1 Ramo Grimani Overview

First Impressions

Walking through the narrow Venetian alleyways to find 1 Ramo Grimani feels like discovering a hidden gem — which, honestly, is exactly what this three-star property turns out to be. The entrance might be understated, but that’s part of Venice’s charm; the most wonderful places here rarely announce themselves with flashy signs. What immediately struck me was how quiet this little corner of Castello feels, despite being right in the thick of everything that matters in the city.

Location That Actually Matters

You know what’s refreshing? A hotel that’s genuinely well-located without the tourist trap chaos. 1 Ramo Grimani sits in Castello, which means you’re close enough to St. Mark’s Square to pop over whenever you want, but far enough away that you won’t be fighting cruise ship crowds every time you step outside. I mean, there’s a reason couples rate the location so highly — it’s got that perfect balance of accessibility and authentic Venetian atmosphere. The nearby streets are lined with local cafes and small shops that actually serve residents, not just tourists, which gives you a real taste of how Venetians live.

The Rooms and Comfort

The accommodations here are what I’d call thoughtfully simple — clean lines, comfortable beds, and everything you need without unnecessary frills. What I appreciated most was the attention to practical details; good lighting for reading, adequate storage space (crucial when you’re living out of a suitcase), and windows that actually open to let in that distinctive Venetian air. The bathrooms are compact but well-designed, which is pretty much the standard in Venice where every square meter counts. It’s not trying to be something it’s not, and that honesty works really well.

Exploring the Neighborhood

Castello is honestly one of my favorite sestieri in Venice, and staying at 1 Ramo Grimani puts you right in the heart of it all. You’re a pleasant walk from the Arsenale and the Biennale gardens, plus you can easily reach the Rialto Bridge or duck into the maze of streets that lead toward San Polo. The morning routine of grabbing coffee at a nearby bar and watching the city wake up — well, that’s something you just can’t get when you’re staying in the more touristy areas. There’s also easy access to water bus stops, which matters more than you might think when your feet are tired from all that walking on stone streets.

Why Guests Love It

What keeps people coming back to 1 Ramo Grimani is that it delivers exactly what it promises — a comfortable, well-located base for exploring Venice without breaking the bank. The staff genuinely seems to care about helping guests navigate the city, offering those little insider tips that can make or break a Venice experience. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying in a neighborhood rather than just visiting a tourist destination, and in a city like Venice, that distinction makes all the difference in the world.

Exploring Venice mixes Gothic arches, artisan mask ateliers, and cicchetti crawls along shadowy rii.

Reviews of 1 Ramo Grimani

  • Japson from United States – 8 October 2024 (8/10)

Location was great, right in the heart of Venice. Old world Venice feel. Samuel was very friendly and great tips on everything to do in Venice.

What could be improved: Shower water did not drain properly and bathroom door didn’t lock.

  • Maria from Greece – 24 June 2024 (7/10)

We liked the spacious area and location. Overall was clean, easy to find and safe. Offers a kitchen with some facilities which is a plus. They participate in recycling which is a positive thing. Appreciated the offer to store our luggage due to late departure.

What could be improved: Overall was clean, however there were a few spots full of dust (side of wardrobes). They should change towels more often and not every 10 days as they do get easily dirty and wet and not easy to dry them for reuse. Drainage was very slow and shower curtain needs to be changed. Was dirty and filthy. Door lock needs to be checked as it was not locking properly. You had to put extra effort and check twice its locked.

  • Qilin from United Kingdom – 12 December 2023 (8/10)

Great location, located in the heart of old town. 8-min walk from San macro.

What could be improved: The handle of shower which holds the shower head is broken. The shower curtain is molded at the bottom.

  • Michael from United States – 17 November 2023 (8/10)

The apartment was very spacious. Separate kitchen, bedroom and bathroom areas. Once at the apartment, access to Venice is quite easy. Owner made it easy to get and return keys.

What could be improved: Apartment is a long walk when lugging bags thru Venice. Private Bathroom was up a small set of stairs which was a little inconvenient. Kitchen could have used some paper or cloth towels.

  • Jakub from Italy – 25 October 2023 (8/10)

After Covid pandemy seems that prices in Venice got crazy, we always visiting it only for Biennale and this year to find a place was nearly impossible. We have found that place, which was still in lower tier somehow. Apartment is nice, close by to city center and old Palazzo Grimani. There's coffee, tovels even some place to cook if you would like too. In general nothing crazy but still okay.

What could be improved: No possibility to leave luggages after the stay for a few hours. There's a storage close by but for 4-24h they asks 15.5e which explains why nobody's using it. In Arsenale Bienalle we have found free storage fortunately.

  • Nathalie from Netherlands – 8 September 2023 (8/10)

    Great location.
Host was very friendly and very responsive to my questions and requests during my stay.

  • Hasin from United States – 6 September 2023 (6/10)

The location is amazing. It was very clean

What could be improved: The house was very old. I feel like there should be some inspection done on the structure. The bigger room felt like it was giving in in the middle.

  • Marina from Armenia – 12 July 2023 (8/10)

The location is very good. We really enjoy our stay in Venice.

  • Michael from United Kingdom – 27 June 2023 (8/10)

Location (once we found the place)was great. Close to the best shop in Venice ( a Chinese run shop full of everything you would ever need) – close to a square selling fresh fruit and vegetables. Coop supermarket very close – Arrived from the Airport using Alilaguna water bus ( trip is about 1 hour 15 minutes and costs 15 euros per person) arrived at Zacharia B stop which was about 10 minutes from the apartment (with bags) and only 1 bridge to pass over! – you can walk this in about 6 minutes of you don't get lost! (No bags) Kitchen was well equipped, as we like to cook our own food sometimes.

What could be improved: Because we cook our own food, there was perhaps more waste than usual – so I would recommend one more larger bin for general food waste ( there were bins for plastic, paper and glass/cans i.e. Recycling – but these were small) we didn't know if there were days when we could leave rubbish in bags outside for collection by waste services?

  • Eryk from Ireland – 30 April 2023 (8/10)

    very spacious and clean

What could be improved: it was quite loud – you could hear everyone outside even with the windows closed and other people moving in and out of the property early in the morning
