PALAZZO MALIPIERO Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Palazzo Malipiero in the Castello district, you immediately get that “real Venice” feeling — you know, the kind where you’re not dodging crowds of tourists every five seconds. This three-star palazzo sits right in the heart of Venice, and honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering. The building itself has that weathered Venetian charm that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled onto a movie set, though in the best possible way.

Location & Getting Around

Here’s what I love about this spot — couples absolutely rave about the location, giving it a 9.3 rating, and I can see why. You’re tucked away in Castello, which means you get the authentic neighborhood vibe without being completely isolated from the main attractions. The walk to St. Mark’s Square takes maybe 10 minutes if you don’t get lost in the maze of canals (which, let’s be honest, happens to everyone). What’s really nice is that you can actually hear yourself think here in the evenings, unlike some of the more touristy areas where the crowds never seem to thin out.

The Room Experience

The rooms at Palazzo Malipiero definitely feel like you’re staying in a piece of Venetian history. My room had those classic high ceilings and original details that you just can’t fake — though don’t expect modern amenities at every turn. The furnishings lean traditional, which works perfectly with the palazzo’s character. I mean, you’re not here for a sterile hotel experience anyway, right? The windows in many rooms offer glimpses of the canal or charming side streets, and there’s something pretty magical about waking up to the sound of water lapping against ancient stones.

Daily Life & Practicalities

One thing that struck me about this place is how it feels more like staying in someone’s elegant family home than a typical hotel. The staff genuinely seems to care about making your stay work, and they’re full of those insider tips that can make or break a Venice trip. Parking isn’t really a thing here (this is Venice, after all), but they’ll point you toward Piazzale Roma if you’re driving in. The breakfast setup is simple but does the job — nothing fancy, but you’ll fuel up just fine before heading out to explore.

Why Guests Love It

What keeps people coming back to Palazzo Malipiero is that perfect balance of location and authenticity. You’re staying somewhere that feels genuinely Venetian without paying premium prices for the privilege. The 7.6 overall rating reflects what you’d expect — it’s not going to blow your mind with cutting-edge amenities, but it delivers exactly what it promises. Couples especially seem to get it, probably because there’s something undeniably romantic about wandering back to your own little corner of this incredible city after a day of exploring. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re actually living in Venice for a few days, not just visiting it.

Savvy travelers reserve a hotel in Venice before acqua alta alerts to snag suites with private fondaco docks.

Reviews of PALAZZO MALIPIERO

  • Christopher from United States – 21 January 2025 (8/10)

Great historic property in a terrific location. We had everything we needed for a memorable New Year’s celebration in Venice.

  • Davide from United States – 14 October 2024 (9/10)

The Palazzo Malipiero is a great place to stay right in the heart of Venice. It's got a really great location, just off a square with a small canal with gondoliers just outside the window. It's an easy walk to St Mark's Square or the Rialto Bridge, or even Ospedale on the north side. It was really convenient to explore from here. The apartment is spacious, with everything you need.

  • Victoria from Australia – 27 September 2024 (9/10)

Walking over the private bridge into the accomodation was fantastic. The room was authentically decorated and comfortable. So close to everything. We walk everywhere.

  • Mark from United Kingdom – 21 September 2024 (7/10)

It was in a great location and peaceful, despite bars and cafes nearby. The whole building was delightful in its antiquity.

What could be improved: Communication was poor. We did not get arrival details until after we had arrived and I called twice before these were received. By this stage we had already struggled to work out how to get to property from station.
There were loose and cracked tiles on floor of bathroom and toilet seat was loose.
There was a large hole in window (letting mosquitoes in) which we reported on our first morning but nothing was done to repair this or update us.

  • Lawrence from United States – 6 September 2024 (8/10)

    Location was excellent

  • Megan from United Kingdom – 6 August 2024 (8/10)

Very close to all main amenities, spacious and comfortable

What could be improved: It was hard to find at first. Thankfully the host did send us pictures of how to get there after struggling to find it at first!

  • Maria from Cayman Islands – 23 July 2024 (9/10)

5min walk from Piazza San Marco, and supermarket. Big and clean apartment. Nice A/C . Comfy bed. Easy check in/out

  • Betty from Hong Kong – 8 June 2024 (8/10)

The location was relatively central, away from the most touristy areas but still quick walk to s mark’s square. The apartment was spacious and cute with its private bridge, felt like a true Venetian.

What could be improved: Google map links to a different location, took a while to navigate there for the first time. Shower was little bit narrow.

  • Patri from United States – 5 June 2023 (8/10)

It was in a hood location. Relatively easy to locate.

What could be improved: The property does not have air conditioning. It does stay pretty cool inside, but there is a fan that helps. I didn’t see any iron or ironing board and there is not an extra blanket for the sofa bed.

  • Chrissy from New Zealand – 10 May 2023 (8/10)

What a fantastic location. So central to everything. A very spacious apartment.

What could be improved: There was no door on the bedroom.
