Tucked away on Calle Loredan, this place isn’t screaming for attention like some of the grand palazzos along the Grand Canal; it’s more like a quiet hideaway in a neighborhood where locals actually live, you know? I mean, arriving late afternoon in spring – before the summer hordes descend – I could hear the distant hum of boats on the lagoon and that faint, briny scent from the nearby canals mixing with fresh bread from a bakery just around the corner on Fondamenta dei Ormesini. Check-in was a breeze, no fuss with long lines; the staff handed over a keycard with a quick tip on the best route to the Jewish Ghetto (it’s literally a five-minute stroll north, past those old synagogues that feel worlds away from the tourist traps).

What really won me over, though, was how the hotel blends that old Venetian charm with stuff that actually makes sense for travelers – like, the rooms aren’t massive, but mine had this high ceiling with exposed beams that made it feel airy, and a bed so comfy I slept through the occasional church bell from Santa Maria dei Miracoli (which, fair warning, chimes early if you’re a light sleeper). It’s a four-star spot, rated around 8.8 last I checked, and it earns it without trying too hard; think modern bathrooms with rain showers that don’t flood the floor (a Venice rarity, let me tell you), and little kitchens in some suites if you want to grab groceries from the market on Strada Nova and skip the overpriced restaurants. Oh, and the Wi-Fi? Solid, even for streaming – I caught up on emails while sipping coffee on the tiny balcony overlooking the calle, watching kids play soccer against the walls. It’s not perfect, mind you; the building’s old, so stairs can be a hike with luggage (no elevator in sight, which is par for the course here), and during high season, you might hear more foot traffic from folks heading to the Fondamente Nove ferries. But that’s Venice – authentic, a bit gritty, and all the better for it.

All in all, if you’re after a stay that feels like you’re part of the city rather than just visiting, this is it. I spent my days wandering to spots like the Madonna dell’Orto church (Tintoretto’s buried there, and it’s stunningly quiet) or grabbing cicchetti at a bacaro nearby, then retreating here for that peaceful vibe. Well, sort of peaceful – there’s always that underlying buzz of the lagoon. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially off-peak when Cannaregio shows its true colors; it’s not the flashy choice, but for real travelers who want to linger without the hassle, it’s spot-on. Just pack light and embrace the alleys – you’ll thank me later.

  The room had a very nice view. Downstairs there are roomy luggage lockers, big enough for large suitcases. The bathroom was well lit and spacious
  
  What could be improved: The digital code at the main entrance – in several situations (e.g. dead phone, no wifi) it may be inconvenient. The lack of a small shelf near the sink where the toothbrushes could be placed without the risk of the liquid soap dripping on them. No sockets near the bed.
