Hotel Description
I remember stumbling upon Suite Veronica & Maison Laguna almost by accident during one of those drizzly autumn trips to Venice – you know, when the crowds thin out a bit after summer, and the canals start smelling more like damp stone than sunscreen. It’s tucked away in San Polo, right on Sestiere San Polo 2594, which is this charming, labyrinthine neighborhood that’s way less touristy than San Marco but still super close to the action. I mean, you’re just a short wander from the Rialto Bridge – maybe five minutes if you don’t get lost in the alleys, which, honestly, is half the fun. Getting there was a breeze; I hopped off the vaporetto at San Silvestro stop and followed the narrow calle, dodging a few locals hauling groceries. No parking hassles, obviously – this is Venice, after all – but if you’re arriving with luggage, grab a water taxi to avoid the bridges. Check-in was smooth, even though I showed up a little early; the staff – this friendly couple who seemed like they’d lived in the sestiere forever – chatted about the best hidden osterias nearby, like that tiny spot on Campo San Polo where you can get cicchetti without the markup.
What really won me over, though, was how the place feels like a secret slice of old Venice, split between the Suite Veronica side (more modern, with these sleek apartments that have full kitchens – perfect if you’re tired of eating out every meal) and Maison Laguna, which leans into that romantic, historic vibe with exposed beams and views over the rio. My room – well, suite, actually – had this soft, creaky wooden floor that made me feel like I was staying in someone’s family home, not some impersonal hotel. The bed was ridiculously comfy, with linens that smelled faintly of lavender, and the bathroom had one of those rain showers that make you linger way too long. Mornings were quiet, except for the occasional church bell or gondolier humming below – it’s not dead silent like the outskirts, but way better than the bustle around Piazza San Marco. Oh, and pro tip: if you’re a light sleeper, ask for a room facing the courtyard; the canal side can get a bit echoey at night with late-night boats. They don’t have a full restaurant, which is a minor bummer if you’re jet-lagged and lazy, but there’s a cute breakfast setup with fresh cornetti and coffee that hits the spot. I spent an afternoon just lounging on the terrace, watching the water traffic – it’s those little moments that make Venice magical, you know?
All in all, with its 4-star setup and that impressive 9.4 rating, this place is a gem for anyone who wants authentic Venice without the over-the-top luxury price tag. It’s not perfect – the Wi-Fi can be spotty in the older wings, sort of like the city’s own quirky infrastructure – but that’s part of the charm. If you’re planning a trip in shoulder season, book here; you’ll feel like a local, weaving through San Polo’s backstreets to spots like the Frari church or the market stalls at Rialto. Honestly, it made my stay feel less like tourism and more like living the dream – and isn’t that what Venice is all about?

Great location close to restaurants and a grocery store, easy to walk to tourist locations, but not right in the middle of the crowds. Comfortable apartment with plenty of space. The host was accommodating when we arrived a little early and even made our last day even better by allowing us to check out late because there wasn’t a booking arriving for that night. It helped alleviate a lot of hassle and stress for us. We would stay here again for future visits to Venice.

Great location. Convenient to grocery store & short walk to water bus. Short walk from Piazzale Roma. Modern. Comfortable beds and nice hot water. Was quiet
What could be improved: Took us a bit to find hearing thermostat, but then all good. Was on second residential floor – so couple flights of stairsChao from United States – 19 November 2024 (10/10)
A perfect location against the backdrop of a gorgeous church. Walk to all attractions and restaurants. Spacious 2-bedroom unit with tasteful finishing. What a lovely stay! Veronica was super friendly and proactive in communications with respect to check-in, transportation, restaurant recommendations, etc.

Wonderful location. Beautifully decorated apartment with excellent views. Fully equipped kitchen. Host Veronica met us and had lots of good info. Responded to messages promptly.
What could be improved: Two flights of stairs which was not a problem except when managing luggage.Julie from Australia – 16 October 2024 (10/10)
Spacious and modern interior – very clean and comfortable. The hosts were very responsive. The first accomodation of many where we stayed this trip which had a map of the city and restaurant cards available in the apartment. Great location – easy and interesting walking distance to all the sights. Great restaurants nearby.

Great for longer stays and 3-4 people. The apartment was well appointed for cooking. Gondolas will pick you up and drop you off right outside by the church. We enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it to others.
What could be improved: Nothing to dislike about this place.Michael from United States – 20 September 2024 (10/10)

What could be improved: We had no issues with the apartmentSue from Canada – 12 September 2024 (10/10)
Our host, Veronica, reached out early and offered friendly advice and options for getting to the apartment. She gave us a tour of the apartment, which was very clean and tidy, beautifully staged and stocked with snacks and tea. Veronica even shared lots of links for recommended restaurants and attractions. The location and the view of the Frari was spectacular.
Michelle from United States – 10 September 2024 (9/10)
The apartment is not in a touristy neighborhood but not far from what you want to see. Waterbus stop is nearby. Lots of shops and restaurants in the neighborhood. The apartment seems recently updated and very modern. Comfortable beds.
What could be improved: There are no AC units in the bedrooms only one unit in the hall.
