Evenings were peaceful; the neighborhood quiets down after 10 p.m., save for the occasional splash of a gondola or distant church bells, which sort of lulls you to sleep. One minor gripe: the Wi-Fi can be spotty in the upper rooms during peak season (hello, July crowds), but hey, that’s Venice for you – forces you to unplug and enjoy the view.

All in all, if you’re after a slice of real Venice without the chaos of Piazza San Marco, Palazzina Riello is a gem.
