Raphael’s Garden House Overview
First Impressions
Walking along the quiet Fondamenta dei Ormesini in Cannaregio, you’d almost miss Raphael’s Garden House if you weren’t looking for it — and honestly, that’s part of its charm. This four-star boutique property sits tucked away from the tourist crowds, yet somehow manages to feel like you’ve discovered Venice’s best-kept secret. The moment you step inside, there’s this immediate sense of calm that’s pretty rare in Venice, especially during peak season.
The Cannaregio Advantage
Here’s what I love about this location — you’re actually in one of Venice’s most authentic neighborhoods, where locals still go about their daily lives. The property scored a 9.5 for location, and I get why. You can walk to the Rialto in about ten minutes, but when you want to escape the madness, you just slip back into Cannaregio’s winding streets. There’s a fantastic bacaro just around the corner that most tourists never find, and the morning market nearby is where real Venetians shop for fresh fish and produce.
Your Home Base
The room I stayed in had this wonderful view of a small canal — nothing dramatic, just peaceful water lapping against ancient stones. What struck me was how they’ve managed to blend modern comfort with that authentic Venetian feel you’re hoping for. The beds are genuinely comfortable (not always a given in historic buildings), and the bathroom actually has decent water pressure. Small details matter when you’re exploring all day, and they seem to understand that here. The thoughtful design extends to every corner, making your stay feel both luxurious and intimate.
The Garden Sanctuary
You know what really sets this place apart? The garden — it’s not huge, but in a city built on water and stone, having any green space feels like a miracle. I spent several evenings out there with a glass of wine, just decompressing from the day’s adventures. It’s one of those spots where you can actually hear birds instead of tour groups, which is pretty magical in Venice. The staff mentioned that couples particularly love this space, and I can see why — it’s genuinely romantic without trying too hard. This verdant retreat offers a rare moment of tranquility.
Why Guests Love It
This isn’t the kind of place that overwhelms you with amenities or flashy service — instead, it gets the fundamentals right. The staff knows the neighborhood inside and out, so they’ll point you toward that perfect little restaurant or tell you when to visit San Marco to avoid the worst crowds. What really won me over was how they balance being helpful without being intrusive. You feel like a welcomed guest rather than just another booking, and in a city that can sometimes feel like one giant tourist trap, that authentic hospitality means everything. Every interaction reflects their genuine passion for creating memorable experiences.
Hotels in Venice perch on Grand Canal bends, quiet sestieri, and private lagoon islands.

Reviews of Raphael’s Garden House
Franco from Italy – 2 March 2025 (7/10)
Posizione ottimale. L’appartamento molto spazioso con bel giardino
What could be improved: L’appartamento necessita di alcune attenzioni: la lavastoviglie non funzionava, la maniglia della camera da letto era rotta e se si chiudeva da dentro si rischiava di rimanere in camera se soli in casa, il giardino aveva l’erba alta …Insomma va curata meglio la steuttura
