Hotel Description
You know, I stumbled upon Patch of Eden almost by accident last spring, when I was dodging the tourist crush in San Marco and decided to hop on the vaporetto over to Giudecca – that long, skinny island across the lagoon that’s more about locals and artists than selfie sticks. It’s tucked away on Fondamenta Rio Sant’Eufemia, right along this quiet little canal where the water laps gently against weathered brick walls, and honestly, arriving by boat felt like slipping into a secret Venice that most visitors miss. I mean, no cars here obviously – Venice being Venice – so I dragged my suitcase off the dock at the Palanca stop, which is just a short stroll away, and there it was: this charming four-star spot with a name that actually fits, like a little green oasis in the middle of all that stone and water. The exterior’s got that classic Venetian vibe, with ivy climbing up the facade and these wrought-iron balconies overlooking the rio – but step inside, and it’s surprisingly modern, with a lobby that smells faintly of fresh espresso and whatever herbs they’re growing in the courtyard garden out back.
What really won me over, though, was how it balances that old-world charm with stuff that actually makes a trip easier. My room – well, suite, I guess, though it was cozy in that European way where space is at a premium – had these huge windows framing views of the canal and, on clear days, a glimpse of the Dorsoduro skyline across the water. The bed was plush, with linens that felt like they were ironed by angels, and the bathroom had one of those rain showers that make you linger way too long in the morning. Breakfast is included, and it’s no joke: think flaky cornetti, local cheeses from the Rialto market (which is just a quick vaporetto ride away), and coffee strong enough to power you through a day of wandering. The staff? Super friendly, like the concierge who tipped me off to avoiding the crowds by catching the early boat to San Giorgio Maggiore for sunrise – a total game-changer. That said, it’s not perfect; the Wi-Fi can get spotty in the evenings when everyone’s streaming, and if you’re here in high season (June through August), the nearby traghetto traffic picks up, adding a bit of horn-honking noise – nothing earplugs can’t fix, but worth noting if you’re a light sleeper. Oh, and check-in was a breeze; I arrived mid-afternoon, and they had my room ready with a chilled prosecco waiting – small touch, but it sets the tone.
All in all, if you’re the type who wants Venice without the constant buzz – you know, those packed calles around the Rialto where you can’t even hear yourself think – Patch of Eden is a smart pick. It’s got an 8.8 rating for a reason, blending that peaceful Giudecca seclusion with easy access: you’re maybe 10 minutes by vaporetto to the Accademia Bridge or Zattere promenade for gelato strolls. I spent my evenings wandering the island’s back paths, popping into hidden spots like the Redentore church or that little osteria on Fondamenta delle Convertite for cicchetti and spritz. Sure, it’s a tad pricier than some mainland options, but for the serenity – especially in shoulder seasons like April or October when the fog rolls in and everything feels magical – it’s worth it. I’d go back in a heartbeat, maybe even splurge on a canal-view room next time. If you’re planning a trip, just remember to buy a vaporetto pass; it’ll save you a fortune and make getting around feel like part of the adventure.

Excellent location, very good sized bedrooms and great advice from Francesca.
What could be improved: Although there is lovely outside space, there is nowhere to sit. The balcony is lovely but petite.Exceptional – Fernando from Spain – 16 August 2023 (10/10)
Patch of Eden is, at the same time, well connected to all other main places in Venice but also independent enough to be quiet in a city crowded by tourists.
The apartment is large, surrounded by green spaces, silent at night and luminous during the day. There are also several places to have a nice meal.
Then, Francesca and David were superb from beginning to end!
To sum up, a great option if you are visiting Venice!Great place to stay for families – Erkin from Germany – 22 July 2023 (10/10)
