Hotel Description

You know, wandering into the San Marco Luxury Loft with Terrace felt like stumbling upon a hidden gem right in the heart of Venice’s chaos – and I mean that in the best way. I arrived by vaporetto from the train station, dodging the usual throngs of tourists spilling out from Piazza San Marco, which is literally just a five-minute stroll away on Calle Larga XXII Marzo. The address, 1711 San Marco, puts you smack in the sestiere’s bustling core, but honestly, once you step through that unassuming door, it’s like the city’s frenzy melts away. I remember checking in during a drizzly afternoon in late spring – the staff were these warm locals who chatted about the best time to hit the nearby Campo Santo Stefano for a quiet espresso (avoid midday when the tour groups swarm). No elevators here, mind you, just a narrow staircase that winds up to the loft, but they helped with my bags without batting an eye. And that terrace? Oh man, it’s the star – overlooking a sliver of canal where you can hear the gentle lap of water against stone and catch whiffs of that briny, slightly murky Venice scent, especially at dusk when the bells from St. Mark’s start tolling.

What really sets this place apart, though, is how it blends old-school Venetian charm with just enough modern luxury to make you feel pampered without it being over-the-top. The loft itself is spacious, with these exposed wooden beams that creak a bit underfoot – sort of like the city’s own history whispering to you – and plush bedding that had me sleeping like a baby despite the occasional late-night gondola serenades drifting up from below. I loved the kitchenette; I grabbed some prosciutto and cheese from the little market on Calle della Mandola (it’s tucked away, locals swear by it for fresh stuff), and whipped up breakfast on the terrace while watching the morning light hit the rooftops. It’s rated a solid 9.8 for a reason – everything’s spotless, the Wi-Fi’s reliable even in peak season when the networks get jammed, and there’s this thoughtful touch like fresh fruit waiting on arrival. Well, if I’m being honest, the only minor gripe is the noise from early-morning deliveries to the nearby shops; it starts around 7 a.m., but earplugs sorted that out quick. And parking? Forget it – this is Venice, so you’re better off ditching the car in Mestre and embracing the water life.

All in all, if you’re after a spot that feels authentically Venetian yet luxurious enough to unwind after dodging pigeons in the piazza, this loft is a winner. I’ve stayed in fancier hotels around here, but none captured that intimate, lived-in vibe quite like this one. Book it for shoulder season if you can – April or October – when the crowds thin out and you can actually linger on that terrace without the summer heat turning it into a sauna. Trust me, you’ll leave feeling like you’ve got a little piece of Venice all to yourself.

  • Felicia from Romania – 19 August 2024 (10/10)

The location is in the heart of the city but away from the hustle and bustle and the apartment is absolutely amazing. Very spacious, clean, with a big terrace and all the facilities for a quality stay. Highly recommended.

  • James from Australia – 29 November 2024 (10/10)

This is a gem in Venice. Almost hidden down a short alley, the green door opens up to a delightful apartment. Spacious and very well appointed. We were greeted at the property by our host's representative who explained everything and answered any questions for our 3 night stay. This apartment is in a great location with easy walking access to San Marco Piazza and also Rialto Bridge. Great value for money and a really amazing place to stay in Venice.

  • Rich from Canada – 11 October 2024 (10/10)

The location, the host, the terrace, the peace

What could be improved: The mosquitoes

  • Susan from Australia – 7 October 2024 (10/10)

The location and size of the accommodation was excellent. So close to San Marco Piazza, yet private too. The apartment was clean and neat with large rooms.

What could be improved: The only difficult thing was the 3-4 flights of stairs to the apartment, but we were well aware of them when we booked and by being on the top floor, it gave us access to the roof top terrace. So the stairs actually provided a bonus.

  • Carmen from Malta – 7 October 2024 (10/10)

Everything was to our liking. The location is really central. Modern apartment with all the amenities. Instant communication with owner. A couple of flights of stairs to navigate. Highly recommended.

  • Anthony from New Zealand – 21 September 2024 (9/10)

The size, how it was set out, great kitchen, the TV and channels available. Lovely outdoor area although didn’t get to use as too busy visiting sights and weather not great. The little treats e.g crackers, cakes. Felt welcome.
Very bright, fresh and smelt lovely.
Simon, the owner very helpful and prompt in answering our questions.

What could be improved: Found the pillows hard.
No filter in the coffee peculator so didn’t use.
No clothes rack for clothes you don’t want to tumble dry.
The stairs, had 2 decent sized bags and it was a good haul up to the loft. Well worth the effort though.

  • Hamish from United Kingdom – 2 August 2024 (10/10)

The location was fantastic, close to all the places we had to attend.

What could be improved: Nothing. It was perfect.

  • Steve from United Kingdom – 3 July 2024 (9/10)

Sam Marco Loft is situated in the heart of Venice. Located almost equi-distance from St Marks Square and the Rialto Bridge makes it ideal for everything.

The accommodation is spacious and very well equipped. It was particularly hot when we visited, but the air conditioning worked well (and quietly..!) to create a cool oasis.

Lots of info in the apartment, and Cecilia was an excellent at getting everything sorted for us.

We loved it and would highly recommend. 👍

What could be improved: It is a loft – but be aware the stairs are numerous and steep especially with heavy luggage.

  • Alcira from United States – 27 June 2024 (9/10)

    Decoration The space. The terrace

What could be improved: Everything was very good. We had trouble navigating to get to the house. GPS worked sporadically

  • Nigel from United Kingdom – 20 June 2024 (10/10)

The apartment was spotlessly clean and very well equipped. The location is perfect in the San Marco district – close to the main attractions and a very short walk from the nearest Vaporetto. Communication with the host has been exceptional since we booked. Check in was smooth and as planned and he even sorted out our exemption codes for the new tourist entry requirements. The terrace is fantastic for breakfast or a glass of Italian wine in the evening!! We would not hesitate to recommend it. We could even leave our luggage in the building after check out. Thanks Simon & Cecilia.

What could be improved: There is nothing to dislike!!!
