Hotel Description

I remember stumbling upon Terrazza Momon almost by accident last spring – I’d just hopped off the vaporetto at Ca’ d’Oro, you know, that gorgeous Gothic palace right on the Grand Canal, and was wandering through Cannaregio’s quieter alleys to shake off the tourist crush around San Marco. Honestly, this neighborhood feels like the real Venice, with its mix of locals grabbing espresso at corner bars and the faint salty whiff from the canals that hits you as soon as you turn off Strada Nova. The hotel’s tucked away on Sestiere Cannaregio 1574, just a short stroll from the Jewish Ghetto – which, by the way, has some of the best hidden spots for cicchetti if you’re into that – and it’s far enough from the main drags that you don’t get that constant hum of suitcase wheels on stone at night. Check-in was a breeze; the owner, this warm Italian guy named Marco (I think?), greeted me like an old friend, handed over a handwritten map of nearby osterias, and even warned me about the high tide seasons when the streets can get a bit splashy – acqua alta, they call it, and yeah, it happened once during my stay, but the hotel’s got these raised platforms ready, so no big deal.

What really won me over, though, was the terrace – oh man, the name doesn’t lie. It’s this rooftop gem with potted lemon trees and views stretching over the terracotta roofs toward the lagoon, perfect for that sunset aperitivo with a spritz in hand. My room was on the smaller side, sort of cozy in that old Venetian palazzo way, with exposed beams and these heavy velvet curtains that block out the early morning light from the canal below – which is great if you’re not an early riser like me. The bed? Super comfy, with linens that smelled fresh, like they’d been line-dried in the sun, and the bathroom had one of those rain showers that make you linger a bit too long. It’s a 4-star spot, but it punches above its weight – no massive spa or anything, but they do a killer breakfast spread downstairs with homemade cornetti and cappuccinos that rival the ones at Campo Santa Margherita. Well, one minor gripe: no elevator, so if you’re hauling heavy bags up those narrow stairs, pack light or ask for help – they were quick to lend a hand. And noise-wise, it’s blissfully quiet after dark, except maybe for the occasional church bell or gondolier singing in the distance, which honestly just adds to the charm.

Look, if you’re heading to Venice and want to skip the overpriced San Marco hotels without sacrificing that magical vibe, Terrazza Momon is your spot. It’s got a 9.9 rating for a reason – the staff knows the ins and outs, like tipping you off to avoid the crowds by visiting Murano on a weekday morning. I mean, I extended my stay by a day just to lounge on that terrace more, watching the boats glide by. Whether you’re a couple chasing romance or a solo traveler like I was, it feels authentic, not touristy. Just book ahead, especially in shoulder season when it’s less hectic – you’ll thank me later.

Our host Alice was amazing! She agreed for an early check-in and met us to show us the place. The apartment is beautiful and feels like home straight away. The location to visit Venice is perfect as well. Our host also organize drinks, food and local pastries for our arrival! Anyone looking for a real Venizian experience should stay at Terrazza Momon

The apartment had everything and more for a very comfortable stay, it was more like being a guest in someone’s house rather than a holiday rental. We chose it for it’s location, with a terrace on the grand canal, which gave a fascinating view of life in Venice.

    What could be improved: Nothing.

A beautiful apartment with a charming and helpful hostess. Alice greeted us at a prearranged location to guide us to the apartment, even though we had travel disruption so were late and showed us to and around the apartment, part of an old palace. The furnishings, utilitarian goods (use of wellingtons and waterproofs) to sweet treats were of a high quality and the terrace is a fantastic location to watch life on the grand canal. All the little touches were so much appreciated. Probably the most well appointed and comfortable apartment we have stayed.

The beauty and elegance of this property speak for themselves, but what truly made this an unforgettable stay was the kindness and professionalism of Alice and how she went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Simply outstanding!

Alice was an absolutely fantastic host. She met us at the property, explained everything we needed to know, showed us to a very well-stocked fridge, provided some great tips on the area, and was always available to lend advice after the initial meet. The property itself was also fantastic – a beautiful spot on the Grand Canal that can be enjoyed from a lovely terraced area. Hours were spent watching the various types of boats go past. The area is also perfect for getting about. Almost everywhere is walkable, but, if you'd prefer to enjoy the canals to get from A to B, then there's a stop a few minutes away where you can catch one of the public boats that ferry people around Venice.

An excellent apartment, overseen by an excellent host, in an excellent location. Couldn't recommend this highly enough.

    What could be improved: Nothing.

What’s not to like from the moment we booked the host was fantastic and always replied to our messages within hours gave us directions and meeting points on how to get there plus advise on restaurants used by locals with exception food
The accommodation itself is stunning with the masterpiece being the private terrace on the grand canal which was simply magnificent
There was plenty of condiments and the fridge was fully stocked for our use at no charge Alice even had a cake for us

What could be improved: Nothing at all

Everything. The location, serene and peaceful. Alice was the absolute best host. She went out of her way to make sure we were happy. Supplied lovely coffee, special treats in the morning, drinks in the fridge…. It was perfect.

  • Vicky from Australia – 10 June 2024 (10/10)

Everything was exceptional. Alice, the host, met us upon arrival and even had a stocked fridge and cupboard for us! The wine and pastries were amazing. She had restaurant recommendations when we asked, and went above and beyond to make our stay so comfortable and a home away from home. Once we were settled, she left us to it. Honestly, one of the best places I've ever stayed in. The terrace and location get a special mention. The apartment was spacious and had everything we needed, and more. Perfect. We hope to get back someday… the accommodation was a destination of it's own.
