Hotel Description
You know, I stumbled upon the San Marco Elegante Panoramico Esclusivo 2 bagni almost by accident last spring, right when Venice was shaking off the winter chill but before the summer crowds turned the calles into a human pinball machine. Tucked away at 3209 San Marco in the heart of the San Marco sestiere – yeah, that’s the district with all the glitz and history – it’s just a short wander from Piazza San Marco, maybe five minutes if you’re not stopping to gawk at the Campanile or dodge pigeons. I mean, arriving by vaporetto at the San Marco stop felt like stepping into a postcard, but honestly, lugging my suitcase over those little bridges was a workout – no elevators in sight for the initial haul, though once you’re inside, it’s all smooth sailing. The building itself has that classic Venetian vibe, with weathered stone facades and those tall, arched windows that let in the golden afternoon light, filtering through like something out of a Renaissance painting. Check-in was a breeze; the staff – a mix of locals who know every hidden gelateria in the neighborhood – handed over the keys with a quick chat about the best time to hit the nearby Campo Santo Stefano for a quiet spritz, away from the tourist throngs.
What really sets this place apart, though, is how it lives up to its name – elegant and panoramic, with that exclusive feel like you’ve got a private slice of Venice all to yourself. My room (well, more like a spacious suite with those two bathrooms, which was a godsend after a day of traipsing around) overlooked the rooftops and a sliver of canal, where you could hear the gentle lap of water against the gondolas below, especially at dusk when the city quiets down a bit. The decor’s a smart blend of old-world charm – think velvet headboards and marble floors that feel cool underfoot – mixed with modern touches like a sleek espresso machine and Wi-Fi that actually works without dropping every two minutes. I appreciated the little things, like the fresh linens that smelled faintly of lavender (probably from some local laundry secret), and the fact that it’s on a quieter side street off Calle Larga XXII Marzo, so you’re not jolted awake by early-morning delivery boats or rowdy groups heading to Harry’s Bar. That said, it’s not perfect – the air conditioning can be a tad noisy if you’re a light sleeper, and during high season (June through August), the whole area buzzes with energy that might feel overwhelming if you’re not into the hustle. But hey, that’s Venice for you; it’s part of the charm, sort of like how the occasional high water in November adds a splash of adventure.
All in all, if you’re after a 4-star spot with an 8.9 rating that feels authentic rather than cookie-cutter, this is it – especially for couples or small families who want room to spread out without breaking the bank. I’d go back in a heartbeat, maybe in the off-season when you can snag a better rate and enjoy those panoramic views without elbowing through tour groups. Trust me, waking up to the distant chime of church bells and that salty Adriatic breeze drifting in makes the minor quirks totally worth it. Just pack light, and don’t forget to explore the nearby Rialto Market for fresh produce – it’s a quick 10-minute stroll that turns breakfast into a mini adventure.

What could be improved: The property was quite dark, one of the bedrooms didn’t have a main light at all, but it was all still manageable.Superb – Jean from United States – 15 October 2024 (9/10)

A week in Venice with the family – Julian from Bulgaria – 6 April 2024 (8/10)
Excellent location, walking distance to Academia Bridge. Near to all other important sites in Venice. Very near to the Sant' Angelo and San Samuele stops of both Vaporetto and Alilaguna Express from the Airport. The apartment is located in a quiet alley outside of the usual tourist havoc of Venice. The indoor facilities of the building are well maintained.
What could be improved: The internet is shaky but this is an all-Italian problem. The apartment is a little bit too dark and even opening the windows there is not much light going through but if you want to be within the historical city this is part of the picture. A decent wine glasses will be a good addition.
