I mean, I arrived in the late afternoon during shoulder season – early October, when the crowds thin out a bit but the light’s still golden – and the staff greeted me like an old friend, no fuss with paperwork, just a quick chat about the best nearby osteria for cicchetti. Walking inside, there’s this subtle scent of polished wood and fresh flowers, mixed with that faint, briny canal air that reminds you you’re in Venice, not some generic hotel lobby. It’s not huge, which is a plus – feels intimate, like staying in a noble’s house rather than a chain.

What really sold me were the rooms; mine overlooked the Grand Canal, with these heavy velvet drapes you could sink into and a bed that was ridiculously comfortable after a day of wandering. Well, sort of – the rooms vary in size, and if you get one of the smaller ones (like I did at first, before they upgraded me), it might feel a tad cozy for two people with luggage, but hey, that’s Venice real estate for you. Breakfast is served in this sunny room with canal views, nothing over-the-top, just solid espresso, fresh pastries, and those little omelets made to order – perfect fuel before heading out to explore. I loved how it’s positioned; you’re a quick walk over the Accademia Bridge to Dorsoduro for quieter galleries, or you can stroll to the Rialto Market in about 10 minutes, dodging the tourists on Rio Terà Sant’Andrea. Noise-wise, it’s surprisingly peaceful at night – the canal laps gently, no car horns obviously, though you might hear the occasional boat horn in the morning rush. And practical stuff: no parking headaches since, well, it’s Venice, but they can arrange transfers from Piazzale Roma if you’re coming by train. One minor gripe? The Wi-Fi can be spotty in the thicker-walled rooms – I had to perch by the window for Zoom calls – but that’s forgivable in a place this historic.

All in all, if you’re looking for that authentic Venice vibe without the mega-hotel crowds, this is it. It’s not the cheapest – rates spike in summer, obviously – but for a 4-star spot with a 9 rating, it delivers on charm and location. I left feeling like I’d actually lived a slice of Venetian life, you know? Skip the tourist traps and book here; grab a spritz on their terrace at sunset, watch the world float by, and thank me later. (Just remember to pack light – those stairs to the upper floors are no joke after a long flight.)

  Fabulous hotel location on the main canal . Our room was upgraded to a suite with a view over the canal and was stunning , with an amazingly comfortable bed.

  Beautiful hotel in perfect location. The airport waterbus stop is a few steps from the hotel and all the sights we wanted to see were easily accessible. Comfortable rooms. Extremely helpful staff- from the lovely lady who sorted out my coffee in the morning to the wonderful concierge who arranged our trip to Murano.
