raggio di sole dietro piazza San Marco Overview

First Impressions

Walking down Salizada Zorzi in the Castello district, you might almost miss raggio di sole dietro piazza San Marco — and honestly, that’s part of its charm. This three-star gem sits tucked away on a quiet street that feels authentically Venetian, where you’ll hear more Italian than tourist chatter echoing off the ancient walls. The entrance is understated in that effortlessly elegant way that Venice does so well, and you immediately sense you’ve found something special without the crowds.

The Heart of Venice

Here’s what really gets me about this place — you’re literally steps from Piazza San Marco, but you’d never know it from the peaceful atmosphere. I mean, walk five minutes and you’re at the Basilica, but turn the corner toward your hotel and suddenly it’s like you’ve discovered a secret Venice that most tourists never see. The location score of 10.0 isn’t just marketing speak; couples consistently rate it 9.9 because you can slip away from the madness whenever you need to breathe. You know what I love? You can grab morning coffee at a local bar where the barista actually remembers your order.

Your Room and Comfort

The accommodations here strike that perfect balance between authentic Venetian character and modern comfort. Each room feels thoughtfully designed rather than cookie-cutter corporate, with those charming architectural details that remind you you’re sleeping in a city that’s been welcoming travelers for centuries. The beds are genuinely comfortable — something you can’t always count on in historic Venice properties — and the bathrooms work properly, which honestly matters more than you’d think when you’re dealing with centuries-old plumbing systems.

Exploring from Your Doorstep

What I really appreciate is how this location lets you experience Venice like a temporary local. The Castello neighborhood has this wonderful residential feel, with tiny squares where kids actually play football and locals hang laundry between buildings. You’re close enough to all the major sights that you never feel isolated, but far enough from the main tourist arteries that you can duck into authentic bacari for cicchetti without fighting through selfie sticks. The vaporetto stops are easily walkable when you want to explore the outer islands, but you’ll probably find yourself just wandering the maze of streets around the hotel.

Why Guests Love It

This isn’t the kind of place that tries to wow you with flashy amenities or over-the-top service — it wins you over with something more valuable in Venice: authenticity and location. The 8.5 rating reflects what actually matters to travelers: you sleep well, you’re perfectly positioned to explore, and you feel like you’re experiencing the real Venice rather than some sanitized tourist version. Couples especially seem to get it, probably because there’s something inherently romantic about having your own quiet corner in one of the world’s most magical cities, then being able to step out for evening aperitivos just around the corner from where Casanova once walked.

Savvy travelers reserve a hotel in Venice before acqua alta alerts to snag suites with private fondaco docks.

  • Tracey from Australia – 15 October 2024 (9/10)

The host was great, very communicative and very quick to respond to our questions.
The apartment is in an excelled location, not far from San Marco square and the vaporetto stop.

There are some great restaurants close by as well.

If you are in Venice, make sure you do the Secret Itineraries tour of Doges Palace. we really enjoyed the look into the other side of the palace and its history. .

What could be improved: nothing at all.
Be aware there are 2 flights of stairs to get to the apartment and you will need to carry your luggage

Very good location, really in the city center, with easy access to everything. The apartment is nice, clean, welcoming, you find in almost everything you need, Anita is always willing to help and I highly recommend this location for those who want to get a taste of Venice life. Thank you, Anita!

What could be improved: Minor things. The space around the opened couch is a little bit narrow but that's Venice. And the couch is really big and comfortable.
Maybe a coffee machine would be great, but you can drink the excellent italian coffee just around the corner and all over the place so no big deal.

  • Iwona from Ireland – 9 July 2023 (9/10)

Clean comfortable apartment fully equipped. Comfortable bed and sofa.A quiet place at night and in the morning. The apartment is a 30-minute walk from St. Luci train station.Venice is the pearl of Italian cities.A gondola ride provides a lot of impressions from local carriers operating these water vehicles. You can learn interesting historical information about Venice.Thank you, Anita, for the warm welcome in the apartment for all the information she gives to us about how to get around Venice and what worth is seeing. The city is beautifully full of small shops, cafes, restaurants, craft shops, antiques, and bakeries. Beautiful museums, basilicas, churches, squares, delicious and not expensive food. To avoid standing in queues, it's best to get up early in the morning. Please remember. If you want to be allowed into a place how basilicas or churches, take care of appropriate clothing covering the shoulders and shorts to a minimum of the knees.

What could be improved: It was a funny situation. I don't know if I should write it. We probably remember it for the rest of our lives. Please watch out for the mean seagulls. One of them dived in flight and in a second ate my son's entire ice cream and half a waffle😆😆😆.

  • Paul from Australia – 29 April 2023 (9/10)

  • Sarah from United Kingdom – 8 April 2023 (9/10)

Exceptional property for up to 4 people! The central location was a huge benefit – 3 or 4 minutes walk to Piazzo San Marco and 8 minutes to Rialto – and meant we were surrounded by restaurant options. The flat itself was delightful – well equipped and furnishings of an high standard , and wonderfully clean. (One thing to note – the apartment is on the first floor and accessed by a fairly steep staircase). We will certainly return, many thanks to our lovely host.
