First Impressions

Walking up to Sina Centurion Palace, you immediately understand why this five-star property commands such respect in Venice. The building itself is a restored 14th-century palazzo that sits right on the Grand Canal in Dorsoduro — honestly, the location doesn’t get much better than this. I mean, you’re literally watching water taxis and gondolas drift past your window while sipping morning coffee. The entrance feels appropriately grand without being intimidating, and the staff genuinely seems to know what they’re doing rather than just going through luxury hotel motions.

Location & Neighborhood

Dorsoduro is actually my favorite sestiere in Venice, and the Sina Centurion Palace sits in what I’d argue is the sweet spot of the district. You’re a quick walk from the Peggy Guggenheim Collection and the Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute, but far enough from San Marco that you escape the worst tourist crowds. The couples rating of 9.7 for location makes complete sense — there’s something undeniably romantic about this particular stretch of canal, especially in the evening when the light hits the water just right. Plus, you’ve got easy access to some excellent bacari (those little Venetian wine bars) that tourists often miss.

The Rooms

The rooms here strike that perfect balance between historical character and modern luxury that’s surprisingly hard to find in Venice. Those “very comfy beds” that guests rave about? They’re not exaggerating — I actually slept better here than I have at some much more expensive places. The canal-view rooms are obviously the prize, but even the courtyard-facing ones have charm with their period details and thoughtful design. What I appreciated most was how they’ve managed to incorporate modern amenities without making the space feel like a generic luxury box.

Breakfast & Dining

The breakfast buffet is well-executed without being overwhelming — you know how some luxury hotels go overboard and it becomes this chaotic spread? Not here. They keep it refined but substantial, with quality Italian pastries, proper coffee (this matters more in Italy than anywhere else), and enough variety to keep you happy for multiple mornings. The dining room overlooks the canal, which honestly makes even mediocre food taste better, but fortunately the quality matches the setting.

  I had the most delightful stay at Sina Centurion in Venice. It is a wonderful hotel that offers the feeling of a classic renaissance palace combined with modern and elegant interior design. It has spectacular views of the Grand Canal and a lovely courtyard. The staff is also very friendly and helpful.

  What could be improved: There was a boy one gourmet restaurant no casual dining at night. The room was small. The shower was inside the bath. Very dangerous. I’m 72 years old. It’s very inconvenient. If I wanted privacy I had to totally close the curtains and be in a dark room
