find decent cicchetti without getting ripped off.

What really got me about this place is how it nails that authentic Venice vibe without trying too hard. It’s a 4-star spot, sure, but it feels more like staying in a restored noble’s house – think exposed wooden beams in the ceilings, those plush velvet armchairs that sort of swallow you up after a day of walking, and rooms with views over narrow alleys where you can hear the distant lap of canal water at night. My room was on the smaller side (well, it’s Venice – everything’s compact), but the bed was ridiculously comfortable, with linens that smelled faintly of lavender, and the bathroom had this massive rain shower that was a godsend after dodging summer humidity. Breakfast is included, and it’s not your generic buffet slop; they do fresh pastries, local cheeses, and eggs however you want ’em, served in a courtyard that catches the morning sun – though fair warning, it can get a bit noisy around 8 a.m. when the neighborhood wakes up with church bells and vendors shouting. Oh, and if you’re here in high season (like July or August), book ahead because it fills up fast with folks who want that quieter side of Venice. One minor gripe? No on-site parking, obviously – this is car-free territory – but they can arrange water taxi pickups if you’re fancy like that.

All in all, if you’re coming to Venice for more than just the postcard shots, this is where you’d want to crash. It’s got that 8.9 rating for a reason – solid value, super friendly staff who actually know the city (one even tipped me off to a hidden wine bar on Fondamenta della Misericordia for sunset aperitivi), and it’s positioned perfectly for exploring on foot without feeling overwhelmed. You know what? Staying here made me feel like I was living the real Venetian life, not just visiting – wandering back after dark through those dimly lit calli, with the faint echo of footsteps and the occasional accordion tune drifting from somewhere. If that’s your jam, honestly, you won’t regret it. (Just pack light – those bridges will test you.)

  • Leigh-anne from Gibraltar – 4 March 2025 (8/10)

Staff were super friendly and knowledgeable. Hotel was very well located. Room was clean and comfortable.

What could be improved: Breakfast room was small and when we arrived full so we had to go to another reception room therefore a bit inconvenient. Would have preferred to have been able to order a cooked alternative to the buffet.

The staff helped us with all we needed: extra amenities or directions of the tourist attractions and transportation

    What could be improved: Nothing.

  • Victoria from France – 24 January 2025 (9/10)

Great location, beautiful, warm, lovely view, nice amenities and work room with tea downstairs. I have been going to Venice for years, and this was by far the nicest hotel in its category.

What could be improved: A little pricey, but like everywhere in Venice.

  • Colette from United Kingdom – 1 January 2025 (9/10)

The hotel was perfect. the location suited our needs as a small family, slightly sat away from the main hustle and bustle, but only a quick 10 minute walk to the rialto bridge, which was beautiful. The reception team were welcoming and helpful. We opted for breakfast. The breakfast was fresh and exactly what was needed ahead of a busy day. The room was perfect, with 2 large windows overlooking the canal. The decor and facilities exceeded my expectations. Would recommend this hotel.
