Palazzo dei Mori Overview

First Impressions

Walking down Calle Muazzo in the Castello district, you might almost miss Palazzo dei Mori — and honestly, that’s part of its charm. This three-star boutique hotel sits tucked away on a quiet street that feels authentically Venetian, without the tourist crowds that swarm around San Marco just minutes away. The building itself has that weathered elegance you see throughout Venice, where centuries of history seem to seep from every stone. When I first stepped inside, I was struck by how the intimate scale makes you feel like you’re staying in someone’s carefully restored palazzo rather than a typical hotel.

Location & Neighborhood

The Castello district is where Venetians actually live, and you’ll notice the difference immediately. There’s a neighborhood bakery around the corner where locals grab their morning cornetti, and the nearby Campo Santa Maria Formosa buzzes with genuine daily life rather than just tourist activity. You’re still only a ten-minute walk from the Doge’s Palace and St. Mark’s Square, but when you want to escape the crowds, you can retreat to this quieter corner of the city. I mean, couples consistently rate this location a 9.6 out of 10 — and after spending time here, I completely understand why.

The Rooms

The accommodations at Palazzo dei Mori strike that perfect balance between historic character and modern comfort. You know what I appreciated most? The rooms actually feel spacious by Venice standards, where many hotels cram guests into converted closets. The decor respects the building’s heritage without feeling stuffy — think refined Venetian touches rather than over-the-top baroque drama. The bathrooms are well-appointed (a relief after some Venice hotel experiences), and the beds are genuinely comfortable, which matters when you’ve been walking on stone streets all day.

Breakfast Experience

Breakfast here is properly Italian — none of that international buffet nonsense that dilutes the local experience. They offer a solid selection including gluten-free options, which is thoughtful for travelers with dietary restrictions. The morning spread focuses on quality rather than overwhelming variety, with fresh pastries, good coffee, and local specialties that give you a taste of authentic Venetian mornings. It’s served in a charming space that makes you want to linger over your cappuccino rather than rush out to start sightseeing.

Why Guests Love It

With a 9.8 rating, Palazzo dei Mori clearly does something right — and I think it’s the combination of location and atmosphere that wins people over. You get the best of both worlds: easy access to Venice’s major attractions without being trapped in the tourist bubble. The staff understands that travelers want insider knowledge, not just directions to the obvious sights. This isn’t a place that tries to be everything to everyone; instead, it focuses on being an excellent base for exploring Venice while providing a peaceful retreat at the end of long days of wandering. For the price point, you’re getting remarkable value in a city where accommodation costs can quickly spiral out of control.

Venice hotels keep guests near Rialto markets, hidden cicchetti bars, and vaporetto docks.

My husband and I stayed in the superior double room which was beautiful spacious. and spotless.
The breakfast was lovely and plentiful.
The staff could not do enough for you very kind and friendly.
The location was in the quieter part of Venice but close enough to take a short walk to everything.
Overall we highly recommend this hotel and would most certainly stay here again.
Beautiful hotel in a beautiful city .

    What could be improved: Nothing.

  • Olga from Netherlands – 12 March 2025 (9/10)

Amazing hotel! It's quite small, only 6 rooms, and you get truly boutique experience. The rooms are very spacious and beautifully decorated; they even have description of all the materials used in a room. Staff is so friendly and attentive. And the neighbourhood is the best – easy way from the airport by ferry, very few tourists, but 10-15 min walk from all the main attractions. A lot of great cafes and bars in 5min walk.

What could be improved: Breakfast is typical European (pastries and sandwiches), but was ok for us.

  • Daniel from United Kingdom – 9 March 2025 (10/10)

Staff were extremely friendly and helpful, taking the time to point out the local highlights. Breakfast was excellent and the fresh coffee superb. Furnishings were stunning with a merano glass chandelier in our room. Room and bathroom were very clean & the free mini bar was very much appreciated!

What could be improved: Honestly, nothing.

  • David from United Kingdom – 1 March 2025 (10/10)

The location is great, close enough to everything you might want to see, but away from the overcrowding Venice is infamous for. The staff were exceptional, all of the team were so helpful, polite and knowledgeable. The room was large and stylish.

What could be improved: The bathroom was not very big.

Hotel Review: A Perfect Blend of History and Modern Comfort

I recently stayed at this fantastic hotel in Venice, and it exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I arrived, I was warmly greeted and welcomed with a delightful coffee, setting the tone for a truly exceptional stay.

The hotel itself is housed in a stunning historic building, full of charm and character, yet seamlessly equipped with all modern conveniences. The blend of old-world elegance with contemporary comforts made for a unique and luxurious experience.

The rooms were beautifully appointed, offering both style and functionality, and the service throughout my stay was impeccable. Every detail, from the friendly and attentive staff to the well-maintained facilities, contributed to a truly memorable visit.

If you’re looking for a hotel that captures the essence of Venice while providing top-tier comfort, this is the place to stay. Highly recommended!

This place is so elegant- you’re basically staying in a beautiful palace. The room was amazing, large and comfortable. There are complimentary tea-making facilities with pastries and fruit in the common area. Wonderfully quiet and serene. The staff are always helpful without being intrusive, and kindly offered me some suggestions for restaurants and activities. The location is convenient if you arrive by Alilaguna boat from the airport. It’s only a 5 or 6 minute walk from the Ospedale stop. The area is quiet and not very touristy, but with some excellent artisan shops and nice reasonably priced restaurants.

What could be improved: I was a little disappointed with the shower, which was quite small considering the size of the room; however, the bathroom was cozy and warm, and immaculately clean.
The location meant quite a lot of walking to get to the tourist attractions and museums. I’m pretty sure I’d still be wandering around lost in the labyrinth if it hadn’t been for Google Maps and GPS!😅 Also be aware that the breakfast is basically continental; slices of ham and cheese and boiled eggs are available but don’t expect an English breakfast. That said, the pastry and croissants are incredible!

An absolute gem in Venice! The hotel couldn’t be more perfect for a weekend escape. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable, the rooms are nice and cozy and a lot bigger than most hotels in Venice, even the room cleaning was the most thorough we had in years. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a perfect stay in Venice!

  • Daniela from Czech Republic – 16 February 2025 (10/10)

The hotel itself I found to be a piece of art and history. Great location, very clean, kind and helpful staff, especially Sabrina. Many thanks for making our stay memorable.

  • Clark from United Kingdom – 16 February 2025 (10/10)

We felt the Pallazo dei Mori was an excellent hotel, tucked away in the Castello district, five minutes walk from the Ospedale vaporetto station or 15 minutes walk from the Doge's palace, if you don't get lost. The staff could not have been more welcoming and volunteered many tips on how to get the best out of the visit. The hotel itself, though small, is beautiful and we would certainly use it again.

What could be improved: Nothing to add.

Location is super cute and you can walk to everything. The suite is sizable, stylish and had everything I needed.
