Hotel Description
Oh man, stepping into Terrazzi su Piazza San Marco for the first time felt like stumbling into one of those hidden Venice gems that locals whisper about – you know, the kind that’s tucked right off the square but somehow dodges the worst of the tourist crush. I arrived via vaporetto from Santa Lucia station, dragging my suitcase over the Ponte di Rialto (pro tip: pack light, those bridges are no joke), and there it was at San Marco 750, just a stone’s throw from the basilica. Honestly, the location is a dream if you’re into that classic Venice vibe – you’re literally steps from Piazza San Marco, where you can hear the Campanile bells chiming every hour, mixing with the chatter of pigeons and espresso machines from nearby cafes like Florian’s. But here’s the thing: it’s not smack in the middle of the chaos. The hotel’s on a quieter side street, so at night, when the day-trippers clear out, you get that eerie, magical silence broken only by the occasional canal lap or a distant gondola serenade. Check-in was a breeze – the staff, this friendly older couple who seemed like they’d been there forever, handed over my key with a quick chat about avoiding the high water in November (acqua alta can flood the square, but they have boots on hand, apparently). It’s a 3-star spot, so don’t expect marble palaces, but the lobby has this cozy, worn-in charm with creaky wooden floors and faded frescoes that make you feel like you’re crashing at a Venetian aunt’s place.
What really sold me, though, were the terraces – I mean, the name “Terrazzi su Piazza San Marco” isn’t kidding. My room opened onto this little balcony overlooking the square, and waking up to the morning light filtering through with that salty canal smell wafting up? Pure bliss. The rooms are on the smaller side, sort of compact like most old Venice buildings (built in the 1500s, they said), with simple but comfy beds – think crisp linens and those heavy wool blankets that keep out the winter chill. No fancy gym or spa, but there’s a decent breakfast spread in the mornings: fresh cornetti, cappuccinos that hit just right, and even some prosciutto if you’re feeling savory. I appreciated the practical touches, like the mini-fridge stocked with affordable prosecco (way better than the overpriced stuff in the square) and the free Wi-Fi that actually worked, even during peak season when everything else in Venice lags. Oh, and noise-wise, it’s mostly fine – you might hear some evening bustle from the piazza, but earplugs sorted that out for me. One minor gripe: the bathroom was a tad dated, with that classic Italian shower that’s more of a trickle, but hey, it adds to the authentic feel, right? I spent afternoons wandering to nearby spots like the Doge’s Palace or hopping a boat to Murano, and coming back felt like returning home – especially in shoulder season, like early spring, when the crowds thin out and you can snag a terrace table without elbowing anyone.
Look, if you’re plotting a Venice trip and want something real, not some glossy chain hotel, Terrazzi is where it’s at. With that 9.3 rating, it’s clear others feel the same – it’s got heart, you know? Sure, it’s not the Ritz, but for the price and that unbeatable view, you’ll leave with stories, not just selfies. I’d go back in a heartbeat, maybe in fall when the fog rolls in and the whole place feels like a dream. Just remember to book ahead; spots like this fill up fast.

Wonderful stay in this apartment. If you have a large family, this is a great place. No need to rent multiple rooms. – John from United States – 11 July 2025 (10/10)
Very large property with many rooms. Wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy the rental more. Great location. Natia was very helpful, available and frequently checked on our stay.
What could be improved: No complaintsWe absolutely loved our stay and would stay here again in a heart beat! – Shannon from United States – 8 June 2025 (10/10)
I absolutely loved the terraces. I also didn’t realize the apartment is on two levels. Two bedrooms are downstairs and one is upstairs with the balconies. This made me love it even more as there was a little bit of separation from our group for more added privacy. The pictures match the place. Natia was absolutely amazing and on top of everything. She was wonderful and nice, checking in through out to ensure we were happy and comfortable.
What could be improved: Nothing, loved it all! Had everything we needed.Lovely Visit in Venice – Jean from United States – 27 May 2025 (10/10)
This apartment is exceptionally beautiful! It's well equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay and is situated in the most convenient location. Two terraces and the lovely art work are an additional delight. You couldn't ask for a better host than Natia. She is at your disposal at any time. She is friendly and very accommodating. Natia met us at the dock when we arrived and escorted us through the winding streets pulling luggage as well. We truly enjoyed our visit and highly recommend this apartment. Our thanks to Natia for her gracious hospitality.
Veramente gradevole! – Gabriele from Italy – 7 May 2025 (10/10)
– Alice from Brazil – 16 May 2025 (8/10)
Superb – Monica from United States – 24 April 2025 (9/10)
