Hotel Description
I remember stumbling upon Palazzo Bembo almost by accident during my last trip to Venice – well, not really by accident, since I’d booked it after hearing from a local friend who swears by these hidden palazzo stays over the big chain hotels. It’s tucked right in the heart of San Marco, just a stone’s throw from the Rialto Bridge – you know, that iconic spot where the Grand Canal buzzes with gondolas and vaporettos all day. The address is S. Marco 4785/4793, and honestly, finding it on foot from the Rialto vaporetto stop was a breeze, even with my luggage clattering over those uneven cobblestones. No cars in Venice, obviously, so if you’re coming from the airport, grab a water taxi or the Alilaguna boat – it drops you close enough that you won’t be cursing your packing choices. My first impression? Stepping into that grand entrance felt like walking into a slice of old Venetian nobility; the building’s this restored 15th-century palazzo with frescoed ceilings and these massive wooden beams that creak just a little underfoot, adding to the charm. It’s not flashy or over-the-top – more like a well-kept secret that whispers history instead of shouting it.
What really sold me on the place was how it balances that exclusive vibe with actual comfort – I mean, it’s rated 9.1 for a reason, and as a 4-star spot, it punches above its weight without trying too hard. My room overlooked a quiet side canal (ask for one if you can – the views beat staring at a blank wall any day), and waking up to the soft lapping of water against the stones was pure magic, especially in the early morning before the tourist hordes descend. The beds are plush, with those crisp linens that make you linger, and the bathrooms? Marble everywhere, stocked with toiletries that smell faintly of citrus and herbs – none of that generic hotel soap nonsense. Breakfast is served in this cozy courtyard (weather permitting), with fresh pastries from a nearby bakery on Calle Larga Mazzini and strong espresso that hits just right. Staff were a highlight too – super attentive without hovering; one guy even tipped me off to a lesser-known osteria down Rio Terà de le Colonne for cicchetti that aren’t mobbed by crowds. Oh, and a small heads-up: it’s an old building, so no elevator – stairs can be a workout if you’ve got heavy bags, but they helped with mine no problem. Noise-wise, it’s surprisingly peaceful at night, away from the main drags, though you might hear the occasional bell from San Marco’s Campanile if the wind’s right. During high season, like Carnevale, book early because it fills up fast, and the whole area gets lively – but that’s Venice for you.
All in all, if you’re after a spot that feels authentically Venetian without the tourist trap feel, Palazzo Bembo is it. It’s not the cheapest, but for what you get – that blend of history, location, and little luxuries – it’s worth every euro. I’ve stayed in fancier places that left me cold, but this one? It made me want to extend my trip, wandering those narrow calli nearby or popping over to the Rialto Market for some fresh squid. Perfect for couples or solo travelers who appreciate the details, though families might find the stairs a bit much. Honestly, next time I’m in Venice, I’m heading straight back – it’s like having your own piece of the lagoon city, quirks and all.

The girl on the reception was extremely helpful . She explained us things we didn’t know before and recommended the best way to get the Marco Polo Airport.. Additionally she explained us how to get to the outlet , which we were looking for and organised prepackaged breakfast for us as we were leaving the next day very early.
We don’t remember her name and just wanted to say THANK YOU VERY MUCH for all your help ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ we definitely be back again 🙂Philip from United Kingdom – 28 March 2025 (9/10)

Great location, very friendly staff. The room and hotel itself was very clean and had lovely furnishings. Amazing stay and would 100% recommend.
What could be improved: Nothing, everything was fabulous.Patricia from United States – 7 March 2025 (9/10)
The exceptional help that the employees (Luca, Mattia and Alice) gave us was above what was called for. The room with the windows opening out over the canal was out of this world. What a way to wake up every morning. The room was clean and breakfast was good. Couldn't ask for more.
What could be improved: The room was a little off kilter but I'm assuming that at 500 years old it deserves to be a little uneven.Samantha from United Kingdom – 18 February 2025 (10/10)

It was an amazing stay! Wonderful reception, very good communication, fantastic view, the best possible location ( next to the Rialto bridge, right by the stop), very nice romantic vibe!

Location is perfect – stairs but also a lift so it's easy to access – comfy bed – it's in a very old building and it really feels like an authentic Venice experience
What could be improved: The floor was subsiding slightly which was a shock! Gave the impression you were staying in a boat! But it was perfectly OK it just takes some getting used to.Sophia from Australia – 15 January 2025 (10/10)
Luxurious accommodation in ancient palazzo. Top floor (with lift) with glorious views to the grand canal from the breakfast room and to a sweet narrow canal from our room. Top location!
