Hotel Description
I remember stumbling upon Palazzo Lion Morosini almost by accident last spring – well, not really by accident, but you know how Venice works, with its maze of alleys that make every turn feel like a discovery. I’d just hopped off the vaporetto at Ca’ d’Oro, dodging the usual crowd of day-trippers hauling suitcases over the bridges, and made my way through Cannaregio’s quieter backstreets. The address is Sotoportego del Remer 5700, tucked away in this historic sestiere that’s honestly one of my favorite parts of the city – less flashy than San Marco, but packed with that authentic Venetian vibe, like the smell of fresh bread from the nearby panificio on Strada Nova or the faint salty tang of the canal water lapping against old stone walls. Check-in isn’t actually at the palazzo itself; you do that at Locanda Ai Santi Apostoli, just a short walk away along the Rio di San Felice. It’s a bit quirky, I mean, they hand you the keys there and point you back, but it adds to the charm – like you’re unlocking a secret hideaway in a 15th-century building (which it is, by the way, with those Morosini family crests still etched into the facade). My room overlooked a narrow rio, and the first thing that hit me was the quiet – no blaring tourist chatter, just the occasional church bell from Santa Sofia or the soft hum of a passing gondola.
What really sets this place apart, though, is how it feels like stepping back in time without sacrificing the basics you need after a day of wandering. The rooms are on the cozy side – 3-star, after all, so don’t expect sprawling suites – but they’re done up with these heavy velvet curtains and antique wooden beams that creak a little underfoot, giving off that musty, lived-in scent of old Venice (not in a bad way, more like history seeping through the walls). I had a simple breakfast setup with coffee that was surprisingly strong, and the Wi-Fi held up fine for checking ferry times. It’s right by the Rialto Market, you know, where locals haggle over fresh squid and artichokes in the mornings – I grabbed some fruit there one day and ate it on the steps, watching the world go by. Noise-wise, it’s peaceful at night, especially off-season when Cannaregio empties out after dark, but summers can get a tad lively with folks spilling out from the nearby cicchetti bars on Fondamenta della Misericordia. Oh, and parking? Forget it – this is Venice, so leave the car on the mainland and embrace the water taxis or your own two feet. Honestly, the only minor gripe was the bathroom; it’s compact, sort of like fitting into a puzzle piece, but spotless and with hot water that didn’t quit on me.
All in all, if you’re the type who wants to feel like you’re living in Venice rather than just visiting – dodging the San Marco crowds, maybe catching a quiet aperitivo at a local spot like Al Remer right downstairs – this is your spot. It’s got that solid 8 rating for a reason: comfortable, characterful, and way more affordable than those glitzy spots over the bridge. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in shoulder season when the fog rolls in and the whole place feels like your own private palazzo. Just pack light – those stairs are no joke.

Great location, very close to the Rialti Bridge. Friendly staff, they were very responsive and willing to help us. We needed a late check in, so we received a link to an electronic key and also phone guidance when we arrived.
