Hotel Description
You know, I stumbled upon Palazzo Veneziano kind of by accident last spring – I was wandering through Cannaregio after getting off the vaporetto at Ferrovia, and there it was, tucked right along the Rio di San Felice canal. It’s not in the super-touristy crush of San Marco, which is a relief if you’ve ever tried navigating those crowds with luggage in tow. Honestly, being in Cannaregio feels more like real Venice – you’re steps from the old Jewish Ghetto with its hidden synagogues and that killer bakery on Calle del Forno where locals grab their morning cornetti. The hotel itself is this restored 16th-century palazzo, all faded grandeur with those tall, arched windows overlooking the water. I remember arriving a bit frazzled from the train station (it’s only a 10-minute walk, but watch out for the uneven cobblestones if you’re rolling a suitcase), and the check-in was a breeze – the staff were these warm Italians who didn’t rush you, even offered a quick espresso while they sorted the keys. No parking drama here, obviously, since it’s Venice, but they can hook you up with water taxi tips if you’re coming from Marco Polo airport.
What really hooked me was how the place blends that old-world charm with stuff that actually makes a stay comfortable. My room – well, suite, I guess – had this massive bed with crisp linens that smelled faintly of lavender (they must use some fancy detergent), and the view straight out to the canal was mesmerizing, especially at dusk when the gondolas glide by and you hear the soft lap of water against the stones. It’s not perfect, mind you – the Wi-Fi can be spotty in the lower floors during peak hours, like when everyone’s streaming after dinner – but upstairs on the roof terrace, it’s pure magic. I spent an evening up there with a glass of prosecco, watching the sun set over the rooftops toward the Grand Canal; it’s got these comfy loungers and potted plants that rustle in the breeze, and it’s surprisingly quiet for being so central. Breakfast is solid too – fresh pastries, cheeses, and that strong Italian coffee in a sunny courtyard, though it gets busy around 9 a.m. in high season (May to September, when Venice is packed). Oh, and the bathrooms are modern, with rain showers that feel like a spa after a day of walking – no complaints there, except maybe the occasional canal smell if the wind shifts, but that’s Venice for you.
All in all, if you’re looking for a spot that feels authentic without skimping on comfort, Palazzo Veneziano is a gem. It’s got that 4-star polish with an 8.9 rating that holds up – I’ve stayed in pricier places in Dorsoduro that didn’t deliver half as much vibe. Go in shoulder season, like April or October, to avoid the hordes and snag a better rate; you’ll thank me when you’re sipping Aperol on that terrace, feeling like you’ve got Venice all to yourself. Just pack light – those stairs to the roof are worth it, but they’re no joke after a long day.

It exceeded all expectations: lovely bathrooms, comfy beds, fully equipped kitchen, beautiful rooms and, of course, the hot tub 🤩 conveniently located close to the railway station – a huge bonus for us dragging suitcases in Venice.

Fab location and very comfy beds loved the terraces and hot tub
Alessia met us on arrival and explained the key system
What could be improved: There are only 4 bedrooms and marketed at 5 – although 2 sofa beds in the lounge. As a group booking we wanted 5 bedrooms and were disappointed that this was not communicated until after arrival and couldn’t change plans. We made do with the sofa beds but this was not what we booked even though the place is lovely.Susan from United Kingdom – 10 February 2024 (9/10)
Palazzo Veneziano was perfect for our family get together (4 couples). Spacious, clean, incredibly comfy beds, hot tub, roof terrace, quiet area. Couldn't have asked for more. Alessia was lovely, very helpful and friendly at both check in and check out. She provided us with several links for restaurants and sights. The apartment is close to the Guglie Bridge en route into the central area of Venice (walking). The bridge itself can be very busy with people coming/going to bus and train stations but when you turn off up towards the apartment it is immediately very quiet and peaceful. Perfect apartment, perfect location 😊

Palazzo Veneziano exceeded all my expectations. Our apartments were spacious, clean and inviting with access to the rooftop terrace. Located within walking distance of the train station and all major sites in Venice! My window view was of the canal next to the building and there were plenty of cafes for lunch, dinner and breakfast. Mornings spent on the rooftop terrace were quiet and peaceful. WiFi was excellent and our host was gracious and available for any questions we had. All in all a great place to stay in Venice!
