Hotel Description

You know, I stumbled upon Palazzo Barocci almost by accident during a rainy October trip to Venice – I’d been wandering the labyrinth of San Marco’s back alleys after ditching the overcrowded Piazza for something quieter, and there it was, tucked into Corte Dell’Albero, this elegant old palazzo right on the Grand Canal. Honestly, arriving by vaporetto at the Sant’Angelo stop (just a stone’s throw away) felt like stepping into one of those classic Italian films – the boat rocking gently, the scent of salty lagoon water mixing with espresso from nearby cafés. Check-in was a breeze, even though I showed up a bit early; the staff – all locals, mind you – chatted with me about the best time to hit the Rialto Market (early mornings, before the tourists swarm it) while sorting my room key. No elevators in these historic buildings, so be prepared for some stairs, but they helped with my bags without a fuss. The lobby’s got this cozy, lived-in vibe with velvet armchairs and faded frescoes on the walls – not flashy, but the kind of place that whispers old Venetian secrets.

What really won me over, though, was how the hotel balances that authentic charm with modern comforts without feeling contrived. My room overlooked the canal – well, sort of a side view, but close enough to hear the gondoliers singing faintly at dusk, which was magical, especially with a glass of prosecco from the minibar. The beds are plush, with those crisp linens that make you sink right in after a day of pounding the pavements, and the bathroom had one of those rain showers that actually works (unlike some spots I’ve stayed in Venice where the plumbing’s as unpredictable as the tides). Breakfast is served in a sunny courtyard – think fresh cornetti, cappuccinos strong enough to wake the dead, and that buttery smell wafting through the air – but fair warning, it gets busy around 9 a.m. in peak season, so snag a table early. It’s not perfect; the Wi-Fi can be spotty in the older wings, and if you’re a light sleeper, the occasional boat horn from the canal might jolt you awake. But hey, that’s Venice for you – and it’s steps from hidden gems like the little bacari bars along Rio di San Polo, where you can grab cicchetti without the markup of tourist traps near the Bridge of Sighs.

All in all, if you’re after a spot that feels genuinely Venetian rather than some glossy chain, Palazzo Barocci is a solid choice – I mean, with its 4-star setup and that impressive 8.8 rating, it’s earned its stripes. I left feeling like I’d uncovered a piece of the real city, not just skimmed the surface. Sure, parking’s a non-issue since cars are banned here (pro tip: leave yours in Mestre and train in), and it’s quieter in shoulder seasons like fall when the crowds thin out. Would I go back? Absolutely – next time, maybe for Carnevale, to see those masks swirling past the windows. If Venice is on your list, this place makes the chaos worthwhile.

We booked a Premium room with a view. The room had a beautiful view of the grand canal with a balcony. It was big room and had all the facilities required. It was right near a ferry station so travelling around Venice was so easy. The staff were so helpful and pleasant through out. Had a good breakfast spread. Made us feel like to come back to Venice again.
