Hotel Description
You know, wandering into San Polo after dodging the crowds around the Rialto Bridge – which, honestly, can feel like a human pinball machine during high season – I stumbled upon Palazzetto San Stin, and it was like finding a quiet corner in the chaos of Venice. Tucked away at San Polo 2396, right off that little campo where locals grab their morning espresso at the unassuming bars (not the tourist traps with overpriced spritzes), this place is a gem if you’re not into the Grand Canal circus. I mean, it’s just a short stroll from the fish market stalls at Rialto, where you can smell the fresh seafood wafting through the air early in the morning, but far enough that the evening bustle fades into a gentle hum by nightfall. No parking worries here, obviously – Venice being Venice, you arrive by vaporetto or on foot, and check-in was a breeze; the host met me right at the door with a warm “benvenuto” and a quick rundown of the neighborhood shortcuts, like cutting through Calle del Campaniel to avoid the main drags.
What really sold me on Palazzetto San Stin was how they’ve breathed new life into it with that 2024 renovation – it’s like they’ve peeled back the layers of an old Venetian palazzo and made it feel fresh without losing the soul. We’re talking exposed brick walls that whisper stories from centuries ago, mixed with sleek modern touches like those rainfall showers that actually have decent water pressure (a rarity in some older spots around here). It sleeps up to five, which is perfect for a family or a group of friends – I stayed with a couple of buddies, and the space didn’t feel cramped at all; there’s a cozy living area with views over the narrow canal below, where you can hear the occasional gondolier singing off-key in the distance. The kitchenette’s a lifesaver too, stocked with basics so you can whip up a simple pasta from market finds, saving you from another pricey restaurant meal. Oh, and the beds? Plush and quiet – no creaky floors keeping you up, though you might catch the faint toll of bells from nearby churches at dawn, which sort of adds to the charm, you know? It’s not flawless; the Wi-Fi can be spotty during peak tourist hours in summer, but hey, that’s Venice for you – forces you to unplug a bit.
All in all, if you’re after a four-star spot with a solid 9 rating that feels authentic rather than cookie-cutter, this is it. It’s the kind of place where you wake up feeling like a local, sipping coffee on the balcony while watching the city stir. Sure, Venice gets mobbed from May to September, so book early and aim for shoulder seasons if you want that serene vibe – but honestly, staying here made my trip memorable, turning what could be overwhelming into something intimate and real. You’d be hard-pressed to find better value in San Polo without sacrificing the magic.

Ralph from United States – 19 March 2025 (9/10)
The space was very cozy. It was on a small plaza or palazetto that had three bar/cafés which made it very convenient to get a drink or a snack. There was also a Conad Tuday small grocery store nearby. The condo is on three floors (Entry-laundry floor/bedrooms floor/living area-kitchen floor). The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed. The staff communication was great and they met us at the St. Toma Waterbus stop and escorted us to the condo.
What could be improved: The address of the condo is confusing if using Google maps. The listing in Booking.com uses San Polo, ####, 30125 Venezia VE, Italy as the address, but it is actually Campo S. Stin, ####, 30125 Venezia VE, Italy.
Also, since it was March, we were trying to not use the AC and keep the heat at a lower setting. However, the mosquitoes were bothering us, so we used the AC the last night because there were no fans to blow them away.
