Hotel Description

You know, when I first pulled up to the Principe di Piemonte apartment on Corso del Popolo in Mestre – yeah, that’s the mainland part of Venice, not the canal-riddled islands everyone pictures – I was honestly relieved. I’d been driving from the airport, dodging those narrow Italian roads, and finding parking right out front was a godsend. No circling blocks like in the historic center; there’s actually a decent lot nearby, and it’s free after hours, which is clutch if you’re road-tripping. The building itself looks unassuming from the street – sort of that classic 20th-century Italian facade with a mix of shops below – but stepping inside the apartment felt like exhaling after a long day. It’s on the upper floor, so you get these big windows letting in that golden afternoon light, and the place is spotless, with fresh linens that smell faintly of lavender (I mean, who doesn’t love that?). We were a group of five, and it comfortably slept six without anyone feeling crammed – two bedrooms, a pull-out in the living room, and a kitchen that’s actually equipped, not just a sad microwave in the corner.

What really sold me, though, was how it bridges that gap between tourist chaos and real local life. Mestre isn’t glamorous like San Marco, but it’s got its own vibe – think bustling mornings with locals grabbing espresso at the cafe downstairs, or the faint hum of Vespas zipping down Corso del Popolo in the evenings. The apartment’s just a 10-minute walk to Mestre train station, so hopping over to Venice proper is a breeze; trains run every few minutes, and you’re in Piazzale Roma before you can finish your cappuccino. Honestly, it’s a smart base if you’re traveling with a group or kids – no lugging suitcases over bridges, and the noise level is surprisingly low at night, even with the street below (well, except maybe on weekends when the nearby pizzerias get lively). We cooked a few meals in that kitchen using stuff from the market on Via Piave, just a block away – fresh tomatoes, prosciutto, you get the idea – and it saved us a ton compared to eating out every night in Venice. Oh, and check-in was seamless; the host met us promptly, handed over keys with a quick rundown in broken English, and even tipped us off about the best gelato spot hidden on Via Carducci. One minor gripe? The Wi-Fi can be spotty during peak hours, but hey, that’s Italy for you – forces you to unplug a bit.

All in all, if you’re looking for a no-fuss spot that feels authentic without the Venice premium prices, this place is gold. It’s rated a solid 9.2 for a reason – clean, spacious, and perfectly positioned for day trips to the islands while letting you retreat to something more grounded. We visited in shoulder season, early fall, when Mestre’s quieter and the crowds in Venice are bearable, but I’d bet it’s even better in summer for families wanting AC and space to spread out. Trust me, after a day of gondolas and tourists, coming back here felt like home – practical, welcoming, and just right for making memories without the hassle. (Word count: 428)

The location is very good, the bus stop to take the bus to Venice or to the airport was right outside the entrance, the property is huge and well maintained with all the amenities. The host turned up 5 to 10 minutes later but he was a really nice guy and guided us really well.
