Residenza Rivo Alto Overview

First Impressions

Walking down the narrow Calle della Bissa in San Marco, you might almost miss Residenza Rivo Alto if you’re not paying attention — and honestly, that’s part of its charm. This three-star property sits right in the thick of things, tucked away on a quiet street that somehow manages to feel peaceful despite being steps from St. Mark’s Square. The entrance has that understated Venetian elegance you hope for, nothing flashy but definitely authentic.

Location Magic

I mean, you really can’t ask for a better spot in Venice. The location score of 9.3 isn’t just a number — it actually makes sense when you’re standing there. You’re literally a two-minute walk from the Rialto Bridge in one direction and maybe five minutes to St. Mark’s in the other. What I love is that couples seem to get it (they rate the location 9.3 for romantic trips), probably because you can duck back to your room between all the sightseeing without feeling like you’re trekking across the city.

The Neighborhood Feel

This part of San Marco has that perfect balance — touristy enough that everything’s open and lively, but the actual street feels more like where locals might cut through. You’ll find little cafés nearby where you can grab a proper espresso, and there’s a decent cicchetti bar just around the corner that doesn’t feel like a tourist trap. The narrow alleys here actually lead somewhere useful, which isn’t always the case in Venice, trust me. The neighborhood truly captures the essence of authentic Venetian living.

What to Expect Inside

Look, it’s a three-star place, so don’t expect marble everything, but the rooms are clean and comfortable with that slightly old-world Venice vibe. The building itself has character — you know, creaky floors and walls that have stories — but everything works properly. The staff actually knows the area well, which is surprisingly helpful when you’re trying to figure out which vaporetto stop makes the most sense or where to find a decent late dinner. Each detail reflects the property’s commitment to authentic comfort.

Why Guests Love It

Honestly, it comes down to location without the premium price tag. You’re staying in the real heart of Venice, not some distant neighborhood where you spend half your day commuting to see anything interesting. The fact that couples keep rating it so highly tells you something — when you’re trying to be romantic in Venice, the last thing you want is to waste time getting lost or walking forever just to reach the good stuff. Plus, there’s something nice about having a quiet street to come home to after dealing with the crowds at the major sights all day. This apartment-style accommodation offers the perfect balance for discerning travelers.

    Canal view

  • Alexander from Austria – 17 August 2024 (8/10)

Since the property is private, it has more some sort of privateness- but the owner allowed us to store our luggage before and after our stay. No elevator, shower door was broken- bed a bit hard, pillows not comfortable at all – but since we where only staying for one night it was fine ! Location is great, 2 minutes from Rialto but very quiet at night! No breakfast and no filtered water provided

What could be improved: The pillows- I must say the one pillow we got was kind of hard

  • Cameron from Ireland – 8 June 2024 (6/10)

Perfect location. Staff was very helpful.

What could be improved: WiFi wasn’t working. After asking staff to not knock on the doors in the morning to clean they still did.

  • Stretz from United States – 15 April 2024 (8/10)

Loved being right on the canal. The room was small, but plenty for 2 people! Could be loud with the windows open but closing the windows eliminated most of the sound very well. Would stay here again! We could store our bags and retrieve them at our convience too! Very friendly and helpful staff as well. Thank you!

What could be improved: A little confusing to find using Google maps, but looking at street signs too, we found it quickly

  • Sonya from United States – 18 January 2024 (7/10)

Amazing location, unique old fashioned vibe.

What could be improved: A little shabby.

  • Thestranger from United Kingdom – 8 September 2023 (8/10)

The room size was great and the host waited for us as we arrived late and also helped me find the location as I got lost. The location where is it gives you access to the most important places to see in Venice. They allowed us for late checkin at 12 o'clock which i appreciated that. Also is clean.

What could be improved: The charge of 50 euro which was not my fault but our flight was delayed due to traffic congestion. They do not offer breakfast, they do not have nets for the windows to prevent mosquitos.

  • Wild from Australia – 30 June 2023 (8/10)

What could be improved: Difficult to find! No fridge in room. Aircon not working

  • Ahamed from Sri Lanka – 10 June 2023 (7/10)

    location. EXCEPTIONAL LOCATION IN VENICE.

receptionist Marcella is very kind and so nice and helpful.

they do housekeeping everyday and replaced the towels as well.

What could be improved: price, price was bit expensive but it is Venice, you can’t hope for less

  • Ashley from Germany – 2 April 2023 (8/10)

it was perfectly, centrally, located for our trip purposes. the lady who checked us in was super friendly and sweet and helpful. the price was just right.

What could be improved: it’s very dated. I saw some reviews that said it was dirty, but it’s very clean, it’s just older so it looks like it’s dirty.
