Hotel Description
You know, I stumbled upon Suite House while wandering through Venice last spring, and honestly, it was one of those finds that makes you feel like you’ve cracked the code on staying in this floating city without breaking the bank or drowning in tourists. Tucked away in the Cannaregio district – that’s the northern sestiere, away from the San Marco madness – at Sestiere Cannaregio 4343, it’s just a short stroll from the Strada Nova, where locals grab their morning espresso and cicchetti at those unpretentious bars. I arrived via vaporetto from the train station (line 1 or 2 drops you at Ca’ d’Oro, about a five-minute walk), lugging my suitcase over a couple of bridges – yeah, Venice’s classic workout – and the place popped up in this quiet calle, with the canal water gently lapping against the stone walls. The air had that briny, slightly musty scent you get in the older parts of town, mixed with fresh bread from a nearby bakery. Check-in was a breeze; the host was this chatty Venetian guy who handed over the keys with a map scribbled with his favorite spots – no fuss, no long lines like at those big hotels near the Rialto.
What really sold me on Suite House, though, was how it felt like a proper home base in a city that can overwhelm you with its history and hustle. These are new apartments – well, “new” meaning renovated with that modern edge, but still nodding to the old Venetian vibes with exposed beams and those tall windows letting in the golden afternoon light. My suite had a little kitchenette (stocked with basics, which saved me on eating out every meal), super reliable Wi-Fi that didn’t glitch even when I was streaming shows after a long day of exploring, and a bathroom that was spotless, with one of those rain showers that feels luxurious after pounding the pavements. It’s rated 8.7 for a reason – four stars without the stuffiness. I mean, the beds were comfy, the AC hummed quietly (a godsend in humid May), but fair warning, the walls are thin enough that you might hear the occasional gondola serenade or early-morning boat traffic if your window faces the canal. Oh, and no elevator – it’s an old building, so pack light or be ready for stairs. But that authenticity? It’s what makes it special. I spent evenings on the tiny balcony, sipping cheap prosecco from the corner market, watching neighbors chat across the water – sort of like eavesdropping on real Venetian life, away from the Piazza San Marco crowds.
All in all, if you’re heading to Venice and want something that feels lived-in rather than tourist-trap sterile, Suite House is a solid pick, especially off-season when Cannaregio quiets down and you can actually hear yourself think. It’s close enough to hop on a vaporetto to the islands like Murano (Fondamente Nove stop is a 10-minute walk), or wander to the Jewish Ghetto for some history and killer falafel spots that locals swear by. Parking? Forget it – this is island Venice, so leave the car on the mainland. But for the price and that insider feel, I’d go back in a heartbeat. Just remember to book ahead in summer; it fills up fast with folks who’ve figured out it’s a gem.

What could be improved: No view and no paper towels or dish towelVanajadevi from United Kingdom – 5 September 2024 (8/10)
Property was really clean .
What could be improved: It’s only good for two people. I booked it for 4 people but good thing, my son wasn’t there.it’s only got one double bed and sofa bed . It wasn’t comfortable sleeping on sofa bed and also not regular cleaner or it’s nice to have a broomstick at least.Craig from United Kingdom – 18 August 2024 (9/10)
Location was fantastic. The host was great sent loads of information for things to do. Apartment was lovely. We had a place to put the cases on the last day. It was about a twenty minute walk to St Marks Square and about ten minutes to Rialto bridge. This could have been done quicker but I would say that’s ok with the crowds. Would definitely book again.
What could be improved: We had an issue getting access to the apartment an email with the detail were sent but I hadn’t received it. But it was sorted out and we were ok with that.Claire from United Kingdom – 31 May 2024 (9/10)
Perfect location for airport transfers and central Venice.
What could be improved: We were expecting a balcony, but the photos are not necessarily the apartment you get. Ours didn’t have a canal view which was disappointing.Wendy from Australia – 30 September 2024 (9/10)
The view of the canal is superb occasional gondola goes past
What could be improved: Dirty old lounge, but everything else is newly renovated.Thomas from United States – 19 May 2024 (7/10)
Good bathroom, great hot water and water pressure. Great location
What could be improved: Bed was okay. Dark apartment. Hard to find, and directions were not send to me before arrival.Anton from Slovakia – 17 March 2024 (9/10)
Excellent location just 5 min from Rialto Bridge, amazing canal view. Apartment was newly reconstructed. It has a stylish and modern look. Host provided useful information before our stay and replied fast to our additional questions. Smooth check-in.
What could be improved: Apartment size is rather small, limited space for 4 member family. I missed larger wardrobe.Mark from Australia – 29 September 2024 (9/10)
