Suites Torre Dell’Orologio Overview
You know, the first time I stumbled upon Suites Torre Dell’Orologio, I was weaving through the throngs in San Marco, dodging those persistent pigeon flocks in the piazza, and honestly, it felt like I’d stepped into one of those old Venetian postcards. The address is San Marco 202/A, but check-in’s at San Marco 848 – which is just a quick jaunt down Calle Larga San Marco, past those little mask shops that smell faintly of leather and glue. I mean, it’s right smack in the heart of things, literally shadowing the Clock Tower itself, so if you’re into that iconic Venice vibe without the hassle of lugging bags across bridges, this is gold. I arrived mid-afternoon in high season – think July, when the square buzzes like a beehive – and the staff at check-in were all smiles, sorting keys and maps in this cozy lobby that feels more like a friend’s living room than a hotel desk. No big fuss, just a smooth handover and directions to my suite, which was up a narrow staircase (elevator’s there if you need it, but watch your head on those low beams – classic old building quirk).
What really won me over, though, was how the place balances that historic charm with actual comfort – it’s a 4-star setup, rated around 8.3, and yeah, it earns it. My suite overlooked a quiet courtyard off the main drag, with these massive wooden beams overhead and plush bedding that made crashing after a day of wandering pure bliss. The air had that subtle, salty tang from the nearby canals, and in the mornings, you’d hear the distant hum of vaporettos chugging along the Grand Canal, just a five-minute stroll away toward Rialto. (Pro tip: Skip the tourist traps on the bridge and head to the fish market side for fresh cicchetti – those little snacks are way better and cheaper.) The rooms are spacious, with kitchenettes that came in handy for brewing espresso from the corner grocery on Calle della Mandola – saved me a fortune on breakfast. Well, almost; the Wi-Fi was a tad spotty during peak hours, probably from all the signals bouncing off those ancient walls, but nothing a quick reset couldn’t fix. And at night, when the day-trippers clear out, it’s surprisingly peaceful – no blaring noise, just the occasional toll of the clock tower bells, which sort of lulls you to sleep like a gentle reminder you’re in Venice, not some generic city.
Look, if you’re plotting a trip to Venice and want to feel immersed without the overwhelm, this spot’s a smart pick. It’s not flawless – the location means dodging crowds to get anywhere, and prices spike in summer – but that’s Venice for you. I left thinking, honestly, it’s the kind of place that makes you linger over a spritz on the piazza, knowing your cozy retreat is steps away. Worth every euro for that authentic slice of la dolce vita.

Anat from Israel – 27 October 2024 (8/10)
Central, clean, big rooms
What could be improved: Separate from the main hotel. May not be suitable for old people. We were ok with that.Anil from United States – 17 October 2024 (7/10)
Closer to the San Marc Sq and water bus/taxi.
What could be improved: Not easy to navigate especially for senior peopleAdrine from Armenia – 23 September 2024 (7/10)
It was a minute away from the Dan Marco square, however very hard to find and locate the hotel, spent almost an hour trying to find it, it was under the name Royal San Marco hotel, while the name on the booking app was Suites Torre Dell’Orologio.
What could be improved: Was not the best value for the price, not even water or free coffee was available at the rooms, no slippers, no bath robes. Has to specifically ask for slippers to get them, while for such a price one would normally expect to find them.Joan from Australia – 18 June 2024 (8/10)
Good location, nice roomy suites, staff were very helpful
What could be improved: The system to get in and out of the room was very confusing as it is a meld of 2 hotels and 2 lift systems, lack of signage did not helpAndrea from United Kingdom – 15 April 2024 (9/10)
This was a lovely spacious room in a great position to explore Venice. Clean sheets and towels every day!
Lovely shower and bathroom.
What could be improved: This suite had a small lovely kitchen area with all the facilities but unfortunately nothing to eat, of prepare food with.
The bed was a little hard for my liking.Donna from United Kingdom – 14 April 2024 (8/10)
Next to St Mark's square so excellent location. Breakfast was good.
What could be improved: It is really difficult to find as you have to go through the Hotel to check in and this is not clear on the instructionsMark from United Kingdom – 28 December 2023 (8/10)
