Marsela Suites-Independent Apartment Overview

I remember stepping off the vaporetto at Piazzale Roma – you know, that bustling spot where the buses and trains dump you right into Venice proper – and weaving my way through Santa Croce to find Marsela Suites. It’s tucked away on Calle Visciga, this narrow little alley that’s honestly a godsend if you’re trying to dodge the tourist hordes swarming the Grand Canal. I mean, Santa Croce isn’t the glitzy San Marco side, but that’s what I loved about it – it’s got that real Venetian vibe, with locals chatting in doorways and the faint smell of espresso drifting from hidden cafes. The building itself is one of those classic, slightly weathered Venetian structures, all faded brick and wrought-iron balconies, and checking in was a breeze; the host sent me a code for the door ahead of time, no fussing with a front desk or anything. Well, except for hauling my suitcase up a flight of stairs – no elevator here, which is pretty standard for these old places, but hey, it keeps things authentic.

Once inside the apartment – and yeah, it’s more like your own little independent pad than a stuffy hotel room – everything just clicked. The space is surprisingly roomy for Venice standards, with high ceilings that make it feel airy, and these big windows letting in that soft, watery light off the nearby Rio di San Stae (it’s just a short stroll away, actually, if you fancy a quiet canal view without the crowds). I cooked up a simple pasta dinner in the kitchenette one night – fully stocked with pots, a fridge, and even a coffee maker that didn’t disappoint – and it felt like I was living there, not just passing through. The bed was comfy, with crisp sheets that smelled freshly laundered, and the bathroom had one of those powerful showers that washes away the day’s humidity. Noise-wise, it’s blissfully quiet at night; you might hear the occasional church bell from Santa Maria dei Frari echoing in the distance, but nothing like the racket near Rialto. Oh, and a minor gripe – the Wi-Fi could be spotty during peak hours, especially in summer when everyone’s streaming, but it was solid enough for planning day trips to Murano or just scrolling through photos.

Honestly, if you’re heading to Venice and want something that feels genuine without breaking the bank – it’s a 3-star spot but punches way above with that 9.8 rating – Marsela is a winner. I stayed there last spring, right before the high season crush, and it made exploring so easy; you’re a quick walk from the train station for escapes to Padua, or you can hop on a traghetto across to Dorsoduro for those hidden art spots. Parking? Forget it – Venice isn’t built for cars, so leave yours on the mainland and embrace the walking (or boating). You know what, it’s the kind of place that reminds you why people fall for this city: not the postcard perfection, but the everyday magic of a quiet corner that lets you breathe. I’d go back in a heartbeat, maybe in the off-season when the fog rolls in and it feels even more like a secret.

Reviews of Marsela Suites-Independent Apartment

  • Superb – Maximino from Spain – 10 July 2025 (9/10)

  • Exceptional – Anna from Poland – 28 June 2025 (10/10)

Excellent location, available kitchenette, comfortable matress, air conditioning

What could be improved: A bit tiny bathroom, but it is ok and has everything needed

  • Great little place in Venice at a great price! – Mark from United States – 26 June 2025 (10/10)

The after-hours check in process was great! Really loved all the clear directions. The unit was nice and clean, exactly as pictured. We would rent again!

What could be improved: The shower was a little cramped, but that is to be expected. Also, the AC unit seems to be tied to the keycard system for power, you need to let it power cycle at first so it can start cooling. Some instructions should be included to say this.
